Somewhat overlooked is how Alex Knight kept UCLA in system all night long. The sacrifice that he made to move to libero for the sake of the team shouldn’t be underestimated.
Big respect to Alex Knight for taking on libero role and we got USA national future setter Andrew Rowan is the guy who can take on USA national team setter spot after Christenson, and also very excited to see Ethan Champlin debut in vnl this year
To be honest there are a lot of really strong setter picks. Within his own age range it'll be between him and Tread Rosenthal from Hawaii, Hawaii didn't have a great season this year with Chakas going down but we have a lot of depth coming in so if not next year, with 100% certainty the year after we will be resurfacing in the NCAA tournament. LBSU has to do a lot of restructuring (middle, setter, oppo, libero) so I think we've got a pretty good shot next year. And then you have the current benched setters for the US national team in Josh Tuaniga, Micah Ma'a and I know Quinn Isaacson sometimes sets for the Pan America, as Rowan is now he is quite far from Ma'a and Tuaniga (tbf he's what like 20 and they're 27), Joe Worsley is really good as well he just doesn't play for the national team (probably a height thing I dunno). If he was to take over as starting setter for Team USA it wouldn't be for another like 10 years because Christensen shows no signs of slowing down, Bruno is 37 and still setting for Brazil! and Tuaniga and Ma'a are still in there prime. Ma'a actually played for UCLA as well!
@@ruth289 I think youre spot on yea. I was gonna say it will be a long time before one of these young kids have a chance at national team setter spot, but if they stay healthy they got like 15 years in them, so it's possible depending on how good they get. I always wondered why Joe isnt in talks for getting on the national team, but I also understand why they don't 'need' him with Micah, Micah and Josh, theyd prolly wanna go for someone younger
@@ruth289 Andrew and Tread would definitely take priority over anyone else excluding James Shaw and Nic Slight if hes even ever in contention. Josh, Quin, and Ma'a are good but they are not real comp for Andrew in even the next 4 years unless Andrew doesn't progress athletically.
@@sald00mvaughn57 I would argue differently we will have to wait and see I think Ma'a is an exceptional setter but to judge him now against Rowan is completely unfair, I would also like to say that LBSU recently signed Simeon Nikolov a 17 year old from Bulgaria (Alex Nikolovs brother) and dude is a beast, he is playing well above his years and in my opinion beats both Tread and Rowan as of right now
Lets be honest, UCLA showed up to play. LBSU looked nervous at best. The depth of UCLA and their sheer confidence carried the whole match. Officials were good and the atmosphere was all in LBSUs favor and they fumbled. Great players on both sides but only great teams will win..
Long beach is playing with less confidence compared to the semifinals they played with tons of confidence and other the other hand all UCLA players showed up in this match even their passing game was better compared to the semifinals
I always knew UCLA would win this game from the start. The LBSU win over UCLA from the season is when UCLA is still figuring out their lineup but still UCLA win the second game.
UCLA both middle showed up both defensive and offensive, both outside hitters Ethan and Cooper doing a great job, Ido struggled in tue beginning but he’s getting better as match go on and the setter is superb as well as both libero 🎉
Good no challenge for Coach Knipe on the back row block call at 1:16:41 Personally think Aidan still had a portion of his head above the net at the time of contact with the ball, but it looked too close to overturn. Only might have had a chance on the net touch but ball touched Aidan before the net touch happened.
What a match. This could be another national team from other countries. I hope US can have its professional league so as not to waste these talented players.
did the scorekeeprs get the point wrong at 17-17 in the first set? UCLA looks like they should've gotten the point but scorekeeprs gave it to long beach and indicated it was their serve
at 16:18 what did the commentator mean by "if any fraction of the ball is in the plane... it's completely illegal"? I may have misheard, but is he claiming that the ball has to be completely on UCLA's side of the net for them to hit it? That's just incorrect right?
oh my god!!! what is the f**king wrong with those two commentators?????? Do they hate UCLA?? Last year they were totally on Hawaii' side, this year they kiss CSLB's ass?? what is their f**king problems!!! I went to UCLA but I feel sorry for CSLB's loss. I think the setter needs more practice. If he gave more balls to No.11, UCLA may not win that easily. I bought the tickets for all game but something happened to my family, so I have to head to hometown ( Maine), really sad I missed the amazing game. No matter who won, all players are the real heroes!!!!

Ethan Champlin is HIM!
I love watching Long Beach lose 😊
😭😭
Wow set 2 Ido David going on a service run and that serve is a rocket ❤
Ig #8 is from Long Beach is coach fav lol like the announcers said he’s the one struggling offensively but idk why the coach sub out the other guy
I feel like GCU would haven given UCLA a better fight if they have beaten LBSU.
that is what i thought
39:05, no really, the libero hitting 0? who woulda guessed lol (ik it was a mistake its still funny to me)
Well Briggs did get a kill against GCU 😂 he dug a ball and GCU let it fall on their side. So he probably did have a hitting percentage in that game 😂
@@calvinschoonover5699 😂😂, his hitting percentage be like “undefeated, neva lost”

Why are y’all’s videos always so blurry? It’s 1080p but feels like 720p at best and I’m being generous
i can't believe this is the official NCAA channel too lmao
Thank you for posting this! These guys are amazing
We may need a ceiling extension if the sets keep getting higher and higher!!!
Long Beach who? more like Short Beach
What a great match!!!
If LBSU had a better setter they would’ve been unstoppable 🤷

He meant if any ball is in the plane they are allowed to touch it. And he said I don’t think any of it was in the plane

looks like the net touch was definitely possible though

no one cares. also you can't set the middle when the ball is off the net, that's why ucla is so aggressive with their serving
