Wish those days were still with us. Beautiful trip down memory lane. Lived in Oulton Broad for 10 years in the 90s, still some unchanged scenery. Also the Wherry pub.
Fabulous 1954 footage, huge gratitude to the family who had the means and foresight to film their holiday and in colour! So wonderful to see the immaculate, character, craftsman built timber Cruisers and Yachts, old cars, marvellous waterside houses and buildings, some now sadly gone. Interesting to be reminded of how people dressed then and how they all seemed to wear hats! Blue skies to boot. I have been many times Summer and Winter and never tire of the scenery. Great film conversion and posting, thank you.
Absolutely loved it , i use to love seeing the old wooden boats , it made it feel more like the broads , & i used to love the smell of the old woodies too, thanks for sharing.
What a breath of fresh air.... even though I wasn't born when this was filmed it airs back to wonderful times... times we shall never see again. I regularly have a broads holiday with my husband usually twice a year and this makes me want to be there now, not in three months time. It is still one of the holidays that still seems timeless in this hectic world we live in. Lesley and Paul Allison
Absolutely I visited Broads in 1995 when working as a young doctor in Great Yarmouth and took few boat trips around the beautiful broads, I then waited for 27 years to go there again with my grown up children an just had been on a more pleasurable holiday floating on Broads, July 22.
A wonderful film, thank you for posting. Being in colour was a real bonus. Thankfully not too much has changed on the rivers since 1954, except the boats, they looked so much better made of wood than today's plastic ones. Del Coleman.
Featured the ex Royal Navy Coastal Forces WW2 Motor Launch (ML) Fairmile B, named Golden Galleon as a Broads pleasure cruiser. Broken up in mid to late 1990's I believe ? The owner wanted to restore her but ran out of funds. Very sad.
Many thanks for showing this footage of the broads. I can remember seeing a coaster passing downstream during darkness through my bunk window when we were moored at the Berney Arms pub sometime around 1974. That was a very earie scene in the silence of the night indeed. We've just returned home after another week of cruising the Northern rivers, it is still a magic place to have a quiet time and to see some wonderful sunsets.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any help you can give me
@Alexander Konnor I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
W#hat is the amazing accompanying cinema music of the era? Where can o0ne find it - the music brings back a many memories as the film. I was 10 when this was made.

Beautiful film . Wish the broads were still like that. At 7.40 there is a large white building. Does anybody know where this is and is it still there?
Horstead Mill, burned down in 1963
In those days there were real boats and great small boat yards, not the plastic bath tubs they hire out today !!!!
Thanks :) Im sure that can be arranged... If you mail me a blank DVD with return postage I can make a copy. PM me your mail address.
