Agree 100% with you. Last years we have excellent control over exposure (mirrorles cameras) and also on other jpeg parameters in camera to get desired look. Today we may spend more time enjoying in shooting than editing.

Exactly! I’d much rather be out shooting than editing, at least most of the time. I usually shoot raw + jpeg and I do use the raw file sometimes to get a certain look, but I’m mostly jpegs lately.

@@CliffDaigle If I shoot in very low light or hard light or I make for living I would always choose to have raw files for optional heavier editing. Otherwise, today's cameras need slight tweaks to produce excellent looking images straight from their bodies and we amateurs should use very much these technological advantages. I am inspired by some great photographs from film era found in National Geography for instance. There was none to very little post processing after those photographers, so imagine their limitations and final results within. I also did shoot some rolls of 35mm film occassionally so I learned more about those limitations and how to use what is available.

SORRY, silly me ! In my question below I meant X Raw Studio NOT Capture 1....duh! ***
Hi Cliff, sorry to trouble you but I have a question and would really appreciate your help, please.
*** In the Capture 1 Source Image Folder I cannot see all of the Albums I have in Photos (on my Mac mini M2).
I can see that my camera has connected and I have turned to OFF the two settings they recommend in my XT5) so that appears to be 'working' (oh, and the green light is flashing on the camera which is turned ON).
You mention that you use a specific Folder where you have put your RAW photos etc. but (and please forgive me if this is really basic) but how do I do that? The only option I appear to get in Photos is to create (another) Album...Bless you and I hope you can help me...pretty please and THANKYOOOOO LOTS !!!

I'd like to see X RAW Studio on the iPad/iPhone (if it exists I missed it). I don't see why it would be a big deal given is uses the camera to process images (newer iPads are faster than most laptops anyway even if it didn't). Would make a truly portable with a far better efficiency than trying to use in camera RAW processing.

I agree! I think everything should be on the iPad. The pro models are so fast now I think we'll see a lot of apps starting to work on them.

Hi Cliff, I wonder if you can help. I took photos with Fujifilm xs10 using FINE+RAW image quality. Then I copied photos to my Macbook Air using USB CARD READER as connection mode. Now when I open Apple Photo app each photos has JPEG+RAW shown on it. After that I wanted to use Fujifilm X Raw Studio to edit RAW photos. I changed Connection Mode on my camera to USB RAW CONV/BACKUP RESTORE, then connected camera to Macbook using cable, opened X Raw studio, but I cannot see any RAW photos. I must have done something wrong, but don't know what. Can you help? By the way, Raw Recording on my camera is switched to LOSSLESS COMPRESSED. Thank you so much for you assistance/guidance!!!

Thank you Cliff! Good tutorial on how to use X Raw Studio. One question: Once you finish in X Raw Studio and go back to Capture One, does Capture One automatically recognize the new jpegs or do you need to import them into your catalog or session?

    • @CliffDaigle

If you put them into the capture folder of a session Capture One will notice and add them to that session. I haven't tried with catalogs though - I use sessions in C1 all the time.

To be honest, all this fuss over Raw or Jpeg is quite over discussed in my opinion.
    My solution*
Just shoot Raw + Jpeg, large SD cards are not that expensive.
Use the Jpegs if you need a quick photo ASAP or just use the Raw files and edit to your hearts content. You may edit in lightroom with all the sliders it provides or apply a new film simulation using X Raw studio. So what's the fuss here? To save more storage space? Just shoot Raw + Jpeg, no regrets.

I have the X-T20 series and they're not the same settings for me to connect to my computer. How do I connect my X-T20 to my computer? In the video, he's using X-T4. On my X-T20 there isn't a USB RAW Conv./Backup Restore

Sorry for the late reply. I don't have an X-T20 here to test, but I do know you need firmware 2.0 for the camera to be supported. If you have that firmware update then I'm not sure you need to do anything except plug it in. Let me know if that helps or if you've found a solution!

Can I change the jpeg file's simulation in X Raw studio if originally captured in standard mode i.e. Provia as you mentioned??

    • @CliffDaigle
      @CliffDaigle 3 роки тому +1

Yes! You can change it ton anything you want.X Raw Studio uses the raw files which don't have a simulation baked into them yet.

Is it not practical to shoot simulations in raw? Why does it have to be in jpeg?
