The text Even When He is Silent was written by a Jew hiding in Cologne, Germany, during World War II where the text was found scratched onto a wall. Using the sun as a metaphor, it speaks of hope in the face of despair. This powerful text reminds us that even if everything seems dark and difficult, we should always keep our faith in God, love and hope.
This choral work by Arnesen was first commissioned by the St. Olaf Festival (Olavsfestdagene) in Trondheim, Norway in 2011.
I believe in the sun even when it’s not shining.
