Breakpoint is just the same ubisoft formula they've been using for all their games since The Division.
@@a.h4224 wildlands was boring and looked boring till I turned it on to the hardest difficulty and invited friends to play. We made up for the immense lack of tactical options ourselves
I loved that game. I was going to buy a PS2 to play that. That was my first tactical shooter. And I sucked at it trying to be rambo. And when I was wearing the headset one time "bravo move to"and my dad heard me and thought I was swearing and told me to stop.
Breakpoint: Takes players out of their comfort zone and more on the defensive... Me:*Walks into base * *slaughters everyone inside solo* Me: On the defensive, right
Lose the HUD, ramp up all difficulty, don't play with anyone and use your ears. Gets alot better. Could have used a perma death feature like in Wildlands.
james bryant I just picked up breakpoint a few weeks ago. After playing the closed beta I said I wouldn’t touch it. It was on sale for 67% off. Why not right? I’m actually really enjoying the gameplay. The story is horrible, the the new ghost experience update really improved the game. There’s still flaws, but I can look past them now that I don’t have a loot system and gear score. I like how you can tweak everything in the settings for HUD, difficulty, etc. Being able to turn on/off AI teammates is nice. Even if I only use them for a distraction if things go south.
Ubisoft had no other option except changing the franchise's core tactical gameplay style to something like a variation of third person perspective of Far cry.. They sales were lower comparative to the previous entries.. Most of the gamers are casual nowadays and they prefer arcady unrealistic fast paced COD style gameplay or fortnite.. Too bad we hardly have any major tactical fps right now except ARMA 3 and Escape from Tarkov..
2019 & still Wildlands is my Benchmark for video game graphics. I totally loved it even though I prefer the older hardcore tactical & military style of Ghost Recon 1.
I just don't know why they had to make it less tactical like classic ghost recon and turn it into division/farcry. Like ghost recon can be its own thing you don't have to shoe horn mechanics from your other games into this one. Its all set up for revenue clearly. They've really ruined ghost recon along with rainbow six, turning it into a mlg thing.
Yup, that's the sad truth unfortunately. Tom Clancy games used to be top of the line when it came to tactical games. Now they're all fast paced, xray-vision, xp-driven games that require zero attention span with a very small emphasis on actual realism. We went from Ghost Recon 1 actually predicting the Russian invasion of Georgia to Breakpoint where you're fighting some robots on an imaginary island against comic book level villains. 2004-2005 was the peak of Tom Clancy games, and 2008 was the last good year. After that everything has been absolute rubbish. Such a shame.
I agree tbh. They could’ve just had it where the Division and perhaps a couple of other games were this fast paced Michael Bay shooter games and then have Ghost Recon be this tactical game, to keep everyone happy. But they decided it would be better to abandon uniqueness and make a more open world Call of Duty, since that’s what Wild-lands is, let’s not lie. But I suppose in a way people created it, since everyone liked these Michael Bay explosiony games, so they decided to create something out of Call of Duty Black Ops (the more modern ones), it’s a shame but it was to be expected when everyone clinged to such games
@@edwardzero9275 I like how you clarified that you meant the more modern Black Ops games.. as if the original Black Ops was not a michael bay explosiony game lol
Nick930 Lol, true enough. But when you think of robots and some dudes with a mask hunting you down, it’s more reminiscent of something that the more modern installations would use…I’m pretty sure once in Black Ops 3 they even had a mission where you hunted down a person in a robot. Unlike the first one which was dated back in the Cold war, something I still prefer over a lot (but not necessarily all) of these futuristic games and even some modern ones
I don't mind the open world at all and I think it fits the game, if there was an actual campaign it would work better, with optional "side ops" just like an ArmA scenario. Sadly, Ubisoft has potato servers along with their potato brainpower.
I remember playing 2001 Ghost Recon as a 5-6 year old kid, i didn't know what the hell i was supposed to do, primarily because i didn't spoke english then but i sure did was trying to play it. I've had fun with it. You made me want to play it again.
If I remember correctly the story for GRAW2 picks up literally right where the first one left off with you in the humvee leaving the city. Always thought that was cool as a kid because I’m pretty sure each game takes place within a 24 hour period of time. No cutscenes or anything just firefight after firefight made me really immersed into the character
I loved Ghost Recon Wildlands - it was an incredible open world. So far I’m finding Breakthrough a step back - the AI is really woeful to the point that it spoils it.
Man I still remember how intense the Ghost Recon 1 days were on Xbox Live and Island Thunder.. I have not and doubt I will ever experience a tactical shooter as special as it was back in the original games..
lions Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising is similar especially in 1v1’s online, you can command about 25 troops to take chokepoints and push certain areas
Not a step back, on release was not the game we needed but i got it 2 weeks ago £11.00 and alot as been done to fix it and make a good game 🎮 that's cool loving it.
I discovered the series with Breakpoint and basically fell in love with Wildlands. The series has changed so much, even before it almost became an RPG. I find it incredible.
Why did everyone forget about Future Soldier ? Sure , Wildlands is cool for multiplayer, but Future Soldier was clearly the best single player experience.
Bro..I just been watching this and nearly forgot about Future soldier 2012...I was stuck in nostaligic mode whilst watching the 2006 advanced warfighter bit. But your right, they'd actually cracked it back then with future soldier, had some siick times coming home from work and smashing in some hours on that!!
Ghost Recon (2001, PC) was the first game I've ever played, and still a game I play from time to time in coop with a couple of people. Nothing like it. 18 years have passed, and I've never seen an enemy AI as formidable as those damn ultranationalist Russians... After their decision to consolise the series and pander to the younger console audience, GR stopped being what it was always supposed to be and what the first one truly was, a rival to ARMA (back then, Operation Flashpoint). It's truly sad to see what became of the series. Also, anyone remembers how amazing and adrenaline pumping the music used to be? JAG, Stargate and others at the time had similar music style, I don't know what it was, but god damn was it amazing.
It’s atmosphere is one of the best in any game. There’s no bullshit marvel humor or excessive explosions and action set pieces. It’s very quiet and tense, peppered in with some of the most intense shootouts you can possibly engage in in a game. It’s also eerie when a distant squad member kills an enemy and whispers “goodbye” into the radio. Despite the limited graphics, Redstorm did everything in its power to make Ghost Recon as intense and atmospheric as possible. 10/10 game.
Great video: - Should have mentioned Ghost Recon Classic still lives on PC the original game and its expansion are one of the most heavily modded games ever... tons snd tons of content exists from missions to a fully functioning third person mode -stealth was not “emphasized” starting with Future Soldier... it was present in the original game... not taking suppressed weapons or being engaged by the enemy set off alarms and had enemy employ QRF systems to beat the player... stealth was a priority in the original...
advanced warfighter and its sequel have a special place in my heart. They were some of the first shooters I ever played as a kid and absolutely love the older games even years later
My Top 3 1. GR Wildlands - massively underrated game of the year in 2017. I’m a big fan of the cartel narrative and taking down the organization like a real agent, this game also came out during the Netflix show Narcos in full swing and with El Chapo in the news this game felt so relative. Unfortunately BreakPoint doesn’t have the same charm and is not as interesting imo. Also the crossovers with siege, splinter cell, predator, witches, yeti, etc.. this game was truly special. Ghost War was very fun to play as well and the devs always listened to the audience to what needed to be added and changed. 2. GR Future Solider - This was awesome when it came out in 2012 another underrated game for that year. The campaign, the change in style, the graphics, details, gadgets, stealth, the overall feeling of this game was truly an epic experience. You truly felt like a super badass secret squad. I don’t remember much of the PvP in this game but I do remember it being fun the first initial times playing it. 3. GRAW 2 - Just a classic game in the series. My first real experience of online Xbox back in those days. I’ll always remember how real and fun it was to be in a squad with your buddies playing PvP and you’d be talking and all of a sudden you couldn’t hear your friend on the mic because he got killed and went into the death chat - those were good times before party chat killed game chat.
I like Red Storm Entertainment version of Ghost Recon. Tactical gameplay with cover mechanics with squad commands is the perfect idea on paper, but sadly they want to make a casual experience. Proof of this, GR: Break point has microtransactions on gear, in order to force players to skip the grind fest due to its The Division looter shooter, and its RPG lite elements.
@@AlexSmith-dm2fz and you've obviously NEVER touched the first ghost recon game or rainbow six 1, rogue spear or raven shield lmao.... I have, and I can tell you they're WAY more tactical than BROKENpoint could ever even dream of being.... so stfu

the story in wildlands is actually pretty good. most of the story is actually found within the video, audio, and written kingslayer files. this might be seen to some as exseive or out of place but to me seems more realistic as why would we, as soldiers sent in to stealthily/ anonymously kill of the cartel heads, be told everything out of the box. so when people play the game I do recommend looking closer at these files as they fill out the rest of the story
People tend to forget that the name is “Ghost Recon”. Reconnaissance. Seeking out information. Your average gamer is probably not going to take that into consideration and not pick up anything other than what they’re told to pick up.
Honestly I just like how well constructed your videos are, tho this is not relevant I enjoy knowing a history of the games that changed certain elements of gaming. Keep posting and I'll keep 👍
Now that I've had a chance to play Breakpoint, I've since gone back and started Wildlands again. Wildlands ended up being a really good game and while Ubi made some good changes to Breakpoint they failed to bring the same world feel that WL had and that's a noticeable difference. Since Ubi will continue to update Breakpoint, it may end up being as good as Wildlands, but it's got some catching up to do.
@@lootgoblin8705 I haven't played it in a few months but overall I still think WIldlands was a better game. I enjoyed BP thoroughly, but not quite as much as Wildlands.
I just want them to make a better and a new ghost recon game. But if seeing breakpoint Is their only future ongoing as of today. Then I guess I’ll just have to make a wish list of changes
@@wtbchildhood My only real issue with BP is that it's taken a very long time to fill out the development. I understand that they want to release things at their pace, however, there comes a point when even adding new components doesn't really change the same old game.
@David Mizser I agree. Wildlands just had the right formula and it made the game feel unique with each mission/side quest you did. BP didn't have that. However, the stealth aspect of BP is superior, by far, to Wildlands.
The idea of Breakpoint could have been so cool. Imagine a Snake Eater style jungle survival scenario. You're outgunned, outnumbered and fighting for you life while acting out guerrilla tactics against your targets. Instead we got a broken, Destiny styled, RPG, microtransactioned nightmare.
I liked GRAW very much. I was super excited for this at the time. Watched alot of trailers. But i had no idea that PC version will be nothing like those trailers. I want my experience to be like one i saw in trailers. Only after buying 360 i had a chance to play the game i always wanted.
Great video for the history of one of my favorite franchises. I'm glad Breakpoint is getting back to that GRAW and future soldier style just hopefully more polished then Wildlands.
First two Classic Ghost recon games in order and classic rainbow six 1 and rainbow six Vegas 2 were hands down the best in their own series, why tf both companies decided to ruin potential at the same time Is beyondddd me 😭, we need some remakes, or at least remasters for these masterpieces ❤️
I've been returning to future soldier and it has been really fun. It feels like you and your squad have decided to throw out the general rule book of tactics in lieu of winning at any cost.
This video makes me so excited to get into the Ghost Recon series! It looks so cool, I've been really missing out. The tactical squad gameplay of the original, the open world of Wildlands and the more defensive and survival style of Breakpoint, et cetera et cetera, I can't wait to try them out.
Great video. The past games used to be very tactical like the old Rainbow Six games - shoutout to Raven Shield. But now it's just an open world third person shooter. Wildlands is not tactical at all despite what people say. You can run n gun with no planning whatsoever. Switching off your hud doesn't change that. If Wildlands is a tactical shooter, then Call of Duty is a tactical shooter. Breakpoint looks like more of the same with looting involved.
I agree, however.. i wouldnt say you can run and gun in wildlands at all. I actually struggled immensely to stay alive when i tried to record footage of combat in wildlands. With the harder difficulties enabled, you're forced to use stealth almost completely. If anything.. the series used to feature MORE run-and-gun than it does now. Ghost recon 2 for example, plays a lot more like a Call of Duty game than wildlands does.
First GR was great. To bad the industry shifted to the action-flick style. Wildlands GR version has a Predator somewhere in the jungle. It's was great fun watching some players game on UA-cam, when they stumbled across the Predator, and the guys not having seen the movie (don't ask how that happened), they were very much surprised, that was priceless.
Love it! Sadly Breakpoint was a step behind from Wildlands. Hopefully that Ubisoft launch Wildlands 2 and forget all the things on Breakpoint. It is a disaster!
Wow. Great story. I just started playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint and have become addicted to it. I can't wait to see if they will revive the Splinter Cell series.
On the topic of Wildlands, I had no idea people hated the vehicle controls. Yeah, the planes and helicopter controls are horrendous (at least on PC), but the wheeled vehicle controls are better than anything I've ever played before, and I love it.
I remember when it used to be great, the new Beta has one tapped Ghost Recons promise. Wildlands was very enjoyable but I don't know what they have done with Breakpoint.
Wildlands was a step in the right direction imo, at least in terms of the environment and how much choice you have. But I still think they should give us the option to play like in the original, with all those brutal hardcore mechanics. The original is still my favorite for that reason alone. Breakpoint was just an utter failure imo.
I used to play The Sum of All Fears A lot as a Child and that game Was amazing I wish more games were like that, especially with the whole you can change between teammates and if you die the game isn’t over you just continue with the game until everyone is killed, can you imagine if we still got games like that? Imagine a Star Wars republic commando or a Star Wars game where you play as a bunch of plain white clones or commandos and you get set out on missions and if you die during the game it isn’t over it only switches you to the other teammates that’s alive? Or a halo game where your an ODST and your all just grunts exact same concepts that would be so amazing and way more fun you would never be punished if you died only when you lose your entire team then you’d be forced to restart or last checkpoint etc These guys really made a Unique game with this kind of system I just wish they kept with it it really was amazing 😔
Great historical review of the series. I always wondered why people hated Wildlands because they thought it was less tactical than Advanced Warfighter and Future Soldier. I never played those games but they always looked less tactical to me so I played Wildlands with an open mind and loved it. Loved seeing gameplay of the original game too. That was the only other installment I played on PC and then on Xbox as the first Xbox Live game.
Future soldier was my first ghost game I ever played and it was great. After watching previous ghost games gameplays I think they’re great too. Played wildlands and it was okay and multiplayer was kind of suck imo. Prefer future soldier multiplayer and the free to play on steam. Break point is quite similar to wildlands with a bit of enhancements. But I guess I wont buying the game unless it goes on sale 🙄
I played around 500 hours of Wildlands and to this day, I can’t decide whether it’s a good Ghost Recon game. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good game, but I don’t think it’s a good Ghost Recon game. It feels more like Far Cry in 3rd person rather than a tactical military shooter, with a heavy emphasis on strategy. And I find it extremely immersion-breaking when some guys join my match dressed as cow-boy pirates or hillbillies, rushing into a base without thought, and getting downed several seconds later, only for them to blame me for not having their six. “Well, if you don’t like coop, then don’t play it in coop”. So you’re blaming me for trying to play the game, the way the developers meant it to be played? Well excuse me.
I feel the same, I completed woodlands to 100% over a few month, playing all of it co op on xbox live. Its the best co op experience ive ever had. I wish the would stop the RPG, micro transactions and Hollywood stories, bring it back a bit. And stay away from future tech, future stories etc, with drones and all that crap.

Wildlands sucks, Breakpoint even worst.
The new update finally allows you to play on a mode where u can customize your game in a way, like you can remove the gear score and such.

Yes
I've got it sitting next to Ghost Recon 1 and 2 on my shelf, lol

I loved that game. I was going to buy a PS2 to play that. That was my first tactical shooter. And I sucked at it trying to be rambo. And when I was wearing the headset one time "bravo move to"and my dad heard me and thought I was swearing and told me to stop.

james bryant I just picked up breakpoint a few weeks ago.
Cranked it to the highest setting , soloed a base headshots only suppress with the bots having little to none reaction. Yawn. Kinda boring so far
Oh yeah, back then when Ghost Recon was actually a tactical videogame, look how they massacred my boy
ubisoft has done that with all the Tom Clancy IP.
The butchering of R6, and Splinter Cell make me sad.

Future soldier was ahead of its time tbh. Now just imagine that game in today’s world
Gmoneyman it would be not as good now tbh but more improved upon I believe
It was behind at the time but go off
It would be full or glitches, uninspired story and full of microtransactions. Games are a product of their time.

10/10 game.

Great video:
- Should have mentioned Ghost Recon Classic still lives on PC the original game and its expansion are one of the most heavily modded games ever... tons snd tons of content exists from missions to a fully functioning third person mode
-stealth was not “emphasized” starting with Future Soldier... it was present in the original game... not taking suppressed weapons or being engaged by the enemy set off alarms and had enemy employ QRF systems to beat the player... stealth was a priority in the original...
Wild lands was such an immersive experience.
And you can jump of cliffs!
Yes, it’s my favorite of all time and I’m not really a big gamer. Do you know of any other games like it?
advanced warfighter and its sequel have a special place in my heart. They were some of the first shooters I ever played as a kid and absolutely love the older games even years later
My Top 3

I generally keep to your direct comparison videos, on the contrary, this was a really well done and in depth video.
the story in wildlands is actually pretty good. most of the story is actually found within the video, audio, and written kingslayer files. this might be seen to some as exseive or out of place but to me seems more realistic as why would we, as soldiers sent in to stealthily/ anonymously kill of the cartel heads, be told everything out of the box.
so when people play the game I do recommend looking closer at these files as they fill out the rest of the story
People tend to forget that the name is “Ghost Recon”. Reconnaissance. Seeking out information. Your average gamer is probably not going to take that into consideration and not pick up anything other than what they’re told to pick up.

Your current thoughts on BP?
Wildlands is still my favorite. What we need next is Wildlands 2!

I've been returning to future soldier and it has been really fun. It feels like you and your squad have decided to throw out the general rule book of tactics in lieu of winning at any cost.
Wow truly amazing video! Great job!

Ghost recon 2 for example, plays a lot more like a Call of Duty game than wildlands does.
comparing wildlands to CoD is like the dumbest thing ive seen in a while
You really can’t run n gun in wildlands. Seriously, try it, even with good gear and upgrades you will get lit up and die in 5 seconds

It’s taken them two years, but breakpoint is finally good
Wildlands was a step in the right direction imo, at least in terms of the environment and how much choice you have. But I still think they should give us the option to play like in the original, with all those brutal hardcore mechanics. The original is still my favorite for that reason alone.
Breakpoint was just an utter failure imo.
GR 2001's squad system was soooooo enjoyable to me. Felt so great building them up but when you lost a member it really hurt
Or a halo game where your an ODST and your all just grunts exact same concepts that would be so amazing and way more fun you would never be punished if you died only when you lose your entire team then you’d be forced to restart or last checkpoint etc
These guys really made a Unique game with this kind of system I just wish they kept with it it really was amazing 😔

I like to think of it as the "Sicario" game we never received. Less Ghost Recon, definitely agree.
