In the last 6 hours a lot has changed in my life. The only thing consistent about in my world is you two dudes and the crew.
I hope everything is okay Veronica! These guys always seem to make me smile even on my worst days
I hope everything is okay, bless you.
I’ve felt the same thing about them over the course of the pandemic
Change is good, consistency is boring.
Remember all pain eases
And I hope that yours will ease soon
😊
I loved my octopus teacher. I just watched it for a 2nd time with my parents last week.
When I was 8 or 9, I made friends with a kangaroo who would follow us to school, wait at the gate and follow us home for nearly a year.
A kangaroo 😭😭😭
this some australia typa shit
Cool🤘☮️😜
I'm only a few minutes in and I'm already comforted. You guys bring a lot of relief and healthy distraction to some of us who have really difficult lives so thank you
My life isn’t difficult, but these are some crazy times, & these two guys are my daily dose of healthy distraction and a reminder of how times used to be.
i agree so much! i love listening to them, fills up my need for social interaction
I know Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me
This podcast is my safe place. Anytime I’m feeling overly anxious or worried, I settle somewhere and turn this on. I am very grateful for this outlet that the two of you and the crew have created. I can’t wait to watch this documentary also and get a good cry going, oof.
6:11 Promise Kept Link! I DID stop listening to the audio podcast to watched Octopus Teacher. Like Rhett said, if it's true love you'll come back, I did- twice, to both the audio podcast and video version!
I comment led the same thing, I did that too!!
same but it took me some time
Where can I watch The Octpus Teacher....I need to watch this amazing documentary?
@@nehaduggal5639 My Octopus Teacher is on Netflix- less that an hour long. Its really great!
@@maryjo3255 thx
Nobody:
Rhett: I'm a very large man.
So me 😂😂🤙🏼
I watched 'My Octopus Teacher' and was amazed at their ability to learn without a teacher. So what I learned was it is better to be 'curious' than be taught to do things, and that is the way I raised my two children (now in their twenties), I didn't teach them anything but to be curious, my job was to keep them safe!
Octopus do not raise young anyway, much like most animals. This is not an anomaly
Can you please make a shirt that's the patchwork from the background? With Ear Biscuits in "nametag" spot?
That would be killer. And I'd buy it instantly! I can hope! 🤞
That would be really cool!
That is a good idea for sure 👍.
That would be awesome!
I know a lady who, as a teenager, rescued a baby Bluejay. It had been abandoned by the mother. When the baby Bluejay was able to fly, this young lady let it go into the wild. When the young lady would step outside and say "Jay!" The Bluejay would come and light on her shoulder. This continued for several years.
Jays are in the corvid family of birds, the most intelligent birds. While more studies need to be done, this family of birds (jays, crows, ravens, grackles) have been determined to be smarter than chimps and dolphins. They are INCREDIBLE birds. Birds that have learned human language even in the wild.
Obviously this is something I'm interested in. I love birds in general, I am a bird nerd. Coming from someone who loves all birds, this particular family of birds is the most fascinating to me. I also had a friend who rescued a blue jay. She never released it into the wild. It spoke better English than most people I know.
When growing up my dad had chickens, and for a few years we had an owl that decided to live with them, it would sleep during the day when the chickens were up, and would hunt mice at night when they were all asleep. It got so use to me coming in to collect eggs at night that I could pet, pick up and put it on my shoulders. Then one day it wasn't there, was sad after seeing him everynight for years.
That’s so awesome
Not a good story to tell weeks away from Thanksgiving 😆
That’s crazy - I’ve heard of owls attacking and eating chickens. Must have been a good steady supply of mice around 👍🏻
@@cbmx1x1 it kinda domesticated itself when it was a baby still, the size of a can of pop, and over the 3 to 4 years it hung around was still smaller than our large egg layers in height...but damn near weighed the same. Yeah lots of mice always near our chicken feed. They would nest under the rain barrel we kept the feed in, and if you lifted a side up mice would scatter, everyday, for years. The owl loved it, and grossly chickens too if you let them during the day.
Lol, Link. "It's called Octopussy" he didn't miss a beat. So quick on the draw. Ha ha ha.
When Rhett spoke about Barbara and eye contact it made me think of my dog that recently had a fit. His eyes darted left to right and stayed that way all evening and a little the next day, because of this he couldn't focus he tried now and again but just couldn't. I remember thinking it was like he was gone, like I couldn't see him or communicate with him anymore, only at that moment did I realise how much expression and mutual communication comes just from their eyes. The way he looked at me so intently had gone. I was heartbroken until he recovered. I never take those looks for granted anymore ❤
I love this 😭
Bluesilva Halo My cat often has seizures. They don’t make anywhere near the facial expressions we do. But it breaks my heart seeing that catatonic, blank stare. It’s sad when I’ll be sitting on the ground next to him, trying to keep him calm. But as he slowly comes to, it’s like you can see so much of “him” coming back just from his eye focus and eyes. Animals communicate so much through their eyes.
@@BMarie774 I know, that's why I felt like he wasn't the same dog at all, he couldn't look at anyone. Theres such a connection when they're looking at you. I know you can have connections with blind animals but it's obviously more tactile and sound orientated but to suddenly lose that visual connection was just awful. He hasn't had one since thank goodness!
45:49 actually crocodiles are VERY smart they have an advanced cortex and can learn really well
I feel like in the case of having any animal friend, a “dangerous” animal is always the most appealing to me because it’s so unnatural for an animal who could literally eat you to be your buddy. I feel like a bear, tiger, or great white shark would be my choice
I think is one of their better episodes of Ear Biscuits. Love this exploration of the connection between animals and humans. Also, Rhett is referring to Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. They live freely on the private property, can go on and off of it, but come in the morning and evenings to poke their head through the windows for a treat.
I’m back after being forcibly coerced into watching My Octopus Teacher as a prerequisite
I was just going to watch this and not watch the documentary. Changed my mind. Now have a crying headache after weeping for the last half hour or so of the film.
link: the penguin was just a ball of feathers? 🤣🤣🤣 well done, sir!
You two have duo-handedly gave me inspiration to keep going. Throwing myself out there. I'm depressed. You guys lift me up an give me hope for me future
Yessss. The roundtable of dim lighting brings me peace.
I loved watching that! I'm so going to check out that reccomendation right now, best rec yet. An 1 hour well spent!
Link holding up Jade was so cute.
Time stamp?
Welll looks like I gotta pause this and go watch it
I did the same, do not regret it one bit
So worth it!
Because of your recommendation at the beginning, I stopped watching this episode and watched the documentary. THANK YOU! This documentary is one of the best one's I've seen in my entire life. The whole bond is so touching, but the main thing that stuck with me is that circle of life. The octopus lived it's life and then it reproduced and it died because of that. And if this guys didn't recorded it's life, we wouldn't never knew that such life was lived! It was a short life and even though in a way it didn't do much for the world per say, it was an important life because it's life was connected to other life's, and most importantly, it continued it's own specie. The circle of life! Who knows what kind of life's are being lived out there! Moments are happening, stories are developing. Exitance is continuing to go on. Life is special even when it doesn't seem so! So thank you for the recommendation, I think it changed my life!
LOVED THAT REC RHETT & LINK!! I put you guys on pause and watched the documentary... and now I'm reporting in to say... WOW, that was an amazing and I got sucked into it and was mesmerized, informed and even a bit comforted and hopeful because of the connection between two creatures on this earth. I understand why Rhett couldn't stop talking about it! Truly amazing!! Love you guys.
I enjoyed hearing Rhett share his thoughts on those more controversial subjects. I know the internet can be a difficult place to speak on those things that stir people's emotions, but it is absolutely necessary and it was nice to see that thoughtful side of him.
It's insane because just after watching the documentary "my octopus teacher" I was looking over the edge of a dock thinking about how cool it would be if I actually saw an octopus and then one (that looked just like the octopus from the documentary) legit appeared out of no where and swam away through some rocks and into the depths. I cannot believe this happened!
*6 minutes into EB* Alright I’ll go give it a watch...
*hour and a half later* Netflix really do be making me cry over an octopus
That was probably the best documentary I've seen all year. But I did come back
This week on the underwater podcast
Squidward: Humans evolved with their cognitive power completely in their heads
The Kraken: They're on a completely different... branch!
Squidward: Wild
I cannot express how much I love hearing yall tell stories. Thanks for years of laughter and much more.
Thank you guys. I paused when you said “go watch it if you don’t want spoilers” and I’m so glad I did. I cried. This was profound for me. I haven’t been this moved by something in a while. Thanks 🙏
Thank you so much. I finally got around to watching My Octopus Teacher tonight and it was just incredible. I'm going to try to get my parents to watch it too and maybe it will help them understand why I think and feel the way I do in all these different areas of my life. I might be 30 but I still have a hard time really conveying my messaging to them, because I'm their son so I'm just always going to be immature and not understand how the 'real world works' in their eyes. I'm hopeful maybe if they watch this, learn from it, conversations might go smoother and we can try to rebuild our relationships. I've been watching GMM for a little over a year now but have just started listening to the podcasts within the last month and its become something I really look forward to, maybe even more than GMM itself. I really appreciate you guys, you've filled a really big hole for me and I can honestly say you've made my life better. Thank you Rhett. Thank you Link. Thank you everyone on the Mythical Crew.
"Octopuses" is perfectly correct!
Getting a 3 hour tattoo. I needed this thank y’all for making the pain hurt a lot less
I literally stopped this video an hour and a half ago to go watch the documentary. It was absolutely beautiful in every way. Highly recommend it
Rhett FYI - the plural of octopus IS octopuses, not octopi - octopi is just a made-up word. So you were doing it right :)
All words are made up ;)
Octopuses, octopi and octopod can all be correct.
@@zachfreeman2502 Incorrect. I'm sorry but octopi is simply not a correct term. It's a very common misconception.
@@soccerguy325 Language is subjective, constantly evolving and can vary significantly between populations and individuals. Common usage determines correctness, but that's just descriptivism baabeeey.
The reason octopuses is the correct term is that the -i plural form is only correct for words of Latin origin. Octopus is not a Latin word.
Morning everyone.
good evening from india
Or better yet, good mythical morning. Or evening, depending on the time.
Hey Dan! 🌞 Still night for me, as I’ve yet to sleep...spent the night entertaining my insomnia! 🙄🥱
Good morning from Mississippi
It’s afternoon now but I just woke up. Morning!
Thanks for the tip. I just watched "my 🐙octopus teacher" and loved it. Every connection/band with an animal (specially a wild one) is so powerful, amazing and precious! I worked with birds of prey/owls for several years and still I am amazed every day about the special band we have. And very grateful to be in their presence! We can learn so much from the aninalworld if we just be open to it! @linkneal @rhettmc @mythical thank you both for being you and reminding us all to be our mythical best! 🙏❤
I'm back and it's most definitely valid to cry watching it. 🤍🗿
Ok I couldn't listen to this for a week until I finally watched My Octopus Teacher. So glad I did, I am back AND I have this weeks podcast too! Woohoo
You save more plants too by not eating animals. Most of the crops grown in the U.S. are used to feed livestock.
Ayyyyyman 👏🏼👏🏼
I have subtitles on and when you said common octopus it read communist octopus. 😂
I paused this podcast when they said to, watched My Octopus Teacher, then continued to listen. Definitely worth it!
Where can I view this show? I need to watch it
@@nehaduggal5639 Netflix!

This channel is underrated
I’m really glad I went and watched it before continuing with the podcast. That was an amazing film.
Watched the documentary a couple days ago and I ALMOST forgot to come back to this episode of the podcast until today! Let's do this
Rhett, I think most ppl who have a tougher outer layer to their personality are the tender ppl.
Okay I just watched it on Netflix, it was incredible and now I'm back as promised!
that documentary was amazing i’m so glad you guys talked about it
My husband and I loved my octopus teacher. Not your normal documentary! It’s very good and emotional!
I have never loved an episode of Ear Biscuits as much as I love this one!💜
Crocodilians (alligators included) are actually incredibly intelligent, so you saying that reptiles aren't very smart isn't true of all kinds of reptiles
I just went to watch Octopus teacher. came back to see your discussion. The film was amazing and I am craving more. And your discussion about it was amazing. Love this episode
I just stopped watching Ear biscuits to check out the documentary and it was beautiful and emotional and very insightful so thank you Rhett.
I just watched this documentary and it is...............
FANTASTIC! if you haven't watched this yet watch it now. It is so great
Everybody who hasn’t seen it stop at 10:00
Rhett - I find the fact you're willing to be open and talk about your emotions, etc to be such a wonderful thing. Lovely to see you grow as a person. I always think of the line from "The Holiday" (given by Jude Law's character) - "I'm a weeper. I weep." This is me when it comes to sad things.
6:04. I'm out. ill finish my exams, watch it and come back. SEEYAA
edit: i am back after my exams and I've seen the documentary
i wanna be friends with a wild elephant
I'd like to be under the sea in an octopuses garden in the shade. It's a song.
I have always loved octopi and have seen my videos about there intelligence. This is the first time I have seen one treat a human as if it enjoyed the company. It is amazing
Why does this channel only have 300K subs
I watched it after Rhett's tweet and oh my goodness, it was incredible. So absorbing, once you start watching you won't leave it....and boy I cried 🐙❤
I did pause this biscuit and go watch the documentary and then came back to finish the podcast.
I'm so glad you decided to speak about this important documentary 🐙❤️
Definitely going to be investing my time into watching The Octopus Teacher. Emotional + Educational? Double whammy!
Elephant came to mind for my wild animal companion.
I listened to this episode of ear biscuits, up until the part where Link recommended watching the documentary on Netflix and then coming back and listening to the rest of the episode. I stopped listening, later watched My Octopus Teacher 🐙 , enjoying it, and then came back and am now re-listening to this podcast like suggested.
In Denmark there's a guy who has a pet squirrel. He rescued it when it was just a baby, raised it and when he tried to release it, it just wouldn't go. He tried multiple times but in the end just accepted that the squirrel was now his pet🐿️
I think the Title of this video was suppose to say, "Are Wild Animals Best Friends".
I would make friends with a fox. This was a very comforting episode. Thanks so much for making this podcast. It really means a lot. :) 💙
#earbiscuits
37:10 - Link's reference to the cast audio commentary of LOTR:TFOTR!(At least, that's what I'm assuming it is.)
What a cool episode, love the way r&l think
I stopped the video and left to watch it yesterday. I liked it so I had my parents watch it and watched it with them again today and now I’m back 😆😆😆
Rhett: there is life in all things.
Me: hmm sounds like something that surrounds us and binds us to all things, some sort of.... Force....
I love One Tree Hill. Wilmington is one of my favorite places to be.
The bricklayer penguin story was a missed opportunity for a stone giving joke
I had this connection they speak of but with a plastic bag when I was younger, I would play with it, carry stuff in it, probably talk to it, let it float in the wind and it would always come back to me, I would run around trying to catch it when it came back down, one day it was too windy and it flew away never to come back, I stood at the window crying and my mom struggled to understand but I just couldn’t explain, to this day I’ll never understand it. When the movie American beauty came out and he was filming a plastic bag calling it the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen I remembered this time in my life and still thought it was so weird, I absolutely love that movie and always associate the 2 now and I have no idea why I’m putting this on the internet for everyone to see lol
I cried myself to sleep after this part @ 36:00
Ha, Pun.
i love the conversations here
Don't know why even tho I have heard Rett say his favorite animal before. I thought he was going to say a moose and then go on about riding it through the bush and feeding it bark in the morning in his boxer's with his morring coffee.
That octopus got me crying too. Sneaky little f*cker.
When can I get my tickets for the chunk world tour?
Great episode guys. So interesting to hear your perspectives on such things.
Grammatically speaking, the plural for octopus is octopuses.
Just finished the documentary and now im back
"Often I go to the place of her main den... and I just float above it and feel her there."
Hey Rhett, when the world opens you should visit Valencia,Spain. There is an amazing open-concept zoo(?) It's hardly a zoo, there aren't cages really. And the giraffes are just walking around and you can sit in a cafe and there are just there like meters away. Pretty cool
Rhett is an ENTP. The ENTP’s achille’s heal or blind spot is ‘introverted feeling’ which is your own feelings
55:31 Gestation period for lions: 110 days or a little more than three months
Lion gestation is 110 days. So definitely possible in just a few months.
That's an amazing story.
Three months is only 93 days at most.
@@vickiedavie8306 ...yes, which is why I said " so definitely possible in a *few* months"
@@lissaw4 Yeah, so I think to stay within the general definition that I perceive as "a few"(which is something I read somewhere that stuck with me) it would have to be closer to five.
I promise I am not looking for an argument. I sometimes just like to discuss details and work things out as to actual sequences of events and how things actually happened. Sometimes those statements or thoughts are short, and sometimes not so much. ;)
@@vickiedavie8306 I mean, yeah, it's pretty clear that you are. That's cool though. Here's the definition of "few", so that you can be clear on that detail used within my comment. Feel free to fact check on your own. I prefer not to have a debate about such a widely accepted and acknowledged definition for academic and professional standards.

It may take a few million years but maybe if we protect earth long enough, one day there will be a miraculous genetic mutation in Octopi that dramatically increases their lifespan (or a mutation that effectively overrides or counters the cause of their short lifespan), and then maybe that Octopus will survive long enough to pass on her genes and before you know it Octopi have a public transport system in outer space.
Could someone please time stamp when the spoilers end from Octopus teacher, for those that haven't watched it yet, could watch again?
Eh...they kinda talk about it here and there throughout the episode...
