I'm with Scott... 'True Leader' what does that mean? 'Servant Leader' - absolutely the right approach. But as soon as you moved past the Scrum Guide, into real life, this got really insightful. Your best conversation so far. Thank you.
Love this!!! I just came across this video, and I’m glad I did. I’m seeking a career transition, and again I’m reminded how much scrum overlaps considerably with my recent background as a school psychologist.
Wonderful Leasha Trimble! Yes, there is a lot of science and psychology in agile and scrum...We are dealing with people to deliver products and services. We like to compare it to Kindergarten class: Open space, psychologically safe, team work, and more. Very nice! Please let us know how we can serve you in your transition with transferrable skills.
I am a teacher, and I can't stop thinking about all the unhappy, underpaid teachers I know with the soft skills that would make phenomenal scrum masters.
@@queenmajesty895 Unfortunately, I've been trying since August. I'm being told you now have to have a computer science degree and prior experience. Not just any experience but direct, exact experience as a scrum master in the same field (e.g., fintech to fintech). There are people selling coaching and bootcamps specifically to teachers, yet employers do not seem to be hiring for transferrable experience. There are a few pockets of places doing most of the hiring in the U.S., but for the most part it's pretty impossible to transition to at this point.
Greetings Chirayu! Can a Project Manager (PM) be a Scrum Master (SM) at the same time. Yes you can...but should you? There are many job posting looking for a PM / SM combination. Point # 1. From my view, each position pays about $100K USD each position. 💰 However, for those who are doing this are not making $200K USD. Double work for Single compensation. 🤔 Heck of a deal for the company! Point #2, the approach to getting work done is Different between a PM and SM. PM typically use "command and control - telling" whereas a SM using stances like teaching, coaching, & facilitating - Servant Leadership. Can someone wear those 2 opposite hats and be effective? A question for the individual to decide. To help with that - Use the Scrum Values. Example, [Respect] Am I able to do [Respect] all 12 accountabilities of a SM and all the responsibilities of a PM which is not identified in the Scrum Guide at the same time? If not, have the [Courage] to speak up identifying your concerns...BEYOND the budget. The answer to this will help you decide what's best for you and your context. I hope this helps. GSM Scott
Finally its said..” not a PM and PM not an SM” 🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
