I've loved this musical ever since I saw the movie as a kid, in fact it was watching the movie that made me realise I wanted to take part in musical theatre so it holds a special place in my heart, and no matter how many times I see this musical the final ten or so minutes never fail to reduce me to tears. This production of the stageshow looks like it would be every bit as good as the one I saw in Edinburgh a good few years ago, though I think I'd prefer how the production I saw handled the balcony scene where she sings don't cry for me Argentina. In the version I saw they somehow had the balcony move forward so it was practically hovering over the audience during that moment, it made you feel like you were one of her crowd of supporters watching her speech.
I’m impressed! After 40 years of production shows they finally picked an actress that actually looks like Eva Peron...Patti Lupone is the best ever Evita but she didn’t look at all like Eva Peron...
@DJ You speak truth. Patti supported those notes all the way through. It's like listening to the entire phrase in surround sound vs on an iphone. No one comes close.
@@tiffdawn18 The best Evita I've seen, was Jacqui Scott in the early 90's tour, unfortunately never filmed. Acting and voice were both brilliant. I'll never forget het last note of High Flying Adored, a thunderous crescendo that left the audience stunned.
Emma Kingston’s voice is so sublime. Absolutely crystal clear and the acting to boot is just immense ... UGH I just adore her. Get her back centre stage of a theatre in the West End where she belongs! 👏🏻
I wish this could come to the US. Even though the only full version I've seen is the film, I've seen enough the Hal Prince production is the definitive one. At least the one with the least imperfections
I saw the original production in 1983 twice in the same week, with the 4th stage Evita, Siobhan McCarthy and her matinee stand in, Jacki Chappel. It blew my mind. There is a stern, almost brutal, aspect to the staging that suits the show so well. There are several recordings on UA-cam, some better quality than others, but nothing beats seeing it live. I hope you get to see it one day. Without "You Must Love Me" crowbarred in.
James. Are you serious? This staging is the definitive EVITS directed and staged with designs from the original London and 1979 Broadway production. There was a no unit set concept with small Dolly’s that would enter on and off with a unit of lighting in the floor. In act two a bridge flys in for the Casa Rosada. That is what makes this art and the recent 2012 bway revival trash with busy sets I think were inspired from the 1996 film to appease a younger clueless audience. The only thing that is wrong with this is the new orchestrations with YOU MUST LOVE ME should have been chopped. However this is the only material that is currently licensed. When I directed it in 2006 U must love me was chopped. Thank god we were able to also remove the 2006 dance orchestrations
I saw this production in Singapore last week, and I think you have to see it play out on stage live to see how the sets actually are quite smart and very effective, as compared to the Broadway revival one, and it just made more sense as compared to the staging they did on Broadway. The set made this show rather 3 dimensional, and it was very very interesting and it kept me interested and excited. It is really more than just a black box, its a very interesting staging and intriguing at times, this video doesn't really do it justice. Its not an "in-your-face" lavish set, but its one that once you see it will make you ponder after like "Hey that was smart“
musicaltheatergeek79 . Unimaginative? Ok, whatever you say. I buy tickets to be entertained, not to use my imagination. You obviously are very imaginative. Good for you. Go sit in a dark basement somewhere and imagine you are a worthwhile individual.
I was so happy when i got to the theatre and saw the "W" shaped lights on the stage floor with the circle in the middle, like oh its so good to see the original staging of EVITA. It has the passion that the show should have that the broadway revival didn't have
I'd love to see this show with its original staging and direction!! Hal Prince is a genius!! Just wish, you must love me was added to it. I don't feel it works on the stage. But it is a beautiful song. Just my personal opinion. I know many of you guys won t agree. But that's cool. It's good we all like different things xx
I went to see the Evita International Tour 2018. I spent 200 USD buying ticket and was looking forward to it. Somehow Emma Kingston did not perform in the show. I don’t know if it’s because there were not too many people at the theatre(it was a matinee), and they kept Emma for the later show on the same day. Anyway, the singer sang in that show(as Evita) sang badly, and didn't even take the show seriously. I was disappointed since I was expecting to hear Emma sing, and was mad that Emma did not go on stage and did not notice the audiences. The show was only okay.
It was the Understudy Eva...(wwtour.evitathemusical.com/cast/) 200 USD and did not see Emma Kingston? People at Kham Tickets(寬宏售票) also lied about it...
People from Evita International Tour 2018 did not respect the fans. They treated the audiences as fools. Thinking that no one would notice it was not Emma Kingston, but the Understudy Eva.
It was the Understudy Eva, not the Alternate Eva(google their meanings and difference if you don't know). So apparently they replaced Emma Kingston with the Understudy Eva because the theatre was only about half full. Emma was not ill nor had situations(not to mention that she's a professional and should avoid these kind of things), since she sang in the show later the same day.
Probably the best ever version is currently running in Melbourne with Tina Arena as Evita. Also the original Harold Prince staging just as this one. Only Tina Arena is a better singer and actress. And much better looking as well.
Juraj Kovac It’s the same production, it was just recast with local talent when they moved to Australia. And it’s not Hal Prince’s original staging. It feels like the 2006 revival masquerading as the original.
Indy Ella He was paid. He didn’t even direct the touring leg of the production, it was done by a stage manager from his notes, Hal didn’t really get involved until the production opened in Sydney.
@Thomas Dickinson and @ Amy Major This is so great to be cast in such a popular show!! You both must be very talented. It must have been so exciting to win the part. So great to put that on your resumes. Congrats!!
I actually like the song because I think it shows Eva’s heart. All through her life the only thing she wanted was to be loved. And I think this song open that up to the viewer. I understand pacing but I think it would be a shame to lose this viewpoint of Eva
@@princesslisamarie7860 If they used the original Lament as Eva is dying, there is a much more succinct insight which doesn't slam the brakes on the show: "The choice was mine and no-one else's I could have the millions at my feet Give my life to people I might never meet Or else to children of my own But remember, I was very young then Thought I needed the numbers on my side Thought the more that loved me, the more loved I'd be But such things cannot be multiplied Oh my daughter, oh my son Understand what I have done." @Doug R Yes there was. There was an intricate, mural collage type of painting on a cloth that was displayed at the top of the show and brought back again for intermission. I believe it was a depiction of social classes.
Baby Jane Hudson But that’s how she is supposed to be in Hal Prince’s version. She’s supposed to be a cold caricature of a social climbing bitch, she and the other characters are Brechtian props to Hal’s vision of the show as a brutal political satire.
