- This week I'm sharing my favourite thing to eat during the Easter holiday - homemade hot cross buns scented with orange, full of dried fruit and chocolate chips. This is a recipe where I use no stand mixer and the dough is kneaded by hand. I couldn't think of a cosier destination to bake than this cabin on a snow-covered mountain in the alps of Italy. This area of north Italy is called Trentino and is home to the Dolomites.

I never knew the cross could be a flour mixture, I had seen the razor cut to make the cross but I think I like this way much better! Best wishes and prayers for your sisters speedy recovery

What better way to convalesce than to be in a cozy cabin in the beautiful Alps with good company, and Kylie doing the cooking and baking. I think I'd have to stretch out my recovery period!🙃

This was so lovely.I bet your mountain cabin smelled delicious when you baked them. I’m looking forward to making them .What a beautiful part of Italy this is. I remember my grandmother telling me about the sheep herders that lived in the mountains, that they would make wine out of dandelions and made cheese as well. This was a long time ago as she was in her 80’s in the late 60’s. I wonder if Guido ever heard of this. I miss her . On Palm Sunday she would weave palms into beautiful cone shapes. She shared her love of gardening and growing with me. I hope your sister is ok and that she is cycling and back to yoga soon . Happy Easter from New York.

Haha! To be honest, some are doughy and heavy and bland. We’re quite fussy about a worthy hot cross bun in my family.
Hi Kylie and Guido, that area of Italy that you're in is especially photogenic during the snowy winter months. I'm sorry to hear of your sister's injury and of her having to endure an MRI. Those MRI machines are a little scary. I just had to endure to MRI's myself, one for my thoracic region, the other for my lumbar region, (nothing too serious, just wear & tear of life's activities; back still hurts from time-to-time, though). I'm probably a little claustrophobic, come to think of it. I hope that your sister has had an easier time with those MRI machines than I have, (my technicians were very helpful). I hope that your sister is able to recover quickly and is able to enjoy that beautiful area of Italy very soon. I used to be a baker; I will try your recipe as soon as I can partition an area of the kitchen to do my baking from the kitchen supervisor- mom. 👨🍳👨🍳🙂

Hello, Kylie. That looks so delicious. I do recognize the name of the little store along with the ingredients from growing up in Germany. It's true they don't have vanilla extract, only these tiny bottles of vanilla essence. My mom marvels every time I show her pure vanilla extract.

Love skiing in Italy it’s been two years but our favorite is Madonna di Campiglio we stay in a little town of Dimaro . We have skied all the ski resorts in Italy the best food good skiing!
