PR and DR cuisine are very similar, and this dish mofongo is made in both island nations. beans (habichuelas) is a term used in DR and PR only. other Latinos call it frijoles.

Is similar but not the same Dominican took this recipe from PR in the 60 when they started immigrating the island this recipe is original from Puerto Rico not DR

The original name to this recipe is

Hey actually for us dominicans is mofongo as well since the preparation from mangu differs, mangu is mashed plantains previously boiled in water while mofongo is mashed plantains in a pilon previously fried while you can add meat, garlic, oil etc to mofongo, mangu is good with butter and oil and can also be made with ripe plantains which is sweeter and softer

    • @dmvme
      @dmvme 5 місяців тому +1

@@Firebird.1991It’s not, mofongo is originally from Puerto Rico. I don’t know where the misconception is coming from or if this is on purpose, but mofongo originated in Puerto Rico as mangu originated in Dominican Republic. You can easily find this information online or books.

In the northern Caribbean Coast of Colombia we have a similar dish to mofongo but instead of frying the plantains they are boiled. We mash the plantains, gently fry some chopped garlic and onion, add some chicharrón, mix all the ingredients together, make balls with all that mix and we call it, get ready for the funny name, cabeza de gato (cat's head) or cayeye. This recipe is made in Córdoba and Sucre, northern Caribbean Colombian coast.

I add salt to my garlic and oil, and while mashing, I add cilantrillo, (cilantro) and very crunchy chicharron. Love it with ox tail!😁👍👋😊

MARZO ... MES DE NUESTRA RICA HERENCIA AFRICANA🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🥳

If you want to learn more you should go Puerto Rico. The birth place of Mofongo.

I just ordered mofongo with pork from a restaurant near me to try it and it was one of the biggest letdowns. It was basically like eating a clove of garlic, they put SO MUCH garlic paste that it overpowered everything but I could still taste a bit of the plantain mix and it's incredibly bland, absolutely nothing about it tasted good it was so bad I feel like I'm gonna have nightmares about it.
There's no way that's the same mofongo people eat regularly cuz that was beyond gross. I wanna sue that restaurant 😩

They're also called pork belly. However, if you buy them RAW, you'll have to season and fry them first.
