I hate those Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon because I don't trust it at all.

@@jbb3design In my experience, they on their own barely do any good. I wonder if, legally, they can just be treated like normal flashing yellow lights... I suspect so. This light in the video was one of many that were part of an early initiative to make school crossings in Cheyenne safer where they occur along stroads/arterials like Pershing, but cars still don't stop, and it's not just this one. It may have been worse before the rrfb was installed, but it hasn't been much better with it.

How about we make safer streets with wide sidewalks and bike lanes instead of "expensive fancy high tech traffic lights"?

Those are more expensive than fancy traffic lights and people tend to feel entitled to free parking and widening sidewalks and adding REAL BIKE LANES divided by curbs and not a stripe of paint inevitably eat into street parking and makes a certain kind of ghoulish old lady pissed at the city government for having to walk 10 extra years ago get to her needlepoint meetup in the library

@@ximatum7233 That. Yep. The HAWK will perform infinitely better than the flashy yellow rrfb, but cars will still exceed the speed limit, posing much more risk to pedestrians. The current temporary light... while traffic still goes at a good 30 mph and peds must go beyond the curb to push the button... seems to be working for peds much better, plus reducing crossing distance.
