You all probably dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Matteo Omari i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Your tip about checking focus in the field is an important one. I ended up coming home from a shoot to find that the photos, which I manually focused, were very soft. It was very disappointing. I was using an older DSLR that didn't have focus peaking or any fancy features like that, but I should have zoomed in on the live view before taking the shot. Lesson learned. I've use back button focusing for years now. I had initially shied away from it, thinking it wasn't useful or was too complicated. I love it for that fact that I can manually adjust the lens and not have to worry about it trying to focus again when I press the shutter button. It works great for all type of images, in my experience.
Mads for the past 4 years your channel has been a source of inspiration, education, and entertainment, therefore I am absolutely delighted to see you pass this milestone and i truly wish your channel continued success for the future. I enjoyed your discussion today and your images. I utilise BBF the majority of times when using a tripod although I will also use this in combination of using the magnify function to double check my focus.
I think you must be my top-commenter, Jim! I truly appreciate the dedication. Thank you so much for all the support. I can't do this stuff without you :D
When I first started photographing I followed FroKnowsPhoto for the gear reviews, and later Matt Granger for the technical tips in general (also his educating Tina series was really great). Later on when I discovered I liked landscape photography most I switched around to Thomas Heaton and yourself. Lately it seems Thomas is a little depressed and I don't enjoy his videos as I did in the beginning (I really hope he comes around, he seems like a nice fellow and I wish him well). But you Mads, you have been positive and likeable from the get go, I think you only had a 1000 subs when I discovered you and look at you now. You are still the same Mads, enthousiastic but also chill to listen to and a real expert in your field. All this time I have enjoyed watching your every video and I hope to do so for years to come. Thank you Mads for taking us along on your journey and teaching us valuable knowledge! Stay awesome and congrats on the 100k!
Hi Mads, thanks for this video, but … Ihave a problem with my sony a7Riv. I use the flexible spot (L) to determine my plane of focus, but when I press the AF-On button to focus, the flexible spot pops back to the center to focus there. While I want to focus on the place where I placed the rectangle. Any idea why the camera is doing this (suddenly), because I've always worked the same way? Can you help me with this please? Thank you in advance. Regards, Eric
Hi . I like to use the Aperture(Dimming-)-Button. For me its the most precise was to see the DoF . It was an must have in buying the Camera.(Sony a68 ) KR OLIVER
Well presented video, certainly lots of opinions on this topic. Having watched your video from the start to now congratulations on getting 100,000 subscribers. As of this video I see you are well on your way to 200,000 subscribers.
Congrats on the 105K subscribers, but I do have a question not entirely related to focusing. Why suck long exposures of 1/30 and 1/40 in such windy conditions ? I would assume the trees in those windy conditions wouldn't be sharp. Anyhow I'm glad I found your very helpful channel!!
A bit late but super congratulations, Mads, on now well surpassing the 100k mark! Thanks to your easy to understand explanation, I am going to give BBF another try and have just switched my camera settings. Now, where is that photogenic tree???
wow Beautiful photos!!!! I loved them, we are in summer in Uruguay, yet with rains everyday, and lockdown measures. After watching your whole video, I want a Sony Camera lol and you to teach me how to use it :) Excellent video Mads!
Congratulations on 100k! Well deserved, your videos are great. Are you using the Tamron 28-200? What do you think about it compared to the 24-105? I just bought an A7r III and I'm debating between getting the Tamron or the Sony 24-105, mostly because it would allow me to not have to carry a dedicated telephoto lens on most shoots and travel a lot lighter. The 28 vs 24 at the wide end it's what's making me hesitate a little bit but I would be paring it with a wide angle zoom so I reckon it should be alright.
Great 👍. There’s not much more to say. Personally I do not use the shutter release button to focus, anymore. I set that feature to “off”. I only use “back button” focusing. For landscape photography I manually focus using the hyper focal table or focus stacking.
I must admit that I now came into an age where I cannot trust my eyes anymore... which is a pain. So rather putting my glasses on or off (like mad), I did changes my workflow from manual-focusing to auto-focusing... I forgot my glasses once in my car ... but that is a different story. :-)
One question Mads. When you are using BBF, is it correct that once you engage BBF, the one parameter you cannot change is the camera to subject distance? You can pretty much change everything else? Including mm length on the lens? It might be helpful to have a dedicated session on BBF cans and can't; and under what landscape conditions it might be the best focusing option, given that you said it may slow you up? Again, really useful and enjoyable series Mads. You deserve congrats !
Hi Mads. I have recommended your channel and products to a number of friends. I would suggest that to help grow your channel you should put out a request to your followers (in your episodes - every now and then) a request to recommend you to a friend. Your subscribers won't mind and it may help. We are after all recommending quality.
When focusing manually, there is usually an indication within the viewfinder that your target is focused, so .... even those who don't trust their eye-sight to focus can use manual focusing. Focusing manually saves battery power, which could be vital for a landscape photographer.
I say whatever is most comfortable for the photographer. For me personally, if it's just for photos, most new cameras in this day in age have amazing auto focus, so I go with that. But that's just me.
Congratz Mads !!! As Nigel says below, many more to come to you !! Try to link also 2 videos that you have made (not so long ago) regarding focusing and how to get sharp images (two videos you shoot in an area with trees!!)... Nevertheless a nice vid also!!! I have copied your method and I'm focusing the same way !!!
Is there a short hand way to estimate how much depth of field you will get at a given f/stop and a given distance from subject? I am completely used to back button and I don't understand why, once you are used to back button, you would occasionally still want to focus with the shutter button.
Et stort tillykke med de 100000 Mads, det er så velfortjent for du laver nogle fantastisk gode video nok en af de bedst inden for landskabs foto efter min mening.
Thank you Mads for all those VDOs you are posting. They are very clear, practical, and inspirational. I am learning a lot from you and look forward to joining one of your workshops one day
Would you say the LARGE flexible spot is more accurate than the SMALL size? Or merely needed for different purposes? I usually have it on small, to pinpoint where I want focus. 🤔
I must admit, I was surprised you tend to use auto focus.... I would have thought you to be a manual focus person first! Just goes to show you that we should not assume anything!! Another awesome video Mads!!!
Wow! Congratulations, MADS. It’s been an enlightening journey for me by subscribing to your channel. I am so happy to see that you are increasing the size of your audience. It is a testimony to the quality of work that you produce and of course, your personality. And, a big thanks to Sophie for her modeling scenes!
Congratulations on hitting the 100k mark. I not only love the technical aspects of your channel but also the travel, both outside and in Denmark. Your enthusiasm is also always great to watch...helps rekindle the love of photography when my own photography isn't going well. Finally lyour two ebooks are fantastic and everyone should own a copy of both.
Congrats on the 100k subscribers, well done :D I've used BBF for gig photography, but not landscapes. I'll try it out when i'm able to get out of lockdown here in the UK.
Lenses designed for film cameras have engraved on the barrel the distance at which the lens is focused from the closest the lens will focus to infinity. The aperture numbers are also engraved there going in both directions. If you focus the lens by eye at say f8, the distance symbol for infinity will be to the right of the f8 symbol. This means at f8 the lens is focused past infinity. What you then do is move the lens focus so the infinity point is set to the f8 and then all the distances between the two f8 symbols will be in focus. Smaller apertures are best for doing this technique. I have been using this technique for 40 years.
Hey Mads.
Congratulations Mads with the 100 k Subscriptions !!! You deserve many more !!!! You keep me focused ;) Personally I use manual focus for 90% for my landscapes on tripod and back button when I shoot wildlife (not as often) or handhold landscape. Thank you for all the useful tips, education in your videos, e-books and courses ...... hope there is many more to come in the future.
I use Backbutton Focus a lot. On the Canon which I previously used, I even used it a lot when shooting handhold, just keeping the backbutton pressed. What I like about it, is that when I hit the shutterbutton the camera just takes the shot. No more change to the focus. I can change other settings if I want to retake the shot, and my focus stays as it was. Now with the Fuji I currently use most, I can easier switch between shutter-focus and backbutton focus: In AF-C mode I have shutter-focus. I can use this for tracking, or when shooting handheld. In AF-S I use the AF-ON button to focus and then perhaps some manual focus adjustments. Another good thing about the Fuji camera is, that when using Manual Focus mode the AF-ON button still works! So I get the best of back-button focusing and MF combined.
100,000 subscribers 🤩, fantastic Mads. Congratulations 🥳. Having recently moved up to the EOS R5 with it’s multiple focus options plus the ability to eye focus for people or animals I have two back buttons setup to choose from. One of the landscape and the other for people/animals. And of course the manual option is always right there if required. Thanks for sharing again Mads. Stay safe.
Touchscreen dual pixel auto focus in live view (its excellent). Manual focus if there's too little contrast. BBF through the view finder. Sorted! And completely agree about focus peeking, not altogether reliable.
I have neither the eyesight nor the manual dexterity (Parkinson's) to manually focus, but I'll try to find focus peaking somewhere in the 500-page manual. Back-button focus is indispensable because it's hard to hold the shutter button exactly half-way. I love the isolated tree photos, minimalist, maybe even existentialist or something. Gives me ideas to try on my own.
4 years ... Man that is a long time now! I remember .... I have found your channel when came back from my first trip to the Faroes back in May 2018.... I was so angry to find your videos only then... I think you were just at ep. 1 or 2 then .... However still your videos were somehow encouraging for my second d trip to the Faroes. While the first one ended by a totally unexpected and unwanted landing in Stavanger in Norway (too strong winds to land in Vagar) the second one started almost in the same way ... only the 3rd attempt of landing was a good one .... However in the meantime, it became sooo popular that we had almost a feeling of being charged for breathing ... Never returned since then. Now with the Covid-19 nu=ot sure of or whether it will be possible again but it is always a pleasure to keep viewing your travels and videos :) Keep up Mads :)
Thank you very much for sticking around, Maciej! I really appreciate it. Yes, the Faroes is expensive, and charging for hikes is something I very much disagree with. They are still a young nation in regard to tourism so they'll need to figure all this stuff out :)
Mads video's of the Faroe Islands also inspired me to travel there in 2019, I was planning on returning in 2020 but the nasty Covid-19 threw the world into a mess. I too subscribed when Mad's was in his infancy on UA-cam. He also inspired my Iceland trips each year from 2017-2019. He should be getting a commission from the tourist bureau of these countries.
Mads really well deserved 100k. Its not a race but I'm sure you'll be catching up with Nigel and Tom soon! Another great video...my son has just started 'serious' photography so another subscriber in the bag!
Thank you so much, Clive! I really appreciate the trust, but both Nigel and Tom grows faster than me - I just can't seem to make a video, which goes viral, but on the other hand, I am not sure I want to have such an influx of subs, as I prefer quality subs to quantity :)
Great video as always Mads... I think your technique for manual focus is not absolutely the optimum one. Before focusing manually, it is better to set the aperture to wide open. In this case it is much easier to judge where the focus actually is, with high precision. I believe that is how people used to focus in old days when autofocus didn't excited. (PS: There is a small shift in the focusing plane for different apertures but for landscape photography this is usually irrelevant).
Congratulations. You really deserve it. Your videos are always well put together and beautifully produced. Your superb photos and positive outlook make it one of the best You Tube channels ever. I thoroughly enjoy every one of your inspirational videos. Thank you very much for taking the time to make them 🙏😊
Hi Mads: I enjoyed this video. I am a BBF shooter but in my case, I usually the depress the joy-stick fully to lock-in focus. Have you tried this before or do you have an opinion on this technique? Regards, Keith
100,000 is a great landmark, your videos are very informative with plenty of practical examples. Thanks Mads. I tend to use manual focusing more than auto as it is a good way for me to understand focusing so I am now quite good at it.
Thank you Mads.... Another gem! I have been using b-b focus for sometime now & employ the camera’s focus lock. I’ve found it the most reliable.. my eyesight isn’t so good anymore, so I also use focus peaking...
Congratulations ! I think it is important to know which focussing techniques there are and then find out which apply in what form for your own camera. I notice DSLRs deviate to some extent from mirrorless camera's in this respect. Personally I have gotten used to the back button focus on my DSLR. I point the camera at the focuslocation and press the button, then choose the composition and shoot. If I require focusstacking, I use manual focussing to have 2-3 images in total. Always check the hyperfocal point so you know when focusstacking is required.
I always set my focus to infinity as am using ultra wide all the time. Manual works perfect for 100% of all images taken using tripod. Handheld I prefer only BB focus
Congratulations, Mads! One of my favourite channels on UA-cam. Your videos are always excellent! As well as your two ebooks. I like them a lot!
Thank you so much, Jörn! :D
You all probably dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..?

@Matteo Omari it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out !
100,000 subs!!! well done Mads and so well deserved. One of the best landscape channels on UA-cam and deserves so many more... Next stop 1M.
Thank you so much, Nigel! By my calculations that'll be 36 years... I guess a pension will be well deserved by that time 🤣
Agreed
Ha. Sorry. I was agreeing to the first comment. I hope not 36 years. I really enjoy and get a lot out of this channel.

Well done video in the harshness of winter. Love minimalism in winter scenes. And back focus manual settings is very helpful.
Cheers from Canada.
The tips you just gave are so generous! thank you for sharing!
So happy to hear that, Victor :)

Congratulations…you earned the 100k with great content and personality 👍🏻
Really enjoyed the video Marc, it makes me feel like I’m out on the shoot with you, it’s a really good vibe.

It might be helpful to have a dedicated session on BBF cans and can't; and under what landscape conditions it might be the best focusing option, given that you said it may slow you up? Again, really useful and enjoyable series Mads. You deserve congrats !

Focusing manually saves battery power, which could be vital for a landscape photographer.
Thanks. One question. Which model of ball head are you using?
Love your videos. Do you have a cheat sheet for landscape settings on the a7iii. Thanks again.

Congrats on the milestone 100k....thanks for this vlog it was awesome.
Lovely movie. Super implementation. Congratulations on the idea. Greetings from Poland and invite you to visit our country🌳
Hello. Thanks for making this video. Can I ask what settings need to be enabled to have the display auto magnify when adjusting manual focus?
Very helpful Video. Could you advise which focus you used when shooting the mode part of this video? When you walked pass the camera?
Congratulations on the 100k subscribers...well deserved Mads!! Keep up the good work! 👌
Thanks for all video you make. Im just start to take landscapefoto. And i Learning a lott to look att your videos.
Here’s a tip when your deciding which one is better: it doesn’t matter use what you want, stop overthinking things that don’t matter
Very useful video as usual on you channel. Congratulations!!!
Keep making these amazing videos. I learn so much.
People love to debate over the silliest things. I vote BBF handheld, manual on a tripod, move on with life.
Oh , that crunchy snow sound...great video.
Congrats on the 100k subscribers, Mads! Great work, really well done. 👊🏻
Congratulations on your 100k followers all the best
at least with Manual Focus - you can really play with your shots and your brain will function -
Is there a video of his explaining the settings of how the screen outlined the focus areas? I just realized he has an A7Riii
Hey mads congrats on 100k subs, is that the 70-300 mm tamron?
Great video and some really cool shots there Mads.
Good tree photo, but for me it looks exactly like a situation I do not need BBF at all!
Do very nice snow thanks for this tips
Et stort tillykke med de 100000 Mads, det er så velfortjent for du laver nogle fantastisk gode video nok en af de bedst inden for landskabs foto efter min mening.

Congrats on the 100k milestone!
Thank you Mads for all those VDOs you are posting. They are very clear, practical, and inspirational. I am learning a lot from you and look forward to joining one of your workshops one day
I am happy to hear that, Julie! :)
Thank you so much please go on lesson like this!
Would you say the LARGE flexible spot is more accurate than the SMALL size? Or merely needed for different purposes? I usually have it on small, to pinpoint where I want focus. 🤔
I used to use M, now I use L, it seems to be same-same, but I completely agree that the S setting ought to be more precise :)
Congratulations Mads on 100,000 subscribers. It's very well deserved after all the hard work you put in, helping people like me 👍
Thank you so very much! ☺️
I must admit, I was surprised you tend to use auto focus.... I would have thought you to be a manual focus person first! Just goes to show you that we should not assume anything!! Another awesome video Mads!!!
Hehe, as I said there is not much difference, however, I feel much more certain my photo is in focus using AF :)
Wow! Congratulations, MADS. It’s been an enlightening journey for me by subscribing to your channel. I am so happy to see that you are increasing the size of your audience. It is a testimony to the quality of work that you produce and of course, your personality. And, a big thanks to Sophie for her modeling scenes!
Thank you so much, Linda! I am so happy you find it enlightening! And yes, Sophie is the best :D
Congratz with the 100k!
as usual veeeery informative
Hi Mads, congrats on >100k subscribers! So well deserved!
Thank you so much, Torsten! Really appreciate it 🙏
Are you going to get Sony to send you the A1 to review. Hint, hint, but the problem would be having to return the camera.
Hehe yeah, as it stands I would not say no to getting an A1, but it doesn't really seem to improve much on anything I really need.
Great tips. Love it. Learnd a lot👍
Congratulations on hitting the 100k mark. I not only love the technical aspects of your channel but also the travel, both outside and in Denmark. Thank you so much for the kind words, Peter, I really appreciate it 😊
Congratulations. can i ask what lens you used for this photos 24-105?
Thank you, I used the Tamron 28-200 :)
Congrats on the 100k subscribers, well done :D I've used BBF for gig photography, but not landscapes. I'll try it out when i'm able to get out of lockdown here in the UK.
How to use hyperfocal distance? I still don't quiet understand the math and how to use it.
Smaller apertures are best for doing this technique. I have been using this technique for 40 years.
On behalf of UA-cam, we apologise for not finding you sooner to help you reach that 100K mark! Already learning so much from you
I am very happy to hear that - I guess I need to make more clickbaity titles :P

Sometimes :)
Congrats for your 100K
Congratulations Mads with the 100 k Subscriptions !!! You deserve many more !!!!

Personally I use manual focus for 90% for my landscapes on tripod and back button when I shoot wildlife (not as often) or handhold landscape.

Hi! Is that a Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-f/5.6?
It is indeed :)

Definitely do the BBF and magnify AF. That'll most likely solve your focusing issue :)
@@MadsPeterIversen Thanks
Mads video's of the Faroe Islands also inspired me to travel there in 2019, I was planning on returning in 2020 but the nasty Covid-19
threw the world into a mess.
@@MadsPeterIversen Keep doing what you are doing Mads. And I am sure other subs to your channel will be delighted that they are regarded as quality!
Thank you very much for taking the time to make them 🙏😊
Congratulations Mads! Enjoy watching your channel each week.
Hi Mads: I enjoyed this video. I am a BBF shooter but in my case, I usually the depress the joy-stick fully to lock-in focus. Have you tried this before or do you have an opinion on this technique? Regards, Keith
It doesn't sound like something I've tried. Not sure what the benefit is? :)
Hi Mads: The benefit is that you can control the positioning of the focus point and then lock it in all within one single button. Keith
Useful revision, thank you Mads! Congratulations on achieving 100000 subscribers; long may your videos keep coming!
I always set my focus to infinity as am using ultra wide all the time. Manual works perfect for 100% of all images taken using tripod. Handheld I prefer only BB focus
