      Arnold is from Austria Mrs.Eats if you didnt already know. Its actually why we liked him in America in part it made him seem like a stronger. but it also lends to alot of humorous things to. Conan the barbarian really shows that side of him I think.

    Hollywood movie stars looked down on TV roles, or doing TV commercials.
    They thought it was beneath them.
    but, they liked the money. and they figured, doing TV commercial in Japan would not hurt their images,
    because people in USA would not find it out. this was before internet.

      Many famous comedians remarked about how funny Arnold was. They actually suggested that he do a comedy film, after spending time with him and realizing what a great sense of humor he had. It was those suggestions that led to his comedy films such as Kindergarten Cop and Twins. Arnold proved he could do more than just action films and was great at comedy.

    I'm not sure if you are aware but Arnold's English voice sounds strange due to his Austrian accent. It actually gave him a lot of hardship finding roles as an actor until the first Terminator movie which made his role playing a robot from the future more convincing.
    Even stranger despite speaking German fluently his voice is dubbed in German as well due to his accent as well. From what I understand someone described it like hearing Larry the Cable Guy in a serious role.

    • @AbiElectric
      @AbiElectric Місяць тому +7

      I read somewhere his normal accent is pretty much American now but he does voice classes to keep the Austrian as it's his brand. Dunno how true it is but it makes sense!

    • @shui_og
      @shui_og Місяць тому +2

      @@AbiElectric Yeah part of me doubts the truth of that, since just because you live in a country for a long time does not by any means indicate that your native accent will change. My boss is 80 years old from Korea and speaks in a thick korean accent. But she has lived in the USA as a citizen since she was 22!

    • @Riceball01
      @Riceball01 Місяць тому +1

      @@shui_og Changing one's accent, in my opinion, depends on several factors. One of the top is probably when you moved to a new country, the younger you are when you moved the more likely you'll be able to speak the new language with no accent. The other big factor would be how much you use your native tongue vs. that of your new country. If you spend most of your time living and working in an ethnic enclave dealing mostly with people of your old nationality and speaking that language, then, in my opinion, you're much more likely to speak the new language with an accent.

    Ahnuld's ahccent was so thick in his eahrliest films, he had to be dubbed ovah. Seriously, I only watch "Hercules in New York" (from way back in 1969!) to hev a hah-ty laugh (it's a bad film, but a wonderful piece of Ahnuld history). Over the years, his accent improved. It still betrays his Austrian origin, but we can all understand him. After being an action king in the 80s, he switched to comedy in the 90s, and it was good. He got a reputation for playing charmingly goofy characters. Among his best loved films on my list of favorites: "True Lies" (Ahnuld is a secret agent), "Twins" (he stars with Danny DeVito as twins separated at birth), and "Jingle All the Way" (Ahnuld is an overstressed dad trying to find a Christmas present for his kid). As a Batman fan, I'm obligated to dislike 1997's "Batman and Robin," but Ahnuld always makes me smile, even in a bad role.

    The Brad Pit commercial and firlong one were disturbing... The school stuff brought back fond memories for me, the Makiguchi GTO series, Nakamaa Yuki Gokusen and Ultraman 80 all which my mom loved, I would translate for ger and give japanese context for her so she could understand the story. I miss her :)

    One great thing about Japan is how much they play into their own stereotypes. While other countries are busy clarifying “Italia is not just pizza” or “India is not just curry”, Japan went “you like sushi? Ramen? Ninja? Hell yeah! Here’s entire complex and amusement park dedicated to these”. Even if the ninja is not even historically accurate…

    Before I came to Japan I knew about CC Lemon from The Simpsons. Of course I had to try it and it's pretty good.

    I lived in Japan in the late 80s, early 90s, and was always amused by seeing celebrities doing commercials! Hard to believe they did such silly things that you just wouldn't see in the US.

      Also, I love Gaki no Tsukai. Their wacky comedy is what got me to get into Japanese culture. I just love how chaotic their annual Batsu games were. They're the only overseas actors/comedians that I ever wanted to get an autograph from. Someday....someday...

    If these Japanese commercials were always these wacky, I can only imagine it would be a lot wackier if Jim Carrey were in it or as a part of its creative team.
