Reotee, a tireless wickerworker

Since the age of 16, Reotee Buleeram's fingers have lovingly woven baskets of vacoa, called "tentes" in Mauritius. An art that she inherited from her mother-in-law and put at use for her family to help her husband, a worker in the sugar industry. Baskets for meals, bazaar baskets, suitcase baskets: the inhabitants of Brisée Verdière and the surrounding are delighted with her products. Her reputation has spread to hotels for which she manufactures bright coloured beach bags made of raffia.
