Came up in the feed again! I can not stop, I continue to watch it flip! Hope all is well for you two. Think I just completed the 500th flight with the silver P-38. Starting to look a little beat up. No crashes, just hangar, Sierra and wall rash. I think it’s time to order the Euro Green.
I’ve had Two stall this same way but was too close to the ground to recover. This model tip stalls this way VERY EASY in BASE to Final turn. I’ve learned to throttle through this turn. AIR SPEED IS ESSENTIAL when on Approach.
@@willnate35 I’ve got to create a rule that after the build, if you don’t fly the plane or EDF in less than month you have to donate it or put it up for sale. (I say that with the 80mm a-10 and the Me-262 built and sitting in the basement now for 3 months...) The P-38 was about as easy to fly as the twin otter for predictability, and handling. I was in AS3X the whole time jumping back and forth from 100% 0% expo and 90% 30%. What the P-38 after 3 flights doesn’t seem to like is sharp turns. If you keep your turns to wider, more sweeping it’s happier. Plus it looks more scale. All the gasser’s at the field came out of their pit area to see it fly. (Or maybe to see me crash) The P-38 does have a presence about it. Thinking about buying the European Green P-38 now, I enjoyed the Pacific Silver that much. Oh, also surprised how well the split flaps worked. I went full flaps on the 1st landing and it slowed down to a crawl!
@@jeffhenderson934 I'm so happy for you that everything went well. The rules are a little harsh but would definitely motivate me. Keep it up my brothah and keep me posted on the A-10 and ME-262.
Ive now owned the Flightline P-38 Pacific Silver for 18 months. Bought and installed the landing gear upgrade, purchased an extra fuse, backup props, spinners and all things plastic on the plane. But I still haven’t taken the P-38 out of the basement. Every time I come close I think and then watch the video. I hope you guys are happy! (LOL!) Jeff Jeff Jeff, I know how you feel. I've got my HK B-109 that I've had a while that I still haven't flown. I feel your pain my brothah. At some point you'll just say F it and you'll fly that thing. Whenever that is just remember to stay on the power on your turns. Take care my friend. Rick
Hadn’t seen anything new from you two in a while. Just checking in. Hope all is well. Thanks again for all the informative and funny videos like this one. I think I’ve got over 100 flights on the P-38 now, still haven’t duplicated that final approach loop you did.
Hi Jeff! Yeah we've been busy so hadn't had a lot of time to fly. We keep talking about going out but it seems to never happen. Another problem is the field we fly at is overgrown so nothing is going our way. Hopefully soon. Take care my friend.

Had a cub do the exact same thing. Over the top tip stall. I was used to flying it with a 46 on it which at idle it was just a pussy cat. I put a 4 stroke on it and at idle the prop was a big air brake. Slowed way down when I wasn't expecting it went to turn one way, picked that wingtip up and it stalled, oops.
Looks like a classic stall from getting too slow. Mine did the same thing...This bird has a high wing load so she can bite if you're not careful. Nice recovery!
i could not get CG with 2 3000's all the way forward it was about 10mm off but i got good CG with 4000 second holes from the nose why is the rec CG always 10mm off? lol i have found this to be a common problem.
Good shooting guys. No dot in the sky and you kept model in frame, so well done! The old adage of 'safety in height' saved model. Did you recover by letting go of the sticks and is it possible the model was further away than you thought? No harm in holding a 'post mortem' & is great if you and other flyers can learn from mistakes. The days of cheap foam models is over and nobody likes crashing.
Don't know what my brother did to recover but whatever it was it worked, thank goodness. I need to ask him. Appreciate the compliment on the camera work. Honestly I had no idea if I caught it and I just lucked out. Have a great day my friend.
I'm going to say tip stall initiated by the induced drag of the gear coming down. I lost 2 planes this year due to similar circumstances. Moral of the story: if it weighs more than a couple pounds and has a wing loading higher than say 50gm/dm2, keeping the power up thru the crosswind and final approach legs of a landing is critical. Also, a gyro can give you a false sense of security...
Hard to say but probably a stall, It definitely dropped a wing. Nevertheless, a trip home for a fresh pair of underwear. Nice recovery and overall nice flying by your brother.
sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Dash Marcellus I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I got into the sport 4 years ago. After the 3 typical months flying a pushprop with no ailerons at a soccer field, I had that “I got this $hit.” moment, and bought an Apprentice. (Logical next step) My 1st day at a RC Field this 13 year kid starts taxing his Flightline P-38 out to the runway. I had to see this! It was like going to a NASCAR event waiting for a crash. Instead, I saw some of the most beautiful scale flying I’ve ever seen. Other people at the field stopped what they were doing and watched this kid and the prettiest foam Warbird I had seen go thru it’s maneuvers. I said to myself, “One day I’ll be good enough to fly a 1600mm P-38. Not as good as this kid, but good enough to fly and not crash...” I was thinking 4 months, turned out 4 years to get a Flightline P-38. Built it last weekend. But your video still haunts me. In my 4 years I’ve had just about everything that could go wrong while flying, go wrong. All 25 planes I own now have the Admiral or Lemon Rx receivers in them, if only for the panic switch. I’d love to know what caused your P-38 to fall like that. Didn’t look like the 100’s of Tip-Stalls I’ve have.
We run LemonRX on the majority of our planes too. Love those things. In this case we believe it really was a tip stall. My brother can't remember how he was able to recover but in any case he was very lucky. These big birds are always going to be stressful to fly because of their cost but as long as you keep the power on, especially on turns you'll be fine. BTW, don't force yourself to fly a plane until you're mentally ready. Dust won't kill them. LOL Believe me, I've got a few planes, won't say how many, that's a few years old and have not seen any action. Great story on the kid. We all wish we had that opportunity. Take care my friend and have an awesome day. Rick
Thanks for the info Rick. Your brother’s recovery was probably the best I’ve ever seen. The way I see it, I’ve got 3 months because it’s too cold and wet to maiden. Then i got a couple months to make up excuses why I can’t fly it. (I’ll still take it out to the field to look cool) I’ve already bought replacement landing gear, 2 props, 2 spinners, an extra circuit module, and I bought an “open box” main wing. By the time I get the guts to fly it I’ll have purchased the 2 booms and the canopy. (I enjoy the builds and repairs as much as flying. My flying skills have improved over the years. I’m now getting “Get Well Soon” cards from MotionRC, Horizon Hobby, Hobby King’s Spare Parts Department, Bob Smith’s Adhesives, and a gentleman from China that keeps emailing me, “Why you no order parts? You sick?” The 14 told me, “If you can’t afford to crash it, you can’t afford to fly it.” And I wondered after seeing pictures of his hangar and doing the math, (approximately $10,000 worth of planes) what job does this kid have??? If my dad bought me a plane i could fly less stressed out. Last quote I’ll pass on from the kid- I asked him back in my Apprentice days, new to the Spektrum receiver, what I should set my DR and The Expo at? He said he flew at 100%, 0% expo. “Expo is for Fags.” (I wrote that down so I wouldn’t forget)
