The way I see it, Yeji (and Lia + Chaeryeong) don’t only need actual vocal trainers but those girls DESERVE vocal trainers. The amount of untapped potential with them is kind of crazy.
The entirety of Itzy are untapped when it comes to vocal potential. They're working with scraps and still making it work, albeit we can clearly see they're slowly declining.
Yeji pains me the most, I hope and pray she takes a page out of Seungmin's book and find a vocal trainer outside of JYP because she has so much potential.
the thing is that the notes she has to sing are all so out of her range (same with the other members). it's hard to improve when the notes are difficult to reach to begin with
THIS. If idols want good vocal coaching, they need to have learned it BEFORE joining a company. Company vocal training is low average to average at best. Once one person is fully trained, they can share their learnings with other members.
@@krisuler7734 Yeah, no. Regardless if you like her parts during NMIXX's songs, Lily is one of 4th gen's best vocalists. The point is that she can support a variety of ranges and doesn't struggle with live singing. If you don't like how she screams, blame the song producers for giving her those parts. The fact she's even able to sing parts that are ridiculously high pitched is impressive in itself.
@@raposainvernaltotally agree she has the largest vocal range in the group i mean with the proper training jisoo and rosé could become vocal powerhouses

I am just here thinking if these idols spent a year getting vocal training at SM academy, they could fix all their issues. A few of these idols just need better breath control and support
@@uc6758 The main vocalists at SM were already professionally trained before they became trainees at SM. Something that fans aren’t aware of. The key to become a good vocalist is to get vocal training before entering the industry because you can’t rely any label to train properly because the industry overall is indifferent to it
@inquisitvem6723 that is not accurate. Taeyeon was trained in SM academy, Jaejoong said he practiced alone till joining SM, Boa was 11 when accepted for her dancing so trained at SM, Jessica was also accepted for dancing so learned singing at SM, Kyuhyun was in a band but not professionally trained due to his parents being opposed to him singing as a career, Hyesung was scouted in the US when he did a singing contest on whim but no formal training, Onew attended SM academy, Kangta was casted as a dancer so learned singing at SM...well you get the point. SM liked casting young too so not sure how much 'professional training 10-11 year Olds can get, especially boys because their voice will start to break and they need to relearn to use your voice.
@@DREAM-re2up taeyeon had professional vocal training before she got to SM…once there they got there, they received more additional training. Wendy and Luna had training before getting into SM. Same for Lina the Grace. Baek, D.O,and Chen had training prior to joining SM
They all need training but they won't get .why waste money when fans actually don't care . Fans talk he/she is bad vocalist and then goes on defending them for their weak vocals Second, not everyone is like Baekhyun (who still takes vocal lessons despite being top Vocalist) or seungmin (who wanted to improve himself). Rest just ride their popularity
I guess it would be in the companies monetary interest if their idols have some vocal longevity, but with the 7 year contracts that is probably exacly the point why they dont need that. In the end, yeah its the fans that need to stop accepting abysmal vocals.
If I were an idol, I would care about my vocals. Even if I were a main dmacer for examples, I would do everyth to be a good vocalist. Even main vocalist. I would want ro be at the top. I would love people to tall about my vocals. But yeah, I guess some idols dont care about vocals. Just want to be decent.
The way i gagged myself when i saw Yoohyeon, but know what? I now see it, and i have a theory: considering that Siyeon and Yoohyeon usually get the most demanding parts in DC' music, it could that the new producers that work with the group (considering that the group's main producer left after Vision) are pushing Yoohyeon into the same style that Siyeon has?
Yoo struggled during maison so bad and I think it's unfair because she pushes herself a lot Both of them should get more lessons bc their talent is immense and should not be wasted by bad technique and songs that are too demanding
That would be ridiculous if that's the case. Because, Siyeon and Yoohyeon DO NOT have the same range and caliber. They're only setting Yoohyeon up for failure by comparison. Same with comparing Sua and JiU. . .
i don't think so, bcs the producers doesn't need Yoohyeon to have the same style as Siyeon BCS they already have SuA to do the job. The pattern for Dreamcatcher similar style vocal line always been Siyeon & SuA / Yoohyeon & Handong / JiU & Gahyeon and they never changed it. I think she might be struggle on something behind the scenes that we don't know. My guess would probably of tiredness or maybe lost of confidence.
As a singer when she is singing high note she is literally screming😅 so when ppl are saying like she is better than lia i think you should see vocal training bc trust yeji is not what we can call a "really good vocalist" (but i lv yeji❤)
@@BbkgSolutions I'm truly sorry but I had a stroke reading this. her high notes aren't screams, just because she's not relaxed doing it doesn't mean that she's screaming the high note. yeji is definitely not better than lia, it's quite obvious why lia is the main vocalist of itzy. yeji isn't a strong vocalist however she's incredibly stable, even with the hardest choreography. she's more of a dancer to begin with but vocally, she does have potential to improve like she did during 2022 - 2024 (it would be way easier for her with a vocal coach though)
I am very happy that you put Jennie and Jisoo on here. Jennie is my bias and I know she is very talented but I think we can all see that she definitely needs some vocal training. Her voice isn’t bad, but she does need vocal training I mean she is so talented to begin with, so I feel like nurturing that talent will be so wonderful for her career. Jensoo forever I love them so much but they definitely need vocal training. whenever I hear Jisoo’s voice I hear so much nasal I really just wanna hear her real voice sometimes.I know that they both need to train a lot because Jisoo has so much potential as well as Jennie I love them both so much.
Jennie was a rapper till now so I never asked her to much in the singing department and did not tought she wanted to keep releasing music but now as a soloist I hope she invest in proper training so she can explode her potential.
Also, Jennie has revealed that she knows she is not one of the best singers, but during their trainee days, Jennie explained that it wasn’t about becoming the “best singers or dancers” but about proving their all-or-nothing mentality and determination to debut, letting nothing stand in their way. ‘“Before going on stage, rather than thinking about things like, ‘What if I’m not in tune,’ I think of how I’m going to shock everyone sitting out there.” - Jennie
Jeonghan and Joshua should definitely be on this list. Seventeen has an extremely solid vocal team with Seungkwan and DK being the main vocalist and Woozi in the lead. However, being part of the vocal team I really feel like Jeonghan and Joshua should start to be able to support their voices more consistently instead of only relying on their soft, airy voices.
Ya I agree with u but I really appreciate woozi for giving them appropriate notes that support their range nd hence prevent them from straining their voices nd It would be so great if they will able to recieve vocal training to refine their techniques( I don't think so jeonghan had enough time to do so he is soon enlisting maybe)
As 2 of the shorted trained people of the group.. Both of them improved a lot compared to the debut. I guess they never felt the need to learn belting etc because they joined after dk sk woozi and hoshi. Group needed someone to handle softer notes and falsettos so these two handle those. Plus you can see in Joshua doing well in 2 minus 1 and his covers. Jeonghan also is doing some rap parts like in super. Both of them are actually constantly improving compared to when they started and based on what the group needs. So unless they want to have their solo careers (which I don’t think they showed much interest in), they are doing full justice to their parts in the group songs, so I don’t think they need to do anything more than what they are doing now.
@@Anu2k091 yaa I was so much impressed by Joshua in 2minus 1 but considering the recent gose where he mentioned about his insecurity with his singing skills made me concerned about his vocals health nd jeonghan also had mentioned how he found some vocal unit songs a bit difficult to perform live although I had never found him being uncomfortable or nervous in any live performances he really knows his strength nd weakness nd always try to give his best but there is nothing wrong to recieve lessons to take care of their vocals health nd to be able to overcome their insecurity but it's upto them they are already doing great within svt
This. Fans excusing them saying there is no time when they are out of the rookie zone is wild to me. Shinee were busy as f**k around 2010-2012 Taemin still went from not being able to hold a note to one of the most reliable vocalists in the industry. Stray kids are busy AF now and Lee Know, Seungmin and I.N. have all started lessons outside of the company. It's possible when you want it to be 🤷♀️
@BSMutebi-uk3hi then that's a you problem, notice how little blackpink had comebacks or promotions. Do you really think that was all them? We have no idea what goes on being the scenes, so we shouldn't speculate on Wythe they are allowed to or not. We can critique the skills, and provide tips for improvement, but that's it.
What makes NMixx so special is not just their singing ability, but that they can sing AND dance live well too, and sing live on spot impromptu…this is really admirable.
I just knew Itzy in Born To Be and Yeji sounds stable, but every ITZY member need some vocal help. If they keep singing this way their throats gonna EXPLODE. Their throats are not just struggling, they are fighting to survive. I checked Cheshire and this type of singing is REALLY dangerous without proper technique. I am worried to how they performed their schedules with Cheshire. They can get injured, vocal chords injuries and nodules. Exhaustive choreography + demanding vocal.
@ed3245 I don't see that at all. Specifically when that's the one thing that accusations of have plagued the group for years. Them being terrible performers.
Their branding is insane but a lot of ppl forget that they were marketed as a rap first sing second group, that’s why a lot of their earlier songs have Jennie and Lisa rapping most of the verses and the vocalists only really were there to move the song along. Plus they all have very enticing tones (as subjective as tonality is).
I’m pretty sure that’s the point. Companies don’t want to spend all the money and time to train a good soloist because then they can just leave the company and make money on their own. The point is to make idols know that they’re nothing without the company.
Can we have a bg version? and I'm glad that you included bp & itzy most of them rely on their intuition instead of a good technique I hope they get some vocal lessons
I would love to see Yeji get some actual training by...well, anyone that isn't JYP honestly lol but I've seen her potential for so long and it pains me to see her and her entire group just not be allowed to flourish. Everyone on the list of course deserves/needs it, but Yeji hits almost a soft spot for how much untapped potential I feel like she has.
i love how Yeji is slowly but surely improving. It almost like she has intuitive and self aware knowledge of what her voice could be and she is slowly self improving. I am proud of her for holding her own this comeback as the officially unofficial main vocalist. As for Yoohyeon i feel for her because their main vocal Siyeon, as much criticism as she gets, was born to be a rock frontwoman. She has long built her technique for that hardcore rock style. It just so happens that main vocalists and lead vocalists have to share parts. I feel like their company should give SuA more obvious lead vocalist parts because surprisingly SuA has also developed a technique that is not unlike Siyeon (sometimes even better and safer) for those hardcore parts (for reference listen to all the Bon Voyage choruses and the bridge). Yoohyeon is an R & B powerhouse in the industry (reminds me alot of SM main players like red velvet aespa and SNSD vocal lines) and her voice while declining in power and reach up there still remains the most embellished voice in DC. I hope their producers get to utilize her voice properly as she recovers her upper power (also because DC dont take too long of a break between comebacks and are the most consistent group since debut in terms of comebacks and also because they tour alooooooooot so the girls are constantly touring) that concludes my love letter to Yoohyeon's voice and i wish her a speedy recovery
Yeji went from being at around Jisoo and Jennie’s level to rivaling Lia which is pretty insane for someone who seems to be getting no substantial training
@@DeeDeeDeeeee hmm... i still think that its bcz she have a lot of vocal lines and she always sing live so i think that helped her to little improve, and i still think that she is not that far from jennie and jisoo
@@BP-tm6ye she’s not super far from them but she has a consistent sense of support within the range of around A3~G#4, where as Jennie’s is inconsistent (just like the rest of her singing), and Jisoo’s chestiness/nasality causes too many issues and blocks her from having healthy placement. Them ranked would be around: 1: Yeji Slight Wall 2. Jennie 3. Jisoo If you’re going entirely off of optimal placement and not consistency.
They both have vibrato but to different degrees. Yoohyeon might be putting pressure on herself to be able to harmonize with Siyeon on a higher than comfortable range though.
the comparisons just went kinda wrong, for the encore clips, i think there is problem with her in-ear, she could not hear herself and have to make some arrangements for that instead of higher notes. Maybe she does put more pressure on herself, but she is not mimicking Siyeon. Dude just show 3 clips without any proper or even detailed explanation and comparisons. So his argument here, are some what invalid And yeah, this guy really had beef with Siyeon, kept on saying she will lose her voice in the past, long time ago, and yet i havent seen that happened yet, she just keeps singing better and better ( and now he is saying Yoohyeon trying to copy Siyeon, hypocrite). I mean, go watch the certified Sir Austin guys, hear what he always say and praise Dreamcatcher with proper knowledge, there are some critique as well, but dont listen to this
Lol, this guy literally pulls out a once in a while moment when Yoohyeon had a problem with her inear when she was misleading by the chear and the inear melody. A lot of moments in recent concerts proved that she has improved, especially during Reason. Also this guy tend to disminish Siyeon vocal a lot when she sings in her own style. I have yet to any problem with Siyeon voice and she keeps improving over the last 10 years. Let they have their rock style singing. Don't be afraid.
@_PhungLeHoangNgoc yoohyeon is fine but sometimes siyeon has strained herself in recent times. I feel that Siyeon sometimes struggles to hit hugh notes cleanly but that's it. I feel that the new producers don't know her strengths at times and are giving siyeon hard notes that she cannot reach properly. But again everything else siyeon excels at.
poor yooh, i think dc’s constant touring since 2022 and her drop in mental health since 2020 (which has reportedly caused her to vape) has had and is still having visible negative effects on both her singing dancing and physical health. wishing her the best ❤
👆 Yeah, I think she's is internalizing a lot of stress. She's engaging in behavior that is not healthy the past few years it seems. Wish she figures it out.
Idols need to be seen as more than merely the face of a company’s music. The KPOP Industry HAS to start taking idols more seriously because as it stands idols can’t even do solo work.
I grew up singing as a hobby in a couple of different environments. Projection was my biggest issue, but I always made sure to focus on technique. On the other hand there were vocalists in my circle who got a lot of positive attention from relying heavily on belting even when technique wasn’t present, so hearing healthy criticism of vocals such as Jennie’s and Yeji’s were kind of validating for me. Of course I wish them all the best.
Jennie's voice is very versatile and unique, I think that if YG trained her like JYP trained NMIXX vocally, she would be one of the most unique voices, the thing is, I imagine a high note with her tone of voice... Come on YG! Do not miss this opportunity! You have a talented girl who could perfect her vocals I also think that Nayeon should be in this video, I know that some cases are from about 3 years ago, but in some encores she has difficulty reaching high notes, and when she reaches them, they sound very flat or broken
I've always doubted NMIXX's vocal training. Becuse how much of it is actually JYP Entertainment's training and how much of it is the members already having good vocal training before they came to JYP?
@@Snstsnst Not hard to believe considering she's more of a Rapper in the group. I'm sure being in a group with Haewon and Lily, who seemed to have already been good vocalists before training at JYP, helps too.
Yes Nayeon may have difficulty reaching high notes but she sings just fine in her comfortable range. Yes she could be better but not as bad as you think. Most people in this video clearly even struggled at notes that are supposed to be in their comfortable range.
I think none of them will go to the coach . Most of them are idols for 6-7 years already . They are successful, they have busy schedules for ads, fashion, projects etc . Maybe they don’t care about vocal lessons. They are comfortable with their weak voices
Love this video so much! please, can you make a video about how HYBE tries so hard to make "live vocals" with so much production? I just heard the "perfect night live performance" on VEVO and that sounds so perfect to be live, but also has a lot of elements of real vocals, so I´m really confused about how far that company goes instead on invest on good vocal training...
For live vocals... I go to encores because honestly they are incredible hard to find, specially for SM and some Hybe artists, and specifically for JK of BTS I go to his lives were he spend hours singing.
Live performances have unfortunately never been "live". SM definitely brought about that trend though it's just that HYBE's vocalists have been less than average (usually) so people take more notice of it. Radio shows, fancams during sound checks, encore stages, and livestreamed singing sessions are really the only way to hear them but even then it's sometimes tuned (not the videos, but the actual mics). HYBE needs to invest in basic vocal training for their idols cause it's a shame to see so much potential underutilized and untrained.
Hybe needs Jungkook to be their vocal teacher and teach them how to be stable 😅 But the thing about JK is that its obvious that he is passionate about singing. I wonder if other idols are too. If they are not then they won't improve. And edit: Yeah SM passed me off with encore stages that are impossible to find and starting the trend. Even lip synching a lot even tho they have a lot of amazing vocalists. Now this is just a trend for all the comlanies
This is the first time I’ve actually heard someone talk about Jisoo in such a respectful manner. A lot of times that’s not how things are done with a lot of KPOP stans. Usually it’s find something wrong now everyone attack attack attack make it out the be most horrific thing ever like they are doing to Lesserafim right now. They’ve made Jisoo out to be this sad excuse of a singer when the girl can actually sing like she is a vocalist at the end of the day. I really do hope that a lot of idols who need it not just the ones listed in this video take the time to actually invest in taking that next step & becoming a better vocalist. I never seen anything wrong with Jisoo’s voice only when she goes into the higher register especially so quickly like in “Flower” then that’s when things get shaky for her.
Its a personal liking but i never get interested to anyone vocal in kpop as i did with jisoo, and my upmost regret is how she has potential but seems to never truly embraced it. She is growing, her vocal did getting stronger but her technique is NG. I hope she could finally manifest herself more after getting out from YG.
I watch jisoo vocal show case regularly she is definitely improving But I hope she also rest well cause she is doing 2 acting projects, brand deals and also preparing her solo hope she will be healthy
@@BP-tm6ye I said what I saw on the basis of that I am watching many videos about it to understand whether she is improving or not so I can definitely say that she is improving
@@BP-tm6ye how you know she didn't want to be an idol before snow drop she done many covers if she is not interested in music or being idol then never do any music cover and also even though she have 2 acting projects still she is working on her own music We should wait and see what she do after the release of her drama and movies also there is chance that she can sing OST
Jisoo has a good voice but she does nees a bit of vocal training to be real. She has one of the most beautiful voice but she needs good amount of vocal training, a voice like hers shouldnt go to waste beacuse its beautiful and if she trains to explore different aspect of her voice she would kill it
The problem is the girls were more or less in charge of their own training around one or two years after debut. Idols are not regular employes, they are partners with their agencies, depending on their contract the agency can be on charge of their training (something I doubt that it is maintained after the idols debut) or it become the idol responsability to train and develop their own vocals techniques and musicality in exchange of a bigger part of the gains of their activities. In case of huge succesful groups like BP, BTS, EXO, Red Velvet, Stray Kids or Seventeen or even medium succesfull groups like Kard, the agency can lend the instalations and instrumental but it is up to the idol to hire a vocal coach and a music teacher if they want to improve. Some do that, actually even in SM the main vocalist from second gen had to have their personal teachers paid by themselves, something they have talked about it, and some idols from third gen have mentioned that to, new idols have yet to reach that stage so... If BP members wanted they could have done it in the pass, still they can do it now because the resourced were there for they to have the proper training.
Actually rosé seems to be doing some vocal training, because her quality was getting sm better in the born pink tour. And she supported head voice and the 5th octave (and she's less nasal now so like)@@belaytriks
I did find it interesting how Jennie has stated that they were not trying to become perfect singers/dancers. They were just wanting to show that they could grow and show that they have an all or nothing attitude. and provide a shocking performance for their audience. “Before going on stage, rather than thinking about things like, ‘What if I’m not in tune,’ I think of how I’m going to shock everyone sitting out there” - Jennie
@@DicePandaCreationz That is nice but you need skills and practice for that. One of the bigest piano master of the modern times once made more or less this reflection when asked about his skills: "every day I have to practice my scales and chord, one day I do not practice I can notice, one week my mother can notice, one month my manager notice, it is the the diligence of my practice that lies my capacity to play" It is in the practice and improvement of one craft were you can find the genius. Da Vinci himself used to said geniality is 10% talent and that genius spark and 90% diligent work and practice. With all respect, that answer sounds like pretty excuses for her lack of practice, a dancer that does not practice lost flexibility and skills, a singer always do their best performances in the middle of a tour because their vocal chords get in perfect form before becoming tired. You do not improvice a show, you plan it to be great, foresee any dificulty, practice until you know every single piece of it so when you can go on to the stage knowing you are ready to rise above any challenge it arise because there is always something you did not think and will have to solve in the moment in base to your skills and capacities that you have honned with time and patience. Rose knows that if the music goes off she can still sing her hearth out to enchat her audience because she has practiced and do not need the music nor the support of the back track, she has many skills to enhance a song because she has acquired them trought practice over the time. Lisa knows that she can nail their choreographies everytime because she has practiced, and if for some reason she have to alter it, she knows many ways to adapt because she have many skills to do it because she has practiced them. You can pull once, twice or maybe even more stages without having to practic but in one moment you will make mistakes that could be avoided, the quality will not be the same than some to had polish his/her skills for the same stage and charms will not always cover ones mistakes nor lack of skills, that is what happened to her in their tour. It is good she thinks how to charm her public and have the confidence in her to know she will nail it but, her body needs to be ready and trained to do what she wants, when she wants and as she wants any time she wants and that is only achived trougth practice.
100% all of this. I really appreciate someone who can correctly identify and detail the things these idols need to work on. It shocks me that some of these idols have been in the industry for so many years and fail to really excel vocally. I wish the industry would prioritize singing ability and intense training...for everyone. I feel like too many production companies, idols, and fans are fine with idols being vocal one-trick ponies.

Yeji seems to have improved since Lia's departure (check out Ringo live and also her performance on Lee Munjin's service), but yeah I think she's maxed out as far as what JYP can offer.
ooh.. that would be bad... hopefully not. Cos they are likely to get them with DC music style and what Yoohyeon especially has to do to match Siyeon's vocals
@@DREAM-re2up Don't worry. Everyone needs to practice, especially cause their songs keep getting much more difficult since Reason came out. Jennie's singing clips from early training days are much better than her current singing imo. Sadly, like the majority of YG's group members, she's been trained to do that choppy annoyed/angry texture-style method of singing and rapping. If she unlearns that and takes full control of her voice, I think she could be on the level of Rose, Nmixx, Aespa...She's very pleasant to listen to, when she actually sings.
It makes me sad when I see these idols struggle trying to sing their lines, like I could feel the pain on the Yeji, Yoohyeon, and specially the Taehyun clips you've feature on this vid series.😩 It makes me want to drink water and suck on some halls.😭 Those 3 idols have lovely vocal tones, just wished they were properly trained.
if itzy got proper vocal coaches they would EXPLODE with talent and skill!!!!!! i love them already but man it’s such a disservice to them to keep them singing material they dont yet have the technique for, which just reinforces their bad habits
I do wish they would get lessons... but I dont really see it when their fans say 'there is no issue' basically and some even claim vocal lessons are all 'on the company' - which I never agreed with, especially if the idol in question is an adult and has been around for a while (2 years or more in my opinion). But well, let's hope for the best.
You should check out Mingyu from DKZ! He is known as the top male vocalist of the 4th gen, and I would love to hear your thoughts on him. I personally believe his low notes and his occasional but present airy singing style are an issue. I suggest giving a listen to his cover of Ahn Ye-Eun's 'Magic Lily' and '홍연' by the same artist. As well as his cover of Lee Juck's 'Laundry.'
@@via45 sorry, but she her technique is weaker than yeji's, she also loses in to her in intonation sense of pitch and stability, for example. But I think her and yeji have a pretty similar case with great potential but underwhelming technique
Ending the video with (G)I-DLE is perfect. Shuhua never stops working on improving her vocal skills and is a good example of an idol who always works to continue to improve vocally, whilst being surrounded by strong vocalists and an excellent producer who help her along the way. (It's actually part of why I'm a Shuhua stan- her hard work is so admirable)
He also chose out of context clips of Siyeon multiple times and has a vested interest in spreading misinformation about DC’s vocal skill; embarrassing for the people that fall for it, but what can you do
I think that when it comes to Jennie, her singing abilites are pretty amazing CONSIDERING she never trained to be a vocalist. Rapping is her forte and it's painfully obvious. In other words, for a main rapper, she's good. Tho as you said I hope she improves now that she can do what she wants.
Shes also a lead vocal, not only a main rapper, so your argument doesnt make sense, for a lead vocal she is just not good, girlie has more vocal parts than rap parts, so there is no excuse
@@heyafindfunThere IS excuse since she wasn't supposed to be vocalist and we know that based on their predebut videos and their debut songs. She was literally forced into that position. Why was she forced? Because Lisa can't sing for shit. ALSO, we know for a fact that Jennie was specifically trained to be a rapper. She said so herself. She also said that she only started singing after their debut.
Jennie said herself she wanted to sing she didn't want to rap. Don't blame Lisa for Jennies inability to sing when that's what she wanted to do. She wanted to rap, got bored, wanted to sing, fails miserably at it. But Lisa is the issue?
@@brownie3275 None of that is true or makes sense. So somehow they gave Jennie a vocal role and she had no idea she would need to sing by the time debut rolled around. By that logic, what would be Jisoo’s or Rosie’s excuse? Because they all have vocal issues. What did they train for, did none of them know they would be getting vocal roles? Did jennie not get features singing on G-dragons song before debut. That didn’t happen over night or out of nowhere. So Jennie gets a vocal role and actively decides to sing even more than she already was and it’s Lisa’s fault she has vocal issues? What? She said she wanted to sing more and they let her, why couldn’t she work on her vocals then? Her intonation, vowel placement, projection, and stamina are less consistent than Lisa’s, but according to your logic that is also Lisa’s doing not the adult woman with agency and is very vocal about what she wants. How about we stop absolving idols from doing their jobs.
BLACKPINK are aware they are not the best idols, Jennie said this in that baemon video. And with the way things are going after they left YG I feel like it was YG's fault. They were made to focus on fashion shows instead of practice live singing, I have hope in BP that they will get better.
for Jennie it's such a shame that she was told to become a rapper and didn't have much opportunity to train her singing fortunately she said she's going to more focus about her vocal now (on dua lipa podcast)
There's absolutely nothing incorrect or wrong with saying idols have potential, but honestly EVERYONE has the potential to be a GREAT singer. While there are non technical aspects, singing is primarily a skill that can be practiced correctly and healthily. EVERYONE has the potential to sing, and sing WELL. Which is to say, every idol can and should learn to sing, no one really is hopeless
Yes but I do think this video points out some singers who really make you feel like they have wasted potential because they've somehow gotten so far based on pure intuition but are limited by other factors. It's not that kpop companies shld give up on everyone else, but if we had resources I wld be giving them to Yeji
I don't know anything about vocal, but as Yeji's fan what's happening to Yeji really pains me. Sometimes, I write under their videos "With such power in her vocal, imagine if she has better technique" in hope they (JYPE) will train her vocal more. Their (Itzy) love to perform should be supported not only by their dance, their stability in singing but also their vocal. They have weak vocal technique, but look at their performances, they always give their all to the fans.
You are so right for Sihyeon. She has a lot of moments where she sounds fantastic (her covers from both the US and EU tour) but also quite a few where she is off. Honestly all members in EVERGLOW have really great vocal moments and not all that good moments. Yuehua really needs to plan in more proper vocal classes for all 6 girls. They would be such a great vocal group with amazing dancing if YH would just pay more attention.
Yeji is really good vocalist getting to high notes and was the unknown weapon of jyp and was the number one trainee before she debuted, she´s NOT a BAD voalist, she´s one of the best vocalist of 4th gent
As a singer when she do hight note she is not singing she is screaming😅 so when you say she is one of the best 4th gen vocalist it make me going mad so if it make you happy or not she is not really a great vocalist she just have an hight voice (proof:we never hear vibrato when she sing compared to all of the good singer)😊(i'm not her for being rude just here to talk truth)
As an Itzy fan I would love for Yeji to get vocal training because she has an amazing voice, she's clearly comfortable in the higher register, and she is definitely not tone deaf, it's just about control. I'll always be puzzled by the fact that idols undergo insane training for multiple years, allegedly practicing for hours and hours on end yet they rarely excel at what they do except for the few who are either very good dancers, or those who already had good vocals prior to training. Maybe if you're not gonna let your idols train correctly you could at least let them get some more rest. Unfortunately, I doubt this will happen because it seems to be a very big thing in South korea. They seem obsessed with putting in the hours, working for such a long time but not actually being that productive.
Youngeun is considered the second Main Vocalist in Kep1er. She auditioned and was training to be a rapper and main dancer before Girls Planet. When Kep1er debuted, she started taking regular vocal lessons and has made improvements, especially post-Queendom.
With her current technique, she about at Yeji's technical skill level. So it's good that she (along with other members of Kep1er such as Bahiyyih, Yeseo, and Chaehyun) are continuing to take vocal lessons when they can.
Yep. She's really impressive considering how she has very basic training. But I'm scared it'll damage her voice and since kepler is a temporary group I don't think they're giving her training...
@@cintajohnson3460 They're not. The members take vocal lessons outside of W1 with a professional trainer on their own dime. Youngeun, Bahiyyih, Chaehyun and Yeseo are the members who have publicly stated that they're taking vocal lessons. As long as they keep it up, I see great development in their future!
Thank you for mentioning Jennie. I listened to You and Me and hated her vocals. I expected better. She has potential. I was impressed by her when she worked on GDragon’s work. I don’t understand the inconsistency.
I know this probably seems like a random request, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Denise Kim's vocals. She was the original main vocalist of a nugu group called Secret Number, but she still releases music and does covers on her own now. She originally trained under YG, and I think she's extremely skilled at what she does.
I agree with the Yeji one so much like if you listen to ITZY's recent Japanese realeses style and ringo you can she's screaming on top of her lungs and it honestly sounds bad
What did you expect, Jennie focus’s on rap 💀 Jennie only lacks vocals not because she’s unable to do so but because YG asked her to train in rap and not vocals. Which is why she’s the main rapper yet in songs she gets 0 raps. It’s unfair to her IMO
Not everyone idols have the same mindset like 9 members of exo ,some riding their popularity, some are lazy and some just dont give a fuck about vocals when they can be prada and gucci ambassadors..
If you were to make a comparison between bae of nmixx and Jennie . What would you point out? I'm asking because to me they have about the same unique tone that kinda suits genres like jazz. Now about bae, there's very little amount of material to be compared to her senior Jennie's material. But since they have similar style of vocals I feel like bae delivers better (probably jyp is highly involved and encouraging of nmixx's unique tones in the studio and performances) in comparison to Jennie (as she was mostly trained to be an all rounder in yg. she excels in kpop rap, performance and stage presence but vocally she doesn't sound like she probably intend to sound like) Do you get what I mean? Anyways it would be good to know your thoughts on this comparison bc imo they seem to be on the same track despite being in different generations.
They do have a very unique toned with each other, but I’m going to have to say I would not compare these two together. First off Jennie has been in the spotlight for longer. She’s had more years of training on her, and she has actually admitted that she has no she’s not one of the best singers. She also comes from YG entertainment, which has a different styling of music than the styling of JYP. Both companies train their idol and completely different ways.
Jennie - 1996- Trained 5 years 11 months (2010-2016) Main Rapper, Lead Vocalist Jennie was originally wanting to be a vocalist but because she was one of the few that spoke English very clearly they put her in the rapping position so she concentrated on her rapping throughout training years. I do hope since she is now in her own company she will improve, or grow more into her singing voice. BAE- 2004- Trained 4 years (2018-2022) Vocalist and dancer With Bae, being younger and less experienced means that we can continue to watch her grow and improve, which, in my opinion she has since their debut. There is so much more growth she can do in the next five years to reach her seven year mark so it will be interesting to see how much she grows.
Agree with Jennie. her recorded voice sounds good, so the raw materials are there. she can put out hit after hit after hit in records. But live vocals (without help of backtrack) is really wobbly and you could see from her facial expression how she's trying and struggling with her breathing, and from time to time, go off key. So some training would help if she wants to be seen as a live singer (but if that's not one of her goals and just wants to be a successful recording artist, then I don't think the fans care much).
Despite me agreeing with most of the video, everything was so predictable and that's because we talk about female idols flaws all the time on every social media. I'd like to see more of this kind of videos for male idols
yea tbh we already know these people need. vocal lessons but there are a lot of under appreciated and overrated male idols in terms of vocals i wish he would talk about them too
I saw dreamcatcher like 2 months ago...Yoohyeon was doing better than the clips shown but I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by the whole group in certain vocaly more demanding songs except siyeon...It was a okay show overall.
All of blackpink members need proper vocal training. Yes all their voices are unique and iconic, but THEY COULD BE THE ACTUAL BEST WITH PROPER TRAINING without sounding they are struggling.
I have absolutely no knowledge of vocals but jennie sounds more nasally to me than jisoo a lot of the times and it doesn't make her voice seem appealing to me. I'm not hating on her btw I'm just wondering why that happens.
I was surprised to see sihyeon here since she's the best vocalist in the group. But i do agree tho they still need proper vocal training. Surely they can show some improvement especially looking back at how sihyeon show her improvement duringa la di da and first.
I also forgot to mention that many blinks say that Jisoo has that voice since she is a mezzo-soprano. Actually I think she's more like an undeveloped soprano, like most female idols, since Jisoo does not have that tone of voice of mezzo-sopranos (think of Adele or Miley Cyrus) and, as you say, a throat tension it's very noticeable
If these idols hanged out with any of RBW groups they would get better. Or simply get vocal lessons at the company. Literally every single idol that has come out of that company has an amazing voice.
This is what happens when you prioritize concept and style over skill. Groups that manage to do both are some members of Exo, Aespa, and Red Velvet (at least Seulgi and Wendy, Joy could also catch up)
Honestly, I genuinely think that Yeji is the best vocalist of Itzy and I will stand 10 toes on that. She has the most live stability which shows that she’s not only good at singing standing or in the studio. I do believe that she has better technique than the others as well. But you are right, that doesn’t mean much in JYP. They’re notorious for having good vocalists w/ bad technique. I’m convinced NMIXX came into JYP knowing how to sing. There’s no way Lily, Haewon, and Sullyoon learned THAT at JYP
Agree with the last lines about NMIXX. You can't say that Yeji has better technics while it's obviously Not You can't deny that Lia's notes is healthier and her support range is higher than Yeji's one
@@Devil-t9h4x Lia strains a lot live tho. And she is often less stable despite already minimizing the moves during her solo parts (not talking about her skill level, there’s nothing wrong with it a lot of main vocalists do that). Yet she still struggles more live than Yeji does which is a sign of poor technique. Yeji strains as well, but it stable able to be pretty stable while sounding good more often than not. This is a sign of greater stability. I’m not saying Yeji is far superior or that Lia is terrible, just that Yeji has slightly better technique. All of Itzy, all of JYP tbh outside of NMixx, needs better vocal coaches to help with technique. Their vocalists are not bad by any means, but they lack a little technique wise
@@Devil-t9h4x is her support range higher or wider? Higher doesn’t really mean anything when you factor in that even two people with the same amount of range can have different ranges (ex: you and I could healthily sing in all of 2 octaves yet I could be an alto while you’re a soprano)
Judging by the hint, maybe the next video is another in defense of pop vocals, but the kpop version? Ik rose was there in that video, but there are a lot of other vocalists in the kpop industry, and a lot more cases Just speculation
To me it seems like Yoohyeon’s voice’s comfort areas has changed (probably lowered) especially since even though she’s putting a lot of vocal effort into singing the lines they sound is still quite small and lacking in projection
She sounds great in concert-I was in the front row and could hear her under their backing track. Deliberately collecting her worst clips and calling it “critique” is just the usual kpop stan garbage
I love Yeji’s voice, can you imagine if she was given a top vocal coach what she’d be able to achieve
If I was them I'd ask Lilly to train me.
ryujin too!! her voice in mr. vampire has potential i think
Ryujin too. Every time I hear her sing, I think about how lovely her voice would be if they showed her how to use it

I am just here thinking if these idols spent a year getting vocal training at SM academy, they could fix all their issues. A few of these idols just need better breath control and support
I mean, look at the 4th/5th gen idol main vocalist, lots of them were sm trainees 😂
@@uc6758 The main vocalists at SM were already professionally trained before they became trainees at SM. Something that fans aren’t aware of. The key to become a good vocalist is to get vocal training before entering the industry because you can’t rely any label to train properly because the industry overall is indifferent to it
@uc6758 like who, for how long did they train and why did SM reject them?

Second, not everyone is like Baekhyun (who still takes vocal lessons despite being top Vocalist) or seungmin (who wanted to improve himself).

Yoo struggled during maison so bad and I think it's unfair because she pushes herself a lot

So unless they want to have their solo careers (which I don’t think they showed much interest in), they are doing full justice to their parts in the group songs, so I don’t think they need to do anything more than what they are doing now.

i love how Yeji is slowly but surely improving.

Also I think she vapes? Which has a considerable effect on her vocal stamina
poor yooh, i think dc’s constant touring since 2022 and her drop in mental health since 2020 (which has reportedly caused her to vape) has had and is still having visible negative effects on both her singing dancing and physical health. wishing her the best ❤

You have a talented girl who could perfect her vocals
I also think that Nayeon should be in this video, I know that some cases are from about 3 years ago, but in some encores she has difficulty reaching high notes, and when she reaches them, they sound very flat or broken
I've always doubted NMIXX's vocal training. Becuse how much of it is actually JYP Entertainment's training and how much of it is the members already having good vocal training before they came to JYP?
@@goldyd144Jiwoo (one of the members) stated that she had no idea how to sing before she joined JYP so I doubt it
@@Snstsnst Not hard to believe considering she's more of a Rapper in the group. I'm sure being in a group with Haewon and Lily, who seemed to have already been good vocalists before training at JYP, helps too.
yes i agreed its painful to hear nayeon belts
the only good belter in twice i would say jeongyeon
jihyo is good only in 4th octave
Yes Nayeon may have difficulty reaching high notes but she sings just fine in her comfortable range. Yes she could be better but not as bad as you think. Most people in this video clearly even struggled at notes that are supposed to be in their comfortable range.
Ugh I want JYP to give Yeji a great vocal trainer SO BADLY. There’s so much potential there. AND JYP IF YOU DO NOT LOWER THOSE FKN KEYS I SWEAR
Yeah. I said in one insta reel that it's not live and all the fearnots started attacking me😂.
Oh my gosh-yes!! I would love a video on this. It’s insane how much HYBE goes out of their way to cover up the lack of actually training their idols.
Hybe needs Jungkook to be their vocal teacher and teach them how to be stable 😅
But the thing about JK is that its obvious that he is passionate about singing.
I watch jisoo vocal show case regularly she is definitely improving
But I hope she also rest well cause she is doing 2 acting projects, brand deals and also preparing her solo hope she will be healthy
@@keyurinaik8093 i don't think she is improving tho in 2018-2019 she was better than now

Jisoo has a good voice but she does nees a bit of vocal training to be real. She has one of the most beautiful voice but she needs good amount of vocal training, a voice like hers shouldnt go to waste beacuse its beautiful and if she trains to explore different aspect of her voice she would kill it
I would love my four pinks had more vocal training, I know they have much more potential that YG wasted
@@belaytriks ohhhh, interesting, thank u for that context

I did find it interesting how Jennie has stated that they were not trying to become perfect singers/dancers. They were just wanting to show that they could grow and show that they have an all or nothing attitude. and provide a shocking performance for their audience.
“Before going on stage, rather than thinking about things like, ‘What if I’m not in tune,’ I think of how I’m going to shock everyone sitting out there” - Jennie
@@DicePandaCreationz That is nice but you need skills and practice for that.
One of the bigest piano master of the modern times once made more or less this reflection when asked about his skills: "every day I have to practice my scales and chord, one day I do not practice I can notice, one week my mother can notice, one month my manager notice, it is the the diligence of my practice that lies my capacity to play"
It is in the practice and improvement of one craft were you can find the genius.
I love how you all are talking this constructive criticism very positive in the comments. We really need to have more of these type of conversations rather than just straight up defending idols because they’re our biases or we Stan them. These are all for their personal improvement and growth.

Yeji seems to have improved since Lia's departure (check out Ringo live and also her performance on Lee Munjin's service), but yeah I think she's maxed out as far as what JYP can offer.
Don't quote me but Yoohyeon has signs of nodules. This is exactly what Tiffany sounded like before she had hers diagnosed
Nodules?
Nodules in a second Dreamcatcher member would suck so bad. SuA had them and had to have surgery in 2018. 😢
ooh.. that would be bad... hopefully not. Cos they are likely to get them with DC music style and what Yoohyeon especially has to do to match Siyeon's vocals

How about we stop absolving idols from doing their jobs.
the mago instrumental got me feeling nostalgic😭💖

They have weak vocal technique, but look at their performances, they always give their all to the fans.
what about kazuha sakura dude literally bro they don't even try to sing they speak

I think youngeun of kepler also fits this category....i don't think she had much vocal training..
I know this probably seems like a random request, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Denise Kim's vocals. She was the original main vocalist of a nugu group called Secret Number, but she still releases music and does covers on her own now. She originally trained under YG, and I think she's extremely skilled at what she does.
Jennie has the biggest potential and i cant wait for her album
I agree with the Yeji one so much like if you listen to ITZY's recent Japanese realeses style and ringo you can she's screaming on top of her lungs and it honestly sounds bad
What did you expect, Jennie focus’s on rap 💀 Jennie only lacks vocals not because she’s unable to do so but because YG asked her to train in rap and not vocals. Which is why she’s the main rapper yet in songs she gets 0 raps. It’s unfair to her IMO
She herself said she prefers singing lol she even said she didn't want to rap
Ppl really pay $$$ to see people who can’t sing or dance. The KPOP industry is wild.
Can you make a vocal critique video on individual members of New Jeans?
Not everyone idols have the same mindset like 9 members of exo ,some riding their popularity, some are lazy and some just dont give a fuck about vocals when they can be prada and gucci ambassadors..
If you were to make a comparison between bae of nmixx and Jennie . What would you point out? I'm asking because to me they have about the same unique tone that kinda suits genres like jazz. Now about bae, there's very little amount of material to be compared to her senior Jennie's material. But since they have similar style of vocals I feel like bae delivers better (probably jyp is highly involved and encouraging of nmixx's unique tones in the studio and performances) in comparison to Jennie (as she was mostly trained to be an all rounder in yg. she excels in kpop rap, performance and stage presence but vocally she doesn't sound like she probably intend to sound like)
Do you get what I mean? Anyways it would be good to know your thoughts on this comparison bc imo they seem to be on the same track despite being in different generations.
They do have a very unique toned with each other, but I’m going to have to say I would not compare these two together. First off Jennie has been in the spotlight for longer. She’s had more years of training on her, and she has actually admitted that she has no she’s not one of the best singers. She also comes from YG entertainment, which has a different styling of music than the styling of JYP. Both companies train their idol and completely different ways.
Jennie - 1996- Trained 5 years 11 months (2010-2016) Main Rapper, Lead Vocalist
Jennie was originally wanting to be a vocalist but because she was one of the few that spoke English very clearly they put her in the rapping position so she concentrated on her rapping throughout training years. I do hope since she is now in her own company she will improve, or grow more into her singing voice.
BAE- 2004- Trained 4 years (2018-2022) Vocalist and dancer
With Bae, being younger and less experienced means that we can continue to watch her grow and improve, which, in my opinion she has since their debut.
It means teddy is doing a good job
Despite me agreeing with most of the video, everything was so predictable and that's because we talk about female idols flaws all the time on every social media. I'd like to see more of this kind of videos for male idols

All of blackpink members need proper vocal training. Yes all their voices are unique and iconic, but THEY COULD BE THE ACTUAL BEST WITH PROPER TRAINING without sounding they are struggling.
i'd love to see a video about the xdinary heroes vocal line - they're incredibly talented and you should check them out!

You can't say that Yeji has better technics while it's obviously Not
You can't deny that Lia's notes is healthier and her support range is higher than Yeji's one
@@samcarmen Yeji supports Bb3 ~ G#4 and Lia supports A3 ~ G#4/A4.
Judging by the hint, maybe the next video is another in defense of pop vocals, but the kpop version? Ik rose was there in that video, but there are a lot of other vocalists in the kpop industry, and a lot more cases
Just speculation
Someone knows what they’re talking about👀😘
To me it seems like Yoohyeon’s voice’s comfort areas has changed (probably lowered) especially since even though she’s putting a lot of vocal effort into singing the lines they sound is still quite small and lacking in projection
She sounds great in concert-I was in the front row and could hear her under their backing track. Deliberately collecting her worst clips and calling it “critique” is just the usual kpop stan garbage
I'd love to see a video about Vcha's vocals ❤
