Agree, I first used the envelope system back in the very early 80s when I got my first fulltime job and had to budget for my train ticket, clothes etc. I used old vegemite and jam jars at first. Cash stuffing looks like creating a bit of fun to get into the savings and if that helps someone save then that's great. It's not for me, far too many folders and junk that costs too much. I have seen a few channels that talk about making even the envelopes yourself from scrap materials and a cash holder from cereal boxes etc but the majority of channels are selling very expensive folders and unnecessary junk.

You reminded me of a funny memory. I was envelope stuffing when we went from dollar notes to coins. I was horrified when the teller gave me coins instead of notes. Coins do not sit well or keep safely in paper envelopes!!. My over 2m tall, 44 year old son wasn't even in school then. He was sitting on the bank counter as he wanted to see what was going on and he couldn't see over the counter.
Before that, I kept my money in old jam jars. That is, until one fell from the top of the wardrobe and smashed the beautiful jewelry box that my father gave me when I was a teenager. At 70+, I still have that jewelry box with the smashed top. But not that jam jar. 🙂

Thanks Cath for KISS. Young people these days like to give it a modern take on the name and process so that it sounds mystical or magical, and all of the colours and frills are to "make it their own". Good old-fashioned budgeting is simple - basic maths, a notepad and pen (I use exercise books - 25c each bought at a K-Mart sale about 20 years ago!), a calculator (if you are maths challenged), and commonsense (that's the one that appears to be lacking these days).

oh yes, those cash stuffing channel's are like a craft channel, reminds me of when i was at school and had a school diary and i used to prefer to set up my diary and do fancy things rather than doing the homework i wrote in it, playing with coloured pens was such fun 😂
