These guys are so underrated. In my opinion, they're one of the greatest bands of all time, and Khan's voice is magnificent. I love them! And, my new dream is to see them live one day.
They don't play those songs because no band plays old stuff, exceptions apart. Tommy has a perfect singing technique, he doesn't miss any notes, even the high ones. I prefer the passionate voice of Khan but he couldn't have sing his old songs too. Everyone gets old
Tommy is a great singer no doubt about that. He even has the same range as Khan. The problem is elsewhere. It's not that they don't want to play the old songs its about the song sounding right. Although Tommy can sing the notes Khan did he may not be able to sustain them and/or they just don't sound right, that's why they choose not to play them. Furthermore they stopped playing the old songs ( pre Karma era) right after Khan left. Heck they even played nights of arabia after Khan left with Fabio. So this points towards the fact that they never intended to stop playing them if they had the right guy singing them.
Best or not his voice is the best medicine for my sore ears... I have yet to hear someone who can compare. Also if better is possible, I am content with Roy bringing my daily dose of joy. :D
That line "Like the sun shining down on me" sounds better on this version live with Khan in the forefront and not so much the choir like on the studio version.
I wish they would play more of these older songs. I'm seeing them for the 3rd time this coming weekend and am a bit disappointed by the setlists I keep seeing from this Haven tour. Almost all the "old" songs they keep playing are from mostly Black Halo and Ghost Opera which, while they are still great songs, I'm tired of hearing tbh. I really wish they would cut out Rule the World, Ghost Opera, and even March of Mephisto and replace them with more songs off of Epica, Karma, or The Fourth Legacy. I would really love to hear this song or Elizabeth, Lunar Sanctum, or Nights of Arabia. They have a lot of awesome songs from the early Khan era that, IMO, are always worthy of playing live. I don't understand why they keep playing the same songs every night. If I were any of the members in the band, I would get tired of repeatedly playing the same songs over and over and would want to change it up here and there on the setlist. Oh well, I know they will still kick ass because they always do but I do hope they listen to the fans more and give them some of the classic Kamelot songs in the future.
Iranicus Malk What gets me is how they aren't at least doing any other songs from Epica besides Center of the Universe. Those songs, imo, don't sound as strenuous as the songs from Fourth Legacy and Karma. As for his using a higher register for Seventh Wonder, I read an article where he himself said that he loves working in Kamelot because the band provides a challenge for him in singing at a lower register than what he is normally used to.
+BoUrnNe26 The lack of variety in their setlists is the reason I am hesitant to see Kamelot live again. I personally don't think Tommy would sound good on songs like The Spell, The Inquisitor, A Sailorman's Hymn, Until Kingdom Comes, Moonlight, Descent of the Archangel, Abandoned, etc. I wouldn't like to hear him sing those songs, they have too much of Roy's touch and uniqueness. I didn't like how Tommy sang The Haunting (Somewhere in Time) and Soul Society. It's just not right with him, just like how Roy wouldn't sound right singing some of Tommy's songs. I've seen Kamelot twice: with Roy Khan on The Black Halo Tour in 2006 & with Tommy Karevik on the Silverthorn Tour in 2013. I think I am set with that. Even if they started to play the older songs like the ones from Epica, Karma, and The Fourth Legacy it just wouldn't feel right to me with Tommy. Kamelot with Roy Khan is my favorite band and The Black Halo, Epica, Karma, and The Fourth Legacy are my favorite albums ever. But sadly I might be done with seeing them live. I'll just stick to their live albums, videos, and bootlegs for now.
Richard Rivera I see where you're coming from. Imo, I think Tommy would do Sailorman's Hymn justice. The band surprised the audience in Orlando 3 years ago with Don't You Cry and he was great on that song. For me personally, even if they had to downtune the old songs, I wouldn't mind since it would allow us fans to hear them live instead of the same setlist over and over. I'm jealous you got to see them with Roy. I unfortunately didn't know anything about them when they were at their height with his role as vocalist. I first saw them when they opened for Nightwish in 2012 and was blown away by their stage presence, energy, and music quality. After that show I was hooked. Lol
Shame that Kamelot with Roy Khan only did 3 full U.S. tours on The Black Halo & Ghost Opera tours, and a few shows before that at ProgPower II & V and some random small shows in Florida. There was only a narrow window of time for most U.S. fans to get a chance to see Khan live. I really expect Kamelot's future setlists to consist more and more of songs from Silverthorn, Haven, and future albums, and they keep playing the same of the old songs (March of Mephisto, Center of the Universe, Karma, etc).
I believe he could, if given the chance. Getting a new vocalist was a perfect opportunity to bring back the older songs Khan couldn't sing anymore, yet they are still playing the same songs even downtuned. Feels like wasted potential seeing what Tommy is capable of in Seventh Wonder.
@andre5sousa:... Not really... Cooper's good, but his voice isn't really all that unique, and he's occasionally off-key even in recordings, nevermind live.
2024 who ? Let's not let this classic die
Probably one of the best male voices out there ... ?
One of the best songs of kamelot.
Also... Roy khan is back with Conception rocking !!!
These guys are so underrated. In my opinion, they're one of the greatest bands of all time, and Khan's voice is magnificent. I love them!
And, my new dream is to see them live one day.
This aged well! Saw them last year with the newer singer of course and they were phenomenal live.
Roy at his best. Great song and it even greater live!
Tommy can't even touch it.. Listen to Conception records, and Roy was only about 20 years old..
Karina Zaripova eh Tommy can definitely touch it. Of course he doesn't particularly sound like Khan but he can easily hit every note Khan can my dude
Joe Seibert so where is his live version of this song? I think thet don't play old songs for reason.
Of course Tommy can sing but not like young Khan
They don't play those songs because no band plays old stuff, exceptions apart. Tommy has a perfect singing technique, he doesn't miss any notes, even the high ones. I prefer the passionate voice of Khan but he couldn't have sing his old songs too. Everyone gets old

He is back(L)
Khan live better than studio on this one !!
Legendary and Epic !
Best or not his voice is the best medicine for my sore ears...
I have yet to hear someone who can compare.

I couldn't stop listening to this song when I first bought this CD. My favorite Kamelot song! Khan's voice is spectacular.
"How you guys feeling out there tonight? Let's get ready to ROCK!". Epic showmanship.
This song is...Like the sun shining down on me :)
La verdad se extraña mucho a Roy khan 😢 Tom es increíble pero Roy era un Dios 😊
Great Song, one of my favourite Kamelot Songs
Perfect! Better than studio version!
OMG I love his voice!!! >w
Hadn´t actualy heard this one before, being not that keen on early, pre-Karma material, but 'tis nevertheless great!
Agreed, that part alone totally makes this version way better than the studio version.
Genial ! ...
What a beauty
Get better Roy! I was really hoping to see you this wednesday.
I love this album, Kamelot is so energizing. + 100 internets
miss him so much
@Assassin1102 Thats right ! Absolitely amazing song ! Thumbs up !!!
AMAZING...HEAVY METAL RULE...
I have this CD, and shocked that they had Gunter Werno from Vanden Plas with them on this.
🤘🤘
one word: awesome!!
27 march 2010 - Paradiso Amsterdam!!!
I can't wait!!! \m/ :D
3:20 EPICNESS T_T

pls someone upload the expedition song live..-_-

+Iranicus Malk have you heard how Tommy sings in seventh wonder? he could sing old kamelot he has the high notes

@celticdante Intro by Hans Zimmer (09.10sec - 10:04sec of "Rocket Away" from the movie soundtrack 'The Rock' )
@Gravebane910 Roy Khan is beyond anything else! xD \m/
Thomas looks like a runway model in that goofy picture at :52
@dimelives1 Really the Rock?
Do you know what that intro is called? Been looking for it everywhere but no go!!!
I believe he could, if given the chance. Getting a new vocalist was a perfect opportunity to bring back the older songs Khan couldn't sing anymore, yet they are still playing the same songs even downtuned. Feels like wasted potential seeing what Tommy is capable of in Seventh Wonder.
@Gravebane910 You are so right !
Nesta época o guitarrista era Magnus Karlsson?
The guitarrist is Thomas Youngblood. He is the founder member of Kamelot.
@meriemkhantatat and you are not the only one :(
What' s the name of the intro?
They detune to save Tommys voice - same thing they did for Khan.
@andre5sousa:... Not really... Cooper's good, but his voice isn't really all that unique, and he's occasionally off-key even in recordings, nevermind live.
... this sounds like fabio
