Just had one do this on Volvo V40 D2 Cross Country, when pulling out of a car park. I think what happens is the windows are now glued to the panels, but the panels slightly flex, going over bumps etc, glass does not flex this is causing stress fracture. Perhaps they should set the glass into window rubbers like they use to years ago, i don't think glass sitting on outside of panel is a good idea. It's all done for speed and profit in the car factories when they are fitted by robots. ( it's only a thought )
Our rear window on 2017 Ford Transit campervan spontaneously exploded yesterday while I was laying down (it about gave me a heart attack). Luckily we have custom magnetic window blinds because my face was about a foot from the window. Ford has been incredibly irresponsible about covering the replacement of the defective window, even though we provided pictures and a video shortly after it exploded with the sound of the glass continuing to crack.
