First: Please watch the whooooole video before you say anything! Also, remember, everyone's allowed to have a different opinion! No need to send hatred or bigotry because mine may differ from yours. Thank you in advance :)
In this impromptu video I talk about my opinions on the recent Twitch ban of Hasan for saying a controversial word. I was watching the Leftovers Podcast with H3H3 and felt inspired to talk about this. This word seems to offend some, seems to offend others that it offends some ... so a lot to discuss! As usual, I try to offer my opinions and insight in the most respectful way so I hope this comes off as a video that can be useful/ helpful to anyone. Also, my apologies for the lighting changing throughout this video, i filmed for about 20 minutes but the sun goes down at like 3pm in Seattle these days!

@@mof5490 Progressive actually just means social reform. In any way that you consider progressing forward. Nazism was considered progressive in the early 1900's. It is highly subjective.
Nazism was not conservative (conserving what is or the recent past), it was highly progressive. It wanted to completely alter the shape of the nation, which it did.
Progressive is not inherently "good". It just means change as opposed to stagnation.
Keep that in mind. Progress for you is not the same as progress for Adolf or Joseph.
I am a fascist. Obviously not in support of the abomination of fascism that was Nazism...but a progressive nonetheless. I am a progressive as much as my communist enemies are...we both want radical reform of our government but we want it in different ways with different outcomes.
The thing we share with communists is that we don't want the average man to rule. Democracy is a blight, as Socrates has pointed out. Only the wise are worthy. THAT change would progress our nation.
I find it funny both left and right throw "fascist" at each other as if it were an insult. It isn't, it's factually true. We share with both sides in the US. The nationalism on the right and the ant-religion and acceptance of political violence on the left. This only means we are the next likely to get elected. We can cater to both sides.

Think insulting someone for or because of their race with a negative word simply reinforces the concept of race and is therefore not progressive at all.

Are you insinuating that progressivism is not acknowledging the concept of race?? If so, you might need to get your dichotomy checked first lol. Additionally, it's quite the opposite with the subsection of the people who are offended by "cracker" bc the ppl losing their minds over it are also the ones who argue that if black ppl don't want to hear white ppl say the n word, then they shouldn't say it themselves. I want to make it clear that no one is pushing ppl to say "cracker." The injustice is that twitch will conform to white identity politics bc of their majority demographics while blatantly ignoring the casual racism that goes on everyday.

I don’t know if you’re still reading comments on this video or not because it’s older, but I think a lot of what you said was good, I just think you missed (or at least didn’t mention) really the most important part of this whole situation. The word itself when used as a slur can be taken by anyone to be derogatory, and I agree with you when you said that if it genuinely hurts someone, it shouldn’t be used against them. However, this word specifically is very unique because of its origin. It being a descriptive term for people who cracked whips on slaves. The people which used the word were heavily oppressed. Which is in stark contrast to other slurs which are used by people who are oppressors against those who are oppressed. Meaning that the slur doesn’t have the same effect as others, because it is used against oppressors by the oppressed. Even in a one to one comparison, this slur at its worst is an attempt by oppressed people to express their discontent with their oppressors. Now another slur such as the n-word at its worst leads to the death of the oppressed person it was used against. That’s why people say that it isn’t a slur, because it isn’t the same as any other slur due both to its origins and the effects that it has. Now I know you haven’t been watching hasan for long so I’d just like to say that hasan routinely stops his stream to address specific people on topics like this one. He has many times calmly articulated why this slur shouldn’t be held on the same level as others. On top of that, hasan himself is a white person. He used a slur against white people as a white person, something that isn’t against twitch TOS. If a person of any other group had used a slur against that same group, they wouldn’t have been banned. That’s why hasan is saying that twitch is catering to white supremacists, because only racial puritan would look at him and say he wasn’t white. It’s fine to not use it because you don’t agree with using derogatory terms against people, but placing it on the same level as other slurs which get people killed only serves to hurt those which they are used against.

I thought it would be significant since a lot of discourse was around it being disparaging towards white slave owners versus poor, white folks who were treated less than. We do not have to agree with or like people to recognize their humanity. Just like a plant can't grow in a pot that is too small, people on all sides cannot grow if we are judging them and thus confining them. There is a beautiful story about a neo-nazi who changed after his case was given over to a black probation officer. Her kindness and belief in him transformed him. ua-cam.com/video/njXZUH5hv0w/v-deo.html When we alienate people, it can push them further into prejudice which is the absolute opposite of what we want.

While I agree with Hasan's understanding of the word, the number of times that he used it and tried to drill home his point was way too far. I agree with him on the difference it has to other slurs, but it just got to a point where he was just clearly trying to instigate a ban, which he got to nobody's surprise.
One of the things I love about Hasan is how he uses agitprop to make sure he gets the audience's attention, and then he'll break down what he said in a way that helps them understand his point but I think when that goes too far, the original message is lost and the insults become isolated and the only focus of the conversation. The discourse just devolved into Hasan trying to prove that Twitch would ban him for what he said.
I'm not upset as long as when he returns he breezes past this situation and uses much less divisive terms to get his point across. You can't use words like that and then just expect everyone to sit and listen to what you have to say without criticism. Some opinions are much better to be broken down without the whole agitation part.
It's important to also mention that this was instigated when his mods kept getting banned for using the word when they were watching Masterchef before Hasan decided to share his opinion on its use. I've been watching him for about a year and he hasn't used this work once in that time lmao

    (Watched the whole video).
Like to view Hasan as just a left version of a tonight show type entertainer, alright for some news coverage stuff but actual education/information there’s a lot of better places (livestream ain’t the way to get it).
Think insulting someone for or because of their race simply reinforces the concept of race and is therefore not progressive at all. Think cementing people into “race” is a far-rightwing categorisation, not that categorisation is inherently leaning that way but using terminology so binary that it is simply white and poc as the two is not ideally useful for progressive movements.
The end goal of anti racism is for race to not be used to classify people as there would be no difference between ppls races. As with institutionalised racism along with both economic and geographical racism having gone leaving just appearance/features (cultural differences would be on ethnicity not race).
    7:58
University/college is still education so it’s going to involve learning, getting everyone to base level of understanding is always required and should be known by students.
Understand how that could be frustrating though lashing out at the product of a system (a privileged person) that had no choice in if they would either need to be educated or if racism would be seemingly part of their lived experience is a low/shit thing to do when they went out of their way to be informed about injustices.
The same could easily be said of guys having to be taught and educated on misogyny n even patriarchy.
Are those people bitter that privileged people, learn about racism through a class rather than the lived experience, I think a few are and I see them as no different to the type of people that say we shouldn’t be allowed to have our student debt forgiven because they paid theirs off 30 years ago. But I have nothing against those who'd rather take a more MLK-like approach. While I disagree with your stance, your argument is well-formulated, so kudos for that!

Malcolm X was a militant black supremacist and supported segregation. How is that progressive?

Can't believe you wasted 4:10 minutes for intro of this topic. Get straight to the point, keep your intro about the topic short. You just kept saying that you are sjw and that you have a platform to say something and that you don't send hate and then again your said you're just saying your opinion. Cut that bullshit and straight to the point.
