Godsmack is very underrated. You got their tribal stuff ("Voodoo", "Serenity", "Spiral"), you got their acoustic stuff ("Touche", "Asleep", everything from the house of blues show), your alt metal ("Awake", "Enemy"), some good covers ("Good times bad times"), and some good hard rock ("Bulletproof", "Shine Down", some of their newer stuff). Plus Sully's solo stuff which is not rock or metal. Underrated musicianship.
Guys I have listening to metal since I was 8 years old. My uncle turned me on to metal. I am now 50 years old. I listen from classic rock to the darkest heavyest metal. But I always look for songs with this level of creativeness the transition the experimenting, the ability to make music that they don't care who likes it or not. Godsmack is a very underrated band from a musical stand point. I get excited for you guys to see how you react. It's like seeing for the first time after being blind all your life. Thanks for sharing.
To me, what you're hearing in the intro that's familiar is Queensryche, since you did "Eyes of a Stranger." I'll suggest you go back to them as well. "Jet City Woman," "Spreading the Disease," "Suite Sister Mary," "I Don't Believe In Love," many more.

I first discovered Godsmack when they performed at Ozzfest 98 or 99, (I forget which it was). They were the only band all day long that actually knew where they were. Everybody kept saying NY, but it was in NJ. Nobody had heard of them. They were getting zero airtime on local radio stations in this area at the time. Sully came on stage, and went 'Does anybody out there get pissed off' and got crickets, because we're all like 'who tf is this guy.' So he goes, 'come on, this is New Jersey. Somebody out there gets pissed off' so we're like 'alright, he knows where he is, let's play along and see where this goes' and go 'yeah.' He goes 'guys out there, do you get pissed off?' and we're like 'YEAH' and he goes and do you guys get pissed off when you come home and find your girl f*cking another guy' and we're like 'YEAH!!!' and then this skinny ballsy mf'er goes 'I'M THE OTHER GUY!' and just launched right into the first song of their set. I laughed my ass off. I've never forgotten that, and I'll always respect the band if for no other reason than Sully having the nerve to screw with an entire crowd like that, when we had no idea who he was, and he knew we didn't.
I’m not surprised that you guys loved this. Godsmack got their start as an Alice In Chains cover band, and we all know how much you love them. Godsmack took their name after a song entitled Godsmack off of the AIC Dirt album.
I'm not the biggest Godsmack fan but I have to say one thing about them: they have become better songwriters and better musicians over the years. This is one of their more impressive tracks.
feel the exact same way. this song is pretty cool. can't get into most of their other jams. i actually dug i stand alone when it came out, but just listened again and didn't feel anything.
Yes, this pls. also maybe Death's cover of Judas Priest Painkiller?. That would be truly amazing as I would say it is one of the best metal covers of all time.

I was never really a Godsmack fan cause of all the radio play. I went to a concert to see a heavier band play and Godsmack was there. They tore the house down I was blown away been a fan since🤘

Godsmack - vampires...thats a kick ass instrumental by them. Great band. Fuck what metal elitists say...I love metal as much as anyone and these guys dominate what they do. Theyre amazing live as well.
Years ago they did an instrumental called Vampires which is a good piece in its own right, but you can tell how much they have improved over the years in musicianship and composition. So they haven’t been resting on their laurels and just banking cheques from the Scorpion King. They came to London back in about 2012, Sully was sick but played anyway, and they played The Oracle and went straight in to Forever Shamed right after and it was an absolute riot for about 8 minutes. Amazing
Shannon Larkin is such an UNDERRATED drummer. If you watch him playing this live or in "The Making of..." video, he is fun to watch and just ABSOLUTELY KILLS IT! Check out "Devil's Swing" from Godsmack. They lay down a heavy version of an old school swing tempo.
I Think the resemblance is especially with Metallica's "call of the ktulu". you should really hear that instrumental piece of music, its a masterpiece!

Knights of Cydonia, aka THE GREATEST MUSIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME. .....seriously, George and Ryan, y'all have to watch the video when you do the song. Both are epic in their own ways.
I am old school, being that I became a metal head around 1984 at age 12. I love Godsmack and the people around my age that I know, love Godsmack. I hear from those born mid-90's and later who are the haters of bands like Godsmack, Metallica and all the above. My personal opinion from what I seen. Take what you will from that.
If you want to see an amazing live band...go see Godsmack. They are very talented musicians. I have seen them several times since the late 90's. They kick ass.
Seen Godsmack multiple times, amazing live band. You need to listen the their first album. The entire album is great. Extremely underrated band, I dont understand how anyone can hate on them. Sully literally plays everything, great musician.
Godsmack is awesome!! Nothing to write off about them!! They are just straight forward hard rockin bad ass musicians. And you know you're always gonna get that from them!!.
Amazing song! One more band to thank you for (Gojira is the other one). Giving credit where credit is due: thank you guys! Keep up the awesome work! Cheers from Brazil
Great reaction, guys! Please check out "No Place for Disgrace" by the band Flotsam and Jetsam! It's the title track from their 2nd album released in 1988, and it's about Japanese Samurai warriors. Jason Newsted formed this band before joining Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton (bassist) died in a bus accident. Flotsam and Jetsam are still going strong. They just released their 14th album last week. Thanks!
Doesn't need lyrics when you have a tight knit group of professional metal musicians. ✅ especially Godsmack, they have had groove since they started the band. Like them or not, that's just facts.
Saw Godsmack and Shinedown 3 years ago, and they were both great. Cannot stand the "purist" metalheads that do not understand playing as fast as humanly possible is impressive, but often destroys the cohesiveness of the song. Godsmack is great about keeping everything together, as opposed to some of the "more pure" metal bands that just go on doing their own things. They have a lot of great songs. Really enjoyed the first 2 albums. Other great songs are Serenity, Rocky Mountain Way (cover), and 1,000 hp.
"Purists" who don't like godsmack don't like them simply for the sake of not liking them. Nothing wrong with godsmack. First album blew me away. After that they got a little repetitive for awhile but broke outta that rut. Also check out chevelle, taproot and static x. Other (thrash) instrumentals that would blow you away: Call of Ktulu - Metallica Conquer or die - Megadeth Dialectic Chaos - Megadeth If you like those we will give you more.
I dunno man, that's a pretty sweeping generalization. At this point I might consider myself a purist - metal has been my favorite type of music for decades. I don't like Godsmack. I think they have talent though and some of their songs are catchy. My tastes have nothing to do with their reputation, or their history. Why rag on people's tastes?
Godsmack for one reason or another people love them or hate'em no in-between I'm 50 I've always loved them from the 1st album to present...seen them 6 times never seen a bad show watch u hear on the album is what u hear live...
The Oracle is actually my favorite godsmack album The song “the oracle” reminds me a lot of Metallica’s “Orion “ mixed with “the thing that should not be” Godsmack is one of those bands that just pulls you into their music. Wether is “commercial”, “generic” or just pure hard rock and nu metal.
Wow, this late but I'm also this early. Would not have guessed. Can you guys do Bleed the Freak by Alice in Chains? I commented before listening. The first main riff absolutely reeks of Orion by Metallica, the intro sounds like straight out if Jerry Cantrell's playbook (if you didn't know, AIC has a song called Godsmack on the Dirt album), and the first solo sounds also very reminiscent of a Cantrell solo. You can so clearly hear the influences here!!
So glad you guys liked it!! I won't let you down! More requests to come🤟
I think I need the Absolute Tanner playlist, yo.
Thanks for requesting this, been after them to do Godsmack for 2 years!

I've been spamming that as well, they need to do a full album reaction though
@James Copp they already reviewed this one on patreon and may launch it here sometime soon
Yall are right. It's my first time hearing this song, but it is rad. All respect
Muse - Knights of Cydonia
I love Godsmack, don't think I have heard this instrumental from them before today though. Great suggestion! Really love the built up, like Ryan mentioned! And then the change up to a sort of Gojira vibe. Loved it!
Godsmack is underrated AF.
Love Godsmack, Rock Legends, my top five all time songs of theirs (I stand alone, Straight out of line, Serenity, Greed, Awake.)
Not a metal head but I do love heavy music with teeth as well as melody. That hit the spot.
Never underestimate Godsmack 🤩
Thanks!
Love Godsmack! Finally seeing them live I'm April 🤘🤘
All That Remains-Two Weeks...AWESOME SONG
Hell yeah!
Doesn't need lyrics when you have a tight knit group of professional metal musicians. ✅ especially Godsmack, they have had groove since they started the band.
Like them or not, that's just facts.
Tool - The Grudge
Saw Godsmack and Shinedown 3 years ago, and they were both great. Cannot stand the "purist" metalheads that do not understand playing as fast as humanly possible is impressive, but often destroys the cohesiveness of the song. Godsmack is great about keeping everything together, as opposed to some of the "more pure" metal bands that just go on doing their own things.
They have a lot of great songs. Really enjoyed the first 2 albums. Other great songs are Serenity, Rocky Mountain Way (cover), and 1,000 hp.
Great reaction guys!! I think you’ll love Saints and Sinners from the Oracle.
Shine down off the same album is great and sully kills it on the harmonica
This is the reaction I come back to rewatch most often.
"Purists" who don't like godsmack don't like them simply for the sake of not liking them. Nothing wrong with godsmack. First album blew me away. After that they got a little repetitive for awhile but broke outta that rut. Also check out chevelle, taproot and static x.
Other (thrash) instrumentals that would blow you away:
Call of Ktulu - Metallica
Conquer or die - Megadeth
Dialectic Chaos - Megadeth
If you like those we will give you more.
@@Mee0tchy ur the only one or the few ones that think that, people hate them to hate, cope harder
@@istealurgf this band hasn't even crossed my mind in the year since I posted. I'd say my coping strategy is sufficient, yawn
Straight out of line - GodSmack.
Agreed.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep
@@AndyWrasman Agreed!!! That's my fav Godsmack song
Godsmack for one reason or another people love them or hate'em no in-between I'm 50 I've always loved them from the 1st album to present...seen them 6 times never seen a bad show watch u hear on the album is what u hear live...
The Oracle is actually my favorite godsmack album
The song “the oracle” reminds me a lot of Metallica’s “Orion “ mixed with “the thing that should not be”
Godsmack is one of those bands that just pulls you into their music.
It is a amazing song
Do Vampires by Godsmack. Another instrumental that won an actual Grammy lol.
I was never into Godsmack until I heard Oracle and then 🤣 the rest is history.
This song definitely has a Metallica / Slayer / Sabbath vibe.
You’re absolutely right . Good ear
Mostly Metallica be cause of gallop riff
@@labret2 Very true.
Godsmack: If a tribal tattoo was a band.
I love that, I haven't heard anything from them 25 years, that rocks!
