One thing I’ve noticed is that when “eye focus” tracking is on the focusing system tends to pulses in and out trying to find the eye. Another UA-camr by James Reader mention this as well. When disabling the eye focus and just keeping the head detection focus on the focusing system doesn’t pulse as much or at least very minimal.
Yes. Forgot to add that basically at best with v90 you only get so much offload speed but you can run it just fine on v60 cards which are much more affordable. We haven’t had any issues yet with our v60 lexars in any format.
@@NorthwestCameraCo that's good to know. It still just seems shortsighted that they didn't include CFexpress Type B. I know it's to push people to the C400, but for me it makes the whole C400/C80 A/B cam combo unappealing since I don't want to use SD cards and don't want one camera to be arbitrarily limited in the way the other isn't
I was just talking about this camera screens have to get better, I had to buy a monitor for my R5C which is expected for a mirrorless camera but if I got to the C80 I’d definitely want a bigger moveable screen. Another reason why I’d move to the C400 as my A cam. Even though that screen doesn’t look any bigger it moveable.
@@JosephRossPhotography totally agree. The C80’s compact size is great except yeah - the screen is too small. So you add an external monitor and suddenly your camera is weirdly tall. Even worse if you mount the monitor on the top handle. If you’re going to make a compact camera, please make it usable without adding accessories (this goes for all camera companies!). Designing a camera with a nice 4-5” screen seems like such an obvious win
One issue that has bothered me with all of my Canon cameras (C300mkII & mkIII, C70) is how they render artificial blue light. Anything blue turns purple. It seems like it's the same with this new sensor. It's very evident next to the FX6 at 11:22, the string lights in the background are blue on the Sony and purple on the Canon.
@@NorthwestCameraCo I've had to shoot a lot of interviews with Titan Tubes in the background with specific team colours dialled in via RBG. The deep blues are always off on the Canon, they look perfect on the A Cam which has been a Mini or Amira.
@@Miniaminism to be fair we only tested highlight recovery. Which Pyxis does out perform against it. The fx6 and c80 are almost identical. In terms of under exposure, we will post tests later but the fx6 and c80 are almost the same again but have better shadow recovery than Pyxis. So just different distribution of over/under in each camera.
@@NorthwestCameraCo Thanks for the information, interested to see those test then, because the C80 seems to start to lose highlight detail at +3 stops ! That's very thin !
@@emiliandechev5673 maybe you can point me to where this is evident since I sure haven’t seen it. A Raw codec is always more noisy than the compressed version. The c400/80 are cleaner than all the Sonys and Blackmagics both in compressed and then when noise reduction is added to the raw files. If all you’re doing is zooming in 800 percent on every shot sure but at 1:1 the c400/80 are on par or better than every other system in the market. We have all of them at our shop and have yet to see anything from canon that puts them worse than any other system when applying the correct post production workflow and exposing the sensor correctly. Not every sensor is exposed the same and not to mention, internet compression destroys all cameras when it comes to putting artifacts in the image. Fact of the matter if you need say 3200, the canon will have infinitely better noise performance than say an Alexa mini pushed to 3200 or a black magic pushed there.
@@NorthwestCameraCo, Could you share the noise reduction workflow you guys use? I have my own workflow but am always trying to get better. Plus, I just ordered a C400 with some arles, and I'm super excited to get out and shoot with them!
LOVE the softness the Canon sensor delivers, so milky. Cant wait to have my C80. Great review!
11:43 shows what I don't like about Sony. There is almost always a yellow tint on the skin tones. The C80 is definitely on my wishlist.
Thank you, this was great and very informative.

Sounds like an overactive eye tracking. I hope that’s what it is an not an issue.
Unfortunately V90 SD cards are not cheap media! Much more expensive than CFexpress Type B

There's a place called SEE eyewear in Seattle. Think they are online also. www.seeeyewear.com
