I made my first Mug Rug today. They are fun and quick to make. I like you can make them however big or small you want. I made mine on the this size. I like you can put a little bit of tasel on them or a lot. Would make cute neighbor gifts or little gifts for coworkers during the holiday season.
I add the fringe on the top and bottom, because the shape is closer to a rectangle than a square. I think if I made them square, the fringe would look better on the sides to give the bare edges a more finished look.
What kind of yarn should I use to make one of these I have sky blue 820 Lt. blue and it's 100% acrylic and someone said I had to use the cotton and it does look pretty bad thought please 🙏 let me know thanks jodie am new to your channel.
Hi Jodie, thanks for stopping by my channel! For the mug rugs, you can really use whatever fiber yarn you would like, but it does help to have a fiber that absorbs moisture if you are going to have cold drinks that sweat. I mainly use mine with my coffee mug, so the absorption factor isn’t important for me. Acrylic would work just fine for that.
Great video and easy to follow. Do you know who carries that brand of yarn?? What is the bright color that you are using- it is very bright and cheerful. Is that yarn 100% cotton?? Thanks for a great video. I have subscribed to your channel.
Hi Carla, thank you, and thanks for subscribing! The bright yarn that I used for the tutorial is the same yarn as the finished mug rug. They are both the Fireworks yarn from iceyarns.com and are 40% wool/60% acrylic. Ice Yarns is a company out of Turkey, and their prices are great, but their shipping is high. To me, it all evens out though, and you get your shipment in a week or less if you live in the US. They have very unusual yarn, but you never know what it feels like. If you look at Christa's videos at The Secret Yarnery here on UA-cam, she orders Ice Yarn exclusively and does a lot of reviews. She's great!
Hi Rikki, thanks for following my tutorial. Hopefully I can help troubleshoot. First, make sure you have 13 single crochet stitches and 11 chain-1 spaces per row. Each If your count is correct on every row, you might be making your chain-1 spaces too tight. You might have to go up one size for your hook if you are a tight crocheter. If you want to email me a photo of your progress where it’s curving, I can try to take a closer look. My email is thewipwindow@gmail.com. I would be happy to help!
Hi Melinda, sorry, I did not write out the pattern. The mug rug is made using the moss stitch and you can make it as wide and as long as you would like. Thanks in advance if you decide to watch the tutorial. Have a great day! 😊
if someone doesnt know how to make a slip knot, then they dont need to be here, Stop coddling these people. They need to at least know the basic 5 before they attempt a project - yes, even a mug rug.
Thank you so much for breaking things down with all of the information others leave out. I really appreciate you!

Are you putting the fringes on the top & bottom of your work or the sides? Thanks 😊
