I prefer this scene in this than the remake. I like the remake but the emotion is just complete here. And momiji here just makes it even more emotional.
Yess!!! Beside the emotion.. There's one other thing that is so important which is all the soundtracks.. Fruits basket will never be the same anymore without all of the old soundtracks of fruits basket.. Especially the title song : For fruits basket, serenade, it makes me want to cry.. ;(
Hatori story is so sad. It killed me hearing Tohru cry about Hatori and how he deserved kindness. That’s Tohru role in the show to help the Sohma family heal and to help characters like Hatori to find happiness in their lives.

Even as someone who watched and fell in love with the remake first the flashbacks of them together are very lacking compared to the original. Their cute little domestic moments, like him putting his jacket around her and her surprising him with a gift, make much more sense to show considering how they knew each other and fell in love. The scenes at the beach and of them walking through the cherry blossoms in the 2019 version are pretty, but they provide absolutely zero insight on their actual relationship and interactions. That’s not to mention Hatori actually looks happy with her here, while in the remake he still looks stone cold in the flashbacks of them. I can’t say the poor animation quality isn’t... distracting here though.
The music really gets me in this one. I know people, including me, prefer the remake because it is more accurate, but 01 is certainly valid for the emotion and pacing in certain episodes as well as the music

In the remake version's scene, i know that maybe they want Hatori to look like he's suffering in the inside and not show it out so much, but the emotion effect in the old version is getting me to the edge. He cried for their story, and i cried for him, a lot. :'( And the music of the old version is omg, it's so painful. Especially this scene :)
Akito is important to the whole zodiac that is why they cant disobey him and the zodiac members has a soft side for him/her(akito was revealed as a girl in the manga and shigure is her lover) bcoz her role in the zodiac is she is God.

I really don’t get why Hatori didn’t blame Akito for hurting him. But honestly by the time he asked Akito for the blessing to marry Kana Akito was completely crazy. I guess that’s why Hatori never blamed Akito because it was pointless to blame a crazy person.

Honestly, so came to rewatch this to compare to new version and I get people’s comments here. I do miss this old art style and this is still a great scene, however, the 2019 version is better. The pacing of the scene was handled better IMO, plus I like that it actually transitioned locations and didn’t just stay in the house. I just think people, and rightfully so, are falling a bit into the nostalgia trap. I will say however, the one thing this scene has is that god damn opening song and it uses it twice in this scene both perfectly, that’s what gave me the feels. I wish the new fruits basket would’ve found a way to keep that in the soundtrack. Hoping in the final season they throw it in just as a throwback.
people who grew up with the originals will ALWAYS say they like the original better. despite any remake. I'm watching the remake because it has a better art style and stays more correct to the storyline. I never watched the original.
yea the soundtrack is surprisingly cohesive in the 2001. not to say that the 2019 soundtrack was bad because it's definitely more polished but 2001's opening does have a strong nostalgic quality
@@james-l1t I’ll say this, 2019’s soundtrack stepped it up in season 2, the insert song when Yuki and Tohru are at the beach is literal perfection, and opening 2 of season 2 is honestly the most fitting opening for this entire series. But damn it if the 2001 fruits basket doesn’t just bring me to tears every time I hear it, so simple yet so heartbreaking

I sincerely believe that what happened with the 2001 anime was just a circumstance of the times because the animation company felt like a serious anime would not have been profitable. Even though the 2001 sacrificed the creator's original artistry, on the bright side, it was successful in developing a loyal fanbase for when the 2019 version

yes it was revealed later yes but back then in the anime akito was male as it was not revealed yet so in the first anime akito a guy but manga and 2nd anime akito a chick
