Oh my goodness! you just so simply explained something I.ve been trying to wrap my headed around. I couldn't put my finger on why my garden too on that messy look. thank you for your insight!!
I watch a lot of UA-cam instructional and diy videos. I really like your writing and narration style. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to the generic style you. See a lot here. You appropriately include anecdotes and convey the lessons through a foundational narrative. You know, actually good writing. 😊
Subscribed. :) I generally skew towards formal gardens or Japanese gardens, likely because there is a greater percentage of "void" areas. So even though cottage gardens aren't my favourite, I still came away with a couple design principles I can use in an upcoming garden I'm planning in my front yard. Apart from the information, I also appreciate the tenor of your voice, the cadence of your relay, and the fact that you clearly had an outline of your message and filmed that all in one shot from memory!
Thank you so much. Yes, I’ve seen some of these tips used in all sorts of gardens. I try to speak to what I know personally and the cottage garden is what I’m most familiar with so that’s the reason for naming it here. ❤️ please excuse me for taking so long to respond to this message!
We're planning a cottage garden for our new home. Your information has been very helpful, thank you! It makes sense understanding why some cottage gardens look pleasing and others not. This is the first time your channel, by way of this video, has come across my YT feed and I've subscribed. Will be heading into your video library Anne, Tasmania 🦘
Glad it was helpful Anne! I hope that you are able to find some inspiration there. Thank you very much for being here and taking the time to leave this helpful comment!
So it seems I have madness and chaos 😂 I totally relate to what you said about missing that something special in your cottage garden. Loved watching this! Would be great to have more of those visuals as you explain your thoughts like you did on the grouping of plants tip. Look forward to seeing your channel grow.
So nice to meet you Vanessa!!! It’s fun to meet fellow gardeners. Great video and information. Liked and subscribed because I can’t wait to see more🌻🌻🌻
Great information! Thank you so much for this I have a cottage garden and I look at it and think it's looking messy and I'm not liking it , I mean the flowers are Beautiful but something is not right 😮 so thank you again it helps.
Just found you and I am so glad I did! I really like how you offer clear instruction and examples in how to create a calm garden. Thank you so much for this very helpful video 😊 God’s eternal blessings to you🌷🦋🌳🌲🪴💕
Thank you so much for taking a minute to leave this comment after taking some time to watch. I do not take that lightly as all of our time is precious. Thank you so much! ❤
Good video. I think that’s where repetition is key. Look at a beautiful cottage garden like Great Dixter in England. It doesn’t look messy to me as they use some of the garden principles you mentioned.
Well said! Yes repetition. I used to make the mistake of thinking that I needed to plant one of everything whereas just multiples of a few are much better! ❤
I LOVE my calm blank spots in my front yard. I have a white privacy fence and I keep thinking if I could plant something here or there. Then I say "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Leave blank spaces for calm and negative space.
I’m at 4:48, still no practical information. I love your way of speaking, the photos of your yard. I need more examples of these concepts. Thank you for your work!
Barbara, you can also listen to what she is saying, paying close attention, that allows me to visualize the concepts in my mind and then apply it to my space
Up to that point she was breaking down the concepts of mass and void. I’m personally glad she approaches teaching in this way to lay the conceptual foundation before she presents examples.
Here is the problem I have. I have my beds and my restful void areas. And I have the greenest of green thumbs. Everything grows well. But I have bully thugs in the flower beds. The plants that are bully thugs grow by leaps and bounds and smother out other plants that are needed to create balance. And yes and rip them out but then I have bare spots
Oh Jan, do I know this problem! My garden thugs are Bermuda grass and trumpet vine! I am sorry to hear this as I know it’s frustrating to do all that work only to have your garden overtaken by uncontrollable weeds!
@@boyerco4909i have let spaces go wild. You learn a lot, its very cool. But there is not much space for humans to live. Your feet catch in the long grass. My baby couldnt walk around. My brain feels clogged trying to determine what is weeds and how to tackle. I wouldnt want that near my house. Its about balance.
@@lmellowe actually have a field that borders our property that is wild often. I find some solace knowing that many of the critters get to live there as wild as they want! 😂 I do keep my kids from exploring there too much! 😂 but thank you for the tip. I should find a spot in the yard to let go wild❤
Thank you! I’d love to see more plants in your videos when narrating ❤

Does an illusion of "spontaneity" describe better than "carelessness" ?

Indeed! Carefree 🥰
Really! 😂😂😂
Permaculture ,, is all about the wild and messy. Gardens are not like a bathroom, does not need to be " scrubbed and way " clean ". Please be wild .
I do agree that wild is also needed. The butterflies, bees, wildlife, and overall ecosystems benefits from this as well.
