Checkout my other FM tutorials for more tips on how you can improve your Football Manager skills: ua-cam.com/play/PLQRYMrjbotkOxzAFYqJu5cJm0mBJS7Bvq.html Something that I didn't mention in the video, is that a lot of the top rated tactics on FM Arena are small variations of the same tactic. To prevent these tactics being over-represented in the results, I only counted the highest rated variation of a tactic
%44 asymmetric formations Narrow and central players not wide 4 defense %94 1 defensive mid %100 Advance Forward Attack %100 Sweeper Keeper Defense %100 Advanced Playmaker Attack %29 %74 Attacking Mentality, %26 Balanced Mentality Shorter Passing, Higher Tempo, Low Crosses, Run At Defense Counter, Counter-press, distribute quickly, roll it out %94 High Press Attack Line, Much Higher Defensive Line, Much More Often, Prevent Short GK Distribution, Get Stuck In %100
There are some roles where you need really good players relative to the league you are playing in, advanced playmaker is one of them along with inverted wingbacks. Regular wingers just need to be able to cross f.ex. and they will manage most of the times using one of the OP tactics, a playmaker will as the season progresses get marked and he needs the attributes to deal with this. Shadow striker is another role which really needs a player with the right stats, even in the lower leagues, a DM in defensive support can be anyone able to play that position and they will usually manage. The above explains why certain downloaded tactics simply don´t work for many gamers, if your advanced playmaker is getting marked and can´t deal with that you simply shouldn´t play with one, either download another tactic or change the role to be more versatile/ less focused.
Interesting video. Everyone should take this with a pinch on salt tho. I’ve just won the quadruple with Bournemouth in my fifth season playing slower football, standard defensive line and without getting stuck in on a positive mentality, which this video would advise as being against what works best
IFB on DEF doesnt work that well because the defensive line is too slow to create a 3 man line, with the offensive back using too much time to get higher up the pitch. So you get stuck with a 4 man line with only one player slowly creating a short offensive alternative on one side. The line is asymmetrical for way too long, so if you lose the ball during buildup you are very stacked on one side. The AI also seems to struggle with stopping counterattacks because of this. Even after having possession for a long while they players cannot properly decide who presses the ball carrier, who falls back to cover and how to properly position to reduce penetrative passes. To me it seems having just 2 CBs was actually better for stopping counters because the CB AI was miles better. If the backline could spread into a 3 early and actually play like 3 cbs with some intelligence it would be good.
Sure theres always these tactics that make the most of the match engine, or exploit certain things. But nothing is more fun to play to your teams strenghts, or create your own tactic from scratch and see your own team play good football, in your own style.
And that's the beauty of FM: it's all possible! More exploit-y tactics to optimize results, faithful recreations of real life tactics, self-made tactics to specifically suit your team: it all can be used according to what you as a player prefer!
@@coachroan I’m top of the league with an asymmetrical 4-2-3-1 with an inverted winger and believe it or not but it’s actually working a RDM in Right wing and a AP on A behind an advanced forward pass into space high line high press just beat points and goal record for liga 3 in Germany
Great video! When you say everyone are using a defensive mid and should use it. Do you mean the role defensive mid or do you include halfback or dlp on defend as defensive mid?
The point is, when everyone is so crazy about high-pressing, you need more players that are capable for releasing that press. That's where DM comes in.
You're absolutely welcome! And lucky for you, the next scheduled video will actually cover set pieces (although it probably won't be released this weekend unfortunately)
So boring, all the tactics have the same instructions, such as pressing high, high tempo and shorter passing. None of them show a direct defensive football or an attacking direct football. It's always the same
While this video shows that there definitely is a type of football that seems to work best, it certainly doesn't mean that other tactical approaches can't work as well! That's the beauty of FM: there's space for everyone to have their own approach to tactics. People that want to play the overpowered tactics to really play with the match engine can use these tactics, and the people who want to recreate real life tactics can win plenty of trophies as well!
I apologize, your videos are awesome. But I don't see too many approaches about playing defensive football. I know that offensive and high press football is more popular, of course. Are there broken tactics with this kind of instructions (low press, defensive)? I don't want to copy tactics, but to see how they work, because I'm struggling to make them work. But again, I want to thank you for bringing us this amount of info.
@@tomassavoretti9160Defensive Systems don’t really work well in FM. There’s a lot more ways to play more direct though, but with defensive football it’ll be a lot harder to actually put together. If you want to play just defensively solid football and hogging possession then I’d recommend trying 4 in the back systems, for counter attacking football, something like a 3-5-2 with defensive wingers, and for purely park the bus tactics I’d say a back five system. You can probably turn a 5 in the back into a crazy good counter attacking formation using the narrow tips in the video. Having two central strikers, and structuring your midfield however you see fit with the remaining players. But overall, defensive styles of play aren’t really that good in FM. As much as that sucks, that’s probably the beauty of actually figuring out one that works
It seems like especially this year outscoring your opponent is better than defending well. Found that attacking or even very attacking works better than positive or balanced and you sacrifising defensive stability is worth it, as my goals have vastly increased after putting my dms on supporting roles. Now just use 2 players on defend, 2 bpds
I would love to see that tactic! The easiest ways to send it to me would probably be via Twitter or Discord, both of which are linked in the description
The ratios I've calculated myself, taking all the highest rated tactics and analyzing what roles, formations and instructions they were using, to come to the ratios presented in the video
What a content. wow. Dude, why aren't you on twitch, doing rebuilds, playing live. you are a doctor of science for this game. Bravo. just keep going. Greetings 🎉❤
You're way too kind my friend! I would love to start streaming regularly, but I currently just don't have the time for it. Hopefully sometime in the future I can start streaming consistently though!
You can find new players for your national team via the Scouting screen. Any player that you might think could be anywhere near your main team or the youth teams can be added to the National Pool, where you'll get reports and updates on how these players are doing. From this National Pool, you can select players for your national team (if you don't see the option to select a player for the team, it probably means that you've already selected the maximum amount of players). Hope this helps!
I dont know what you see but AF is weak this year PF attack is better, also for the majority of the last years fairly wide with shorter passing and high tempo and low crosses was always the best to have. Ifb is a great role.
The PF can definitely be very effective, but the best tactics on FM Arena seem to all agree on the AF. Just goes to show that everyone will have their own perspectives on tactics in FM, which is exactly what makes this game great!
Before watching this: Getting sacked in a Deportivo rebuild after getting only 9 points in the second division After watching this: Consistent European places while predictes to get relegated with Queen's Park in Scotland
But none of these tactics are actually any good, and using the once again overpowered AF is extremely boring. Last year I tried some of the most hyped tactics and they all performed terrible compared to the ones I made myself. Interesting trends nonetheless, but none of them should be taken as fact. I mostly use positive and just finished a season with 180 goals and 8 against in the league, with a "normal" formation rather than trying to exploit the AI's lack of ability to handle asymmetric. 130+ goals and 15 or less against in every season. None of these downloadable tactics has ever performed that well for me
