He has laid out how he selects which is fine, but then applies it to only some players in the squad. The most glaring ones have to be at captain, at number 8, center, and fullback. Picking a player because you know him is not the way you choose an All Black. We have players in the squad who have not played before selection, are out of form but picked anyway, and after saying the captain will be the best in his position just hasn't worked with Scott Barrett. You do not use the All Black jersey to get back a players fitness and form. That's what Super Rugby and NPC are for. As I said, I never doubted him as a coach, but as a selector he is yet to give me any reason for confidence.
Instant gratification is nobody's friend. Razor is experimenting and has the right to do that. The pundits and fans should rather check their expectations, patience - or lack thereof and negative emotions, and let Razor do what he needs to do. 5 million people yelling at him has zero meaning to him, he knows what he is doing. How do you build depth replacing a guy who is 30 in April and has played 52 Tests with a guy who is 34 in May and has played 130 Tests? Especially when neither player is comfortable or at their best in that flyhalf position and never has been? Depth for what exactly? Surely not the next WC cycle?
Barrett ws a good 10 but that was 7 years ago. He is a good 15, but as you say he's currently 33. Plummer should be the 10. The end of year tour should see Plummer, Perofetta and Cameron going as our 10's. Even drop one of those and take Barrett so you have someone with experience, but certainly 2 of them need to go.
I do like that they have brought in Wayne Smith, and it speaks volumes for Razor as a person and a coach, that he has seen that he needs the help. On another note I simply do not understand why he has picked Havilii over Proctor.

MacDonald is gone and the rest are all yes men. Sometimes players need to be held accountable instead of told what they have done well and given more chances. MacKenzie is an example. Robertson has said from the first test that his failing (sorry learning) is Game Management. He has terrific attacking flair but is unable to read a game and play conservatively when required.
I agree with you. He is a terrible public speaker. I would be prepared to bet that Fozzie initially beat him to the top job because he gave a great power point presentation. You just know, with the idiots who run New Zealand rugby, that they would go with form over content every time.

The fact is our team is average as far as ABs teams go. That being said, the core of this average team got within a point of winning a RWC, much closer than many better ABs sides have in the past. Yes, he won the game last week, but put us in a position to lose it, and lost one in South Africa if you look at it like that. Really we only won cause Australia couldn't score quickly enough, though they did put themselves in position to score twice and then had one disallowed. Thank goodness their defense was rubbish in the first 15 minutes.

Let's be honest: DMac is a guy who possesses great physical attributes on attack ie. acceleration and preparedness to take risks, but on game management he is clueless. If anyone doubts my word, I urge you to watch his debut against Italy, where he took bad options time after time against an opponent who put him under minimal pressure. Barrett is not a first-five who can set up a backline or be effective in exiting his own half ( Just like DMac). When he debuted for the AB's, the coaches always used to play Israel Dagg at fullback so they could use his exceptionally long punts to exit their own red zone. However, Razor is an exceptionally good coach ( put away your anti Crusader biases for a minute) who has the inner resourcefulness and creativity to find solutions. If the NZRFU had a competent management, they would have selected Razor to coach the AB's five years ago, just like the Aussies did with Brumbies coach, Rod MacQueen in 1997, who then took them to a World Cup victory in 1999. We would have won the cup for sure, but we have a tradition of appointing morons to run our institutions and pay the price for this despite all the talent at our disposal. Give Razor time and support ( just like Cantabrians did) and you will be rewarded with an All Black team who you actually can have faith in.

Beauden should have been given the reigns then and Plummer now so we can see whether he is up to test football before the end of year squad is picked.
