What a lovely birth. The mothers face when she first saw her baby was amazing and when the foul looked at her, mum started licking and chewing as a sign to the baby she was not threat. I did stud work for years and loved it. In this video I really appreciated that nobody intervened during the actual birth and nobody was calling out, "good girl... you can do it". We were always told to stay quite and whenever possible, just let mum do her thing.

Thank you for your understanding, that was our intention and hope that others will be inspired to let the horses give birth in peace and only step in when it’s really necessary. Horses have been around for thousands of years and they’ve mostly managed to foal without any intervention.

What a beautiful video. So glad mom and little one are healthy. But I have to kind of chuckle a bit, at one point- I think at around 19:00- give or take- she’s probably thinking, “A little help here??!?” But in all seriousness- it’s amazing how natural instinct just takes over. Mother Nature at work. Thanks for sharing this!

Hei Martine, thank you for your question. We have fans in our stalls, it does help a bit, but giving birth does take a lot of energy, so sweating will occur even when giving birth out on a snowy field
Beautiful but for a bit there I was thinking before we see this Mama in this much intimate detail maybe we should get to know her a bit more? Or at least know her name?😂 That was the most intimate birthing of a foal I've seen. Wow. Also love how baby's "star" patterns looks so much like Mama's. Most likely will even more once babe grows a bit bigger.

Detailed documentation of a horse giving birth with several stages through the labour. From early signs of foaling until the placenta falls out. Documenting stages of the labour that we´ve noticed during the foaling of a colt by our horse. By the first signs of milk dripping from teats (lactation), the water breaking, sign of contractions, foaling and the placenta falling out. Detailed with time and description through every stage documented. This is our Arabian mare, Isabella. She is a very experienced mother, giving birth to her 7th foal in this video. We believe horses have been giving birth for thousands of years without needing too much of human interference and pulling during labour, *unless the mare is in medical need for help, which she was not in this case. So that's why we have not interfered too much and given the mare peace and support throughout the whole process of giving birth. As you can see in this video, she did a great job, and both the mare and foal are healthy and strong. *But please show understanding for others that might need help and assist during due to emergency. And have an understanding for those who chose the natural way with least interference, or letting the horse give birth without help. We made this video to share with you our experience with letting the mare give birth naturally, and for you to see from the beginning until the end as an education and knowledge about the stages through labour. @@arabianhorsefamily She's brilliant for 18 years old. Such a beautiful mare. Well done for looking after her so well. As the video is 2 years old, has she had another foal since or is she retired now?
Foals need to be up on their feet within an hour, from a safety point of view in the wild, or they'd be at risk from predators. But even in a safe stable environment, they need to be up nursing from the mare's teats, to help the mare expel the placenta. The foal drinking their milk, makes the uterus contract to expel the placenta. If it gets delayed or stuck, it can be dangerous for the mare. Then a vet needs to come and take it out.
i was making a vedio and sent it to my friend with horses and asked is that normal for the baby to be so big and she sayed yea it just means that the dad was really big
Great to see no (or minimal, off camera) interference. I so dislike those that think they have to jump in the stall the second a foot appears, pestering the mare, and worse yet, pulling as soon as a leg appears. Totally not recommended, or safe. This mare was so relaxed, doing what she needed to do as nature intended.

Best to google if there’s any Arabian horses where you are, otherwise importing one is an option, but have to prepare paperwork etc.

No, it doesn't take long time to clean up. But you have to prepare for cleaning the umbilical cord of the foal with antiseptictic
Is she an Arabian mix? She looks 1/2 quarter horse
I think when a horses' ears are forward, that means they are happy or paying attention. If they're backward, that means they're angry or agitated.
