  • The ancient Persian sword Shamshir of the Saber family of curved blades, Shamshir rode with the hooves of Persian horsemen to spread terror on all fronts. Originally, the Persian sword still had a straight, hard design and two sharp blades. However, over time, Persian swordsmithing introduced the Scimitar curved blade from Central Asia and created the distinctive Persian Shamshir.

      This sword was made in the Syrian city of Damascus. This type of weapon became widespread during the Crusades in the era of Saladin because this type of sword was used and was considered one of the strongest types of swords in ancient wars.

    Interested in the details of the lost-wax mould creation. You didn't have any vents and it appears that the brass sputtered when you poured it indicating that there was still wax inside the mould... Did you bake out the wax and pre-heat the mould? Could you please explain how you did the mould without any voids?

    • @Arts-and-Crafts
      @Arts-and-Crafts  10 місяців тому

      Thank you for your feedback, the wax I used is the type that has quite a lot of impurities left behind, and it created a fire when pouring bronze, and it could also be due to the poor quality of the plaster, but anyway, the product comes out. also quite good !

      If you are a professional blacksmith, I have nothing to say, but if you are a beginner, what I want to say is that you should pay attention to the heat treatment that corresponds to the type of steel you make, otherwise it will deform after being processed. annealing !

      @@Arts-and-CraftsShamshir is a Persian saber, characterized primarily by a narrow blade of strong curvature. Most shamshirs have blades about 80 cm long (if measured in a straight line from the hilt to the tip, without taking into account the bending radius), about 3 cm wide and about 5 mm thick along the butt (at the guard). And the weight varies from 600 to 1000 g. The lightest shamshir, which I managed to find information about, weighed only 490 g. This is together with the handle.
