Nothing changes, that's why, in very recent times, our rulers imported labour, to quell our living standards. Tony (sir) being one of them. Peace be unto you.

So ended the era of the "Pleasant Peasant" and thankfully so.

I have never heard of this uprising before, it was an interesting story and the change in the wage structure. I never knew about the law to limit the ceiling of wages by the king. It shows you how power can work both ways in the monarchy, excellent work, my friend 👏 👍

The free market is the very essence of supply and demand. Things will always work themselves out of the government would stay out of it. We have the same problem here in the states.

Wonder what would have happened with a protest against the poll tax. Remember learning the basics of this at school but you went into more detail. Used to work at Barts loved it.

In fairness to teachers there is so much to cover and teenagers have other things on their minds apart from historical dates!

One of my ancestors, Sir Alan Buxhull, was the Constable of the Tower at the time, but I am not sure where he was during the revolt though!

I wonder if the Fobbing incident is where we get 'fobbed off' from?
Probably not but the context is there.

Initially I thought so too...but it seems that the phrase didn't come into use until a lot later and even then it seems to have Dutch / Flemish origins.
Shame, because your hunch is a much better story!

So the Peasants taking it out on Flemish merchants begs a question - Were there no Jews in London at that time? It seems like they're the usual target of angry mobs bent on slaughter and oooting.

    • @TheHistoryChap
      @TheHistoryChap  2 роки тому +2

Very good point. No, the Jews had been kicked out in 1290 by King Edward I. They weren't allowed back until the 1650's by Oliver Cromwell.

This is incredible ! We had the same thing happen on to us Jan. on 6th ! I can't believed this !
We did not have a peasants rebellion ! We had a Pheasants rebellion !
That's right Pheasants ! Hundreds of them . They smashed into our capital and made a mess !
Some how a Buffalo got in and I believe he did a # 2 in the halls and walls ? Buffalo are like that .
I love also how the King promised them everything and they say " Sure " ? " What Ever " ! Then they go home .
You need to write this stuff down and open a finger and seal it with blood ! Get in writing or get the Pope after them if all fails !
The Pope was like Batman ! No one touched him and when they needed help , whose ring did they kiss ? He even had a Pope Mobile back then !
