They do lots of facial expressions as part of their choreography. They are talented actresses as well as singers and dancers.

I love these more playful songs in their catalogue, they are great fun. And they are the kind of music that you don't hear from any other band.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this very performance at the venue with ear-to-ear smile and painful hands (too much hand clapping 🤣) "Yava!" is a expression used in a situation where you are about to screw up something. Or you have just done it 😄 .
Musical diversity in what BABYMETAL is relentlessly pursuiting. "Yava" is apparently based on Jamaican "Ska" music genre. That is just one of various and delicious food that BABYMETAL can offer. Yava is a Latin flavored dish in the "Plats du jour" served that night (Mar.3, 2024).
The dish was covered with a glaze of tasty solos by Chris, CJ, Clint and Anthony (virtuosity !!) then a delicious mass showed up. We just enjoyed the entire plate prepared with seasoning called "happiness" and spice called "surprise". That is truly addictive habit of eating. 😍

Great reaction ... a lot of their songs are open to interpretation, I certainly wouldn't argue with what you were saying here.
This is another of those songs where they have mixed or blended another musical style (in this case Ska) with the metal.🤘

    Nice one, thanks!
"YAVA!" is one of my favorite songs. For some reason, the ska mixed with metal totally works for me.
Although the lyrics are pretty much obscure (As mentioned) I believe that the song is about being, acting and, most important, being perceived as "different" in a culture where not looking and acting like everyone expects is seen as weird (in a bad way). The word "chigau" (they say it a lot) means "different" and also "wrong". And saying it with the repeated hand gesture they do in front of the face means that something is not acceptable. So, you are right and it could be related to their own history, not being a "normal" or "usual" band at all and not doing things the way everyone else does.

Great reaction! It ended a little bit early, I believe? 😉Yeah, I think you´re spot on with your interpretation of the lyrics. As Ganimal83 said already, some of us think it´s their kind of showing the Metal gatekeepers the middle finger, but in a humoristic way. Enveloped in talking about the trouble some people have with the differences other people see with two or more things, while these things all look the same for themselves.
"They are too different, so I am at a loss." is the core sentence to support our interpretation, I believe.
I love this song so much! 😄 It was some time since they performed "Yava!" live. IIRC, last time was at the "Legend Metal Galaxy" concert in 2020. Maybe that´s why the crowd went a little bit nuts 😄 Momometal´s and Moametal´s facial expressions during this are glorious🤣 Momometal even did some out of the choreography. She´s really good with that!

Hell yeah man! I love this song! Kami band solos, their performance, the eclectic Ska-infused sound, and the bad a$$ breakdown.
Also, your interpretation is dead on! I also think this is Babymetal’s wholesomely rogue-ish middle finger to the early elitist haters who couldn’t accept them because they were different. So, they made an eclectic and unique song about “not knowing how to feel about something different, oh no!” Haha.
And, IMO, the “pippo pappo pii” is kinda like “yaddi yadda” etc, in English. Hilarous 😂.

Definitely one of my favorites off of the 'Metal Resistance' album.
The official lyric is "ヤバッ!" (Yaba!), which is a clipped form of "yabai".
Originally, "yabai" meant "dangerous", but in this song and popular usage, it is also used as an exclamation.
"Oh no!" is a pretty good equivalent in English.
Even with a translation it's hard to know exactly what this song is about.
As Du-Metal says on his BABYMETAL lyrics translation site, "The meaning of the lyrics is vague, obscure & ambiguous." : )

Nice reaction. One of my personal favorites by Babymetal. They like to have their lyrics with multiple interpretations. While it can be about them being different. It can also be about while some say everyone else is one type of Metal. if you look closer, they're all a little bit different after all. putting everyone in their own lane. Next some have suggested that in the early days of Babymetal many folks had a hard time telling the difference between Yuimetal and Moametal. And the line about them being a little different is about them. It can also be about choice. Some may say it doesn't matter what you pick it comes out the same or your choices are actually them same. But as the songs goes if you look a little closer the choices are actually different. And making all these difficult choices is what Su can't stop thinking about. Babymetal got layers. The Foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

BM performed this song for the first time in a long time at that show. And with the intro by the Western Kami Band on the first time. Speaking of YAVA with intro, the show in Osaka in 2017 is well-known among the fans (and as also Yui's last stage...), but at that time it was with the Eastern Kami Band. The solos by the Western one in this show, they are diferent from the Eastern one, but so good. But the way the three ladie😊s came on stage is the same as in Osaka, and I am so moved.
The first half of the song is set to a light ska rhythm, and Su-'s singing, the choreography, and even Moa & Momo's facial expressions are all a bit comical in their delivery. But from the breakdown, it all goes dark and shouts about the anxiety of heart of girls. I think the scat, 'Rarara..', ‘parira fu...', and 'pippo pappo...’ are some kind of a metaphor for the theme of the song, ‘anxiety’ (←just a guess of mine, though), even though it expresses anxiety, the scat is a little comical, or even madness. That's good, too. It's a certainly 'Yabai' song. Thank you from Japan!

They are masters of the build ups and masters of the drop. They will just throw you off a cliff at times. Correct, they faced a lot of criticism and have a few songs that are a slap in the face to critics. One of the dance moves near the end they are punching with one hand and blocking with the other. So yeah, this song is one big FU to critics. Don't mess with the girls, they are Japanese and might stab you.

In terms of the lyrics there's more to it than just making a statement about the band. While it's true the band as a whole was facing some backlash about being "real metal" at the time, it's also worth mentioning that this song also came out while the girls were still quite young. Despite the music being metal, a lot of the lyrics in their earlier songs were related to issues that teenage girls go through. Translating some of the titles from Japanese, they already had songs like "Gimmie Chocolate", "Bubble [Gum] Fever", and "No More Bullying", and even their debut song "Doki Doki ☆ Morning" is essentially about feeling anxious getting ready for school. So while "Yava!" can certainly be seen as a statement about their place in metal music, it can also be read pretty directly as being about the anxieties of fitting in among peers and what it's like to feel different.

The fanbase has never reached consensus on what exactly is different, personally I think it is more about the feeling you have that things that appear to be the same might not be, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is and it drives you nuts. I used to paint houses and we had a client that could not choose between three colors that to everyone else looked exactly the same, she ended up in tears because she could not decide, later I found out that some women have the ability to see more colors than the rest of us can and I guess she was one of them

Yava! was also released pretty early, and at the time many where done from a young girls point of view.
I like to think it is about a girl trying to decide what to buy in a store, and she's not able to decide which, and her parents saying "they are the same". I like how as the song progresses she goes into more of a panic.
Remember my chidhood I can relate. But also as a software engineer, trying to figure out which of a couple of solutions is the best to use, it's a struggle.

The song is sung from the view of a metalhead, in the third person if you will. The metalhead believes that "they (Babymetal) are in some way a little different" and that "that's not acceptable." As a metalhead how can he accept BM as being metal because he believes by convention they don't fit the metal genre but he is having his doubts as he says "I can't stop caring about it. What should I do? Which side is that on? Which side is this on?" What he believes as not to be metal might actually be and that is driving him absolutely crazy.
Yava is kinda a middle finger to those who don't think BM should be in the metal genre and that is in my opinion as metal AF.
