  • In this Range Report I shoot and review the Sig Sauer P225-A1. This is a modern take on the old Sig P6. This is a single stack 9mm compact version of the P220. This was a gun originally designed for police use in Germany and now is offered in the U.S. as a civilian CCW firearm. However, this modern version does not allow magazine compatibility with the old P6 magazines. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences. Yours may vary.

    Just traded one of my P365XL pistols for a like new P225A1 with original box, docs and 6 mags and I love this pistol. I shoot it very well and the pistol feels great in my hand. I feel I made a great trade.

      Yes, you made an excellent trade. P365's are fine pistols, but the p225's definitely have a second-cool vibe.

    Great review but I was rather surprised that accuracy is not there for you. I along with most others that shoot my 225-A1 rave about how accurate it is to shoot the first time and even more so than other guns of the same size as you increase distance. I have the two tone model with the stainless steel slide, absolutely love it

    It’s a beauty, but yes! I do have the exact same concerns as you with mines.

    I’ve shot this gun twice at my local range (rental) and it has become my favorite Sig handgun. At 7 yards I can get tight enough groupings with it to where I’m satisfied. The feel in my hand, the balance (for an all-metal handgun) is great. The P225 A1 tells me what Glocks tell me when I handle them “it is plain GUN” no bells or whistles, just plain gun. With a after market red dot, checkered walnut grips, a lock leather holster from Urban Carry Holsters, a ten-round magazine. I could see this as a single-stack 9mm carry gun for me. That is one thing I almost forgot, I think I shoot this better as a single stack. I think with double stack 9mm handguns in a compact size, I have to put in more work for accuracy at 7 yards or higher.

    I have a P225. Felt the A1 when they came out and in the hand it felt the same. Mine was constructed of parts Sig had laying around at the end of the 225 run. Initially had issues with the trigger being stiff causing me to pull the shots. Sent it to Gray guns and they put a wider trigger in it and polished some surfaces. I changed the sights because I aim different than the way Sig has the sights set up. Now this is one of my most accurate guns I have. Also got different base pads for the magazines.

    I carried a 225 the last 2 years of my career as a LEO. I bought an A1 with wood grips and 3 dot sights and did not care for it. I was able to purchase my old 225 from my old department after a short time my sights went dark and it needed to be rebuilt. I bought an A1 with nightsights and G10 grips. I love the gun. I got some plus 1 baseplates and have threw one shot out in five years of qualifying for 218 carry. Like other have said you may get too much finger on the trigger. Happy Shooting

    I just got one last week. The grip and DA trigger is different from my other hammer fired guns. After one range session, I'd say it is accurate when the shooter does their job with a good sight picture and trigger stroke. The recoil impulse and muzzle flip is not too much for long range sessions. Use a laser cartridge for dry fire practice.

    I have had one for 5 years and I have experienced the same thing as you for me shooting it accurately. I also have an older p229 in forty that I shoot really well but I shoot a1 accurately enough. One might even say that it shoots mediocre groups. But it points naturally and it fits my hand like a glove. Having said all that I still carry it every day.

      I think for a close up defense gun it would still work great.

    I've got smallish hands, and this gun is probably the most comfortable/usable pistol I own. I have good and bad days at the range, but in general I feel that my groupings with this are pretty consistently better than my PPQ even, which is crazy to me.

    The p6 mag is 8 rounds plus one in the chamber, the reason the mags aren’t interchangeable is because of the grip angle. With that being said I will never be getting rid of mine, spare mags are scarce and modern holsters aren’t available. It’s about the same size as a g19 h x l x w

    The issue with your accuracy might be because it’s a thinner gun being a single stack. Do you have a lot of range time with a single stack pistol? Might be the reason why your shooting low and left. And as the gentleman said above me, it might be your finger position on the trigger since it’s a slimmer line pistol .

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Рік тому

      I think you are right. This is a very thin gun for me and I often shoot double stacks. I think your observation is very valid.

  • @fts8076
    @fts8076 2 місяці тому

    If you are having poor accuracy with this gun it's probably your grip. I was having issues too, then I changed up my grip and now out to 15 yards it's one ragged hole. If I let my grip slack, it's back to patterns rather than groups. People, myself included, tend to slack off on their grip with this gun because it feels like a larger gun and has a great trigger. Treat it like a little gun. Lock in that grip. Problem solved!

  • @michaelnolan6054
    @michaelnolan6054 Рік тому

    Just a guess, but you have large hands. If the Beretta 92 and the Sig P226 are comfortable to you, the P225 might be too narrow in the grip for you to get a proper hold.

  • @rossnielsen6820
    @rossnielsen6820 Рік тому

    Low left is you not gripping before you pull the trigger. You're pulling your shots. Squeeze your three fingers first, then pull the trigger. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video. I'm gonna get a p225 for the wife.

    I’ve had a 225-A1 about 5 years now & I Love it but it’s Always has one flyer about every 2 magazines. I’m a pretty decent shot & quite often shoot with EXCELLENT SHOOTERS and All agree - it’s the Gun . Great at the Range but I rarely carry it, if I ever have to use it I Need SPOT ON ACCURACY!!!!

    p220 compact is a better carry gun, Have the p227 full size and sas and they arent carry friendly at all.
