Man even for me that hits really hard. I've never actually realised that.
This episode was, in my opinion, the best episode in the history of AvM - at least from a storytelling standpoint. The situation is communicated through an entirely unique and un-cliché'd way of storytelling, and perfectly adheres to the show-don't-tell rule. Each sequence is unique in its own style of music AND its visuals - the way they combine gives you insight into exactly what the characters are thinking. And it goes without saying that this is the most emotion-heavy episode of AvM by far. No exaggeration, I cried.
Please keep making more episodes with this kind of style. There are too few of these animated masterpieces on the internet.
I loved the worldbuilding here also. An as a musician myself, the musical moments being perfectly paired with animation is something I’ve never seen done with this much detail.
Like the part how the Green Stickfigure can use regular noteblocks with animals, but the baby zombie.gives him a pitch modulator to talk with the adult zombies. My favorite bit was the mountain chase scene.
Agreed, this episode was already really good with the music communication but with the backstory sequence, it is one of if not the best AvM episode so far
the only reason any other episode could be considered "better" is like. by the metric of cool fight scenes, I guess? the most this had was the chase, some disjointed punching during the big story animation and then the flight back to the Nether at the end...plus I guess it was mostly in the 2D style rather than the more epic 3D style. neither of those really make it worse IMO though, just less epic in the first act I guess

I love how The Animation was initially wacky and fun but gets more serious along the way after Purple gets reintroduced. From an Animal Musical Number to a Full Fledged Origin Story Song
Sameeee. The jarring mods shift from as soon as Purple reinters the frame is incredible and amazingly fitting

I love how this episode went through different song styles for each segment. Started off with something childlike to introduce Green to how this realm works, then there's the sort of psychedelic synth, followed by showtunes, and then the beatboxing llamas was just hilarious. But I could never have predicted an actual opera as the final act, complete with all of the emotional weight that implies. This is easily one of my favorite episodes

I don’t think it can be overstated how much of an emotional masterpiece this episode is. The use of different styles of music to represent different characters is so inspired. And the transition from the loud, distinctive styles of the different mobs to the single clarinet and violin to represent Green and Purple-masterful. And then, Purple’s backstory. The violin, the percussion, the use of clarinet when Green shows up again-an entire video could be spent analyzing this one scene. This is something incredibly emotionally mature, and it’s beautiful .

So this is the story they were trying to share: The thing was purple was treated as a friend multiple times by all the main characters. But purple has betrayed all of his friends multiple times that could have lead to his friends death. So Green was asking why he did all those things, why he betrayed them, and whether he was really good or evil. Purple told him a story of how his father left the family because he was too weak, and his mother died. So he did everything he could to gain someone's approval. But got denied in the process again like his father once did. He then admit he was evil. But Green comforted him and told him they don't care about whether what he did was good or bad. But that his friends will still care for him. So purple want to return good and help his friends.
As amazing as all this is, let us not forget the most amazing feat: Green being able to sing at the top of their lungs while sprinting up a mountain!
Alan’s animations are absolutely INSANE at this point. I was NOT expecting to be emotionally destroyed today and I thank him for it.

This was genuinely one of the most impressive films you've worked on to date, not only did you have to plan out storytelling through music but also time the animation to it. That one scene that shows the source of Purple's insecurities was amazing, I had no idea you could tell such a very powerful and personal story within a Miencraft animation series...

Ya know, DJ's got a point. With all the "agenda enjoyment" and all-sides virtue signaling in tv, and the "if you don't agree with me, it's not art", it would be good for kids (and adults) to see good art that doesn't have a quotable reminder of "what's good" every five seconds. And now that I've done the very thing I complained about, I'd also like to say: Alan, can you set up something (email list, Reddit page, etc.) where we can give you subtitle ideas, since UA-cam isn't doing community subtitles anymore? (Preferably not Patreon, but that's kind of selfish. As a non-patron, I'd like to write subtitles, but it stands to reason that people paying for it will usually have less reason to purposefully do bad subtitles without humor, or otherwise be discourteous about it.)

You know, the great thing about this story now is that it really doesn't have much to even do with Minecraft anymore. It's so much more about the stick figures and their stories, and Alan is just using Minecraft to tell that.

im pretty sure this episode was the shift because episode 28 was circled around getting a command block,
27 was a reference to monster school, a minecraft trend that got ruined, 26 was about the warden, and so on
The episodes have Minecraft elements obviously, but that's moreso just a medium for the storytelling of Season 3.
Pretty much every episode from 26-29 was more about how the color gang bonded with the new characters, TSC befriending the warden with music, Red with teamwork, Blue and Yellow with training (and food), and Green with music (again).
The command block and game icons are more or less general MacGuffins of Power, you could probably compare them to The Dark Lord's bracelets in terms of story significance.
Alan Becker is undoubtedly a creator with limitless potential, without a doubt, he surpasses himself every day

The #TeamSeas video does feature gray stick figure children, so perhaps sticks are created by websites/animators but can have kids of their own. After all they can eat, sleep and breathe, so maybe they can have babies too.

you can really tell that alan just got bored and made this episode but then he remembered about halfway through that he still has to make continuity to his story so he throws in a dramatic chase scene towards the end lol
I know DJ was making a joke regarding which parent was the asshole, but to be completely fair to him Stick Figures seem to be genderless in general, and color alone doesn't determine gender. It could have been the maternal parent was the abusive one for all we know.

Alan, this is truly great work. The amount of detail you put into everything is incredible, the backstory of Purple is heartbreaking and all the episodes blend together so well it's just absolutely spectacular! I can't wait to see what happens next, and keep up the great work!

here's what I think Purple's story is:
his dad was abusive and left him and his mom
after his mother died, he tried to get his dad's approval
the reason he wanted the dragon egg was to please his father
when that didnt work out he kept searching, causing him to meet King Orange
his dad might be King Orange's boss and is why Purple was so loyal
however, King Orange (and the dad if my theory above is correct) were just using Purple as a tool and didnt see any true importance in him
now Purple feels betrayed and after talking to Green, now wants his revenge
