The gopher snakes is my favourite. I've fallen in love with every one I've caught. So photogenic and so much character. Nearly all the gopher snakes I've caught were just as calm and docile as that one. Great video!
What the heck is that 😶
Really? Every one I came across gets pissed off quickly and will rattle their tails and hiss loudly.
Will they bite if you try to handle them? I see em all the time in morgan hill
@@tonym8619 Sometimes they behave a bit grouchy but, handled carefully and gently, I've never been bitten. Most of the time they seem quite indifferent. Although, I've noticed that, in some regions, they can be slightly more aggressive. Seems like the more northern populations are more docile and most of the ones I've handled were in Canada or around the Columbia River Gorge (Washington/Oregon).
@@watwudscoobydoo1770 Here in Kansas, I've seen them do some tail rattling, hissing, and bluff strikes when startled, but they become very docile if they are picked up gently.
Nature is beautiful
DropTheBeat Cat that is if it's not hurting you

By the way, your'e awesome, Coyote Peterson! Thanks for uploading these incredible videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Growing up in the area and catching all these snakes brings back memories :) Thanks. My favorite to catch were California Kings
You're so lucky. I wish I had them where I live.
So cool!
I have a Pet California Kingsnake
California king snakes are my favorite snakes they're the best to catch but I never caught one they're so big when I go to the Santa Cruz mountains I'm going to look for one and when I catch I'm going to let it go after I'm done touching it and playing with it and then I think I'm going to live stream it then I'm going to put it on UA-cam
o
My son Jack just found a Garter snake in the wild and picked it up to inspect it. Thanks for instilling a love of wildlife in my 8 year old!

Another great show brother!
I myself have handled snakes, both venomous and harmless.
Being no herpetologist, but if I find a dangerous snake, I have been known to just place it into a pillow case, and remove it to a new habitat children don't play in.
I hate to move them, as this is a disturbance, but in the end it's best for both human, and reptile. I wish all of us chould just live in peace with our animal neighbors.
mrscary3105 thanks so much for watching... and i think your work relocating snakes to an area where kids are not playing is a pretty good play...i agree that its not ideal for the snake...but better a snake be moved than a human bitten and then the snake destroyed! Be careful but keep up the good work!!
I live near Letchworth State park, so snakes are common here for being Western NY. In Danville NY, they have a place called Rattlesnake hill. (Guess how it was given that name) ;)
You are basically the new Steve Irwin ;)
Lincoln Runyan He died with animals in his heart
Haha that is exactly what I was thinking a couple weeks ago! I wish he were alive though
Martin Rosenmuller thanks for the incredibly kind comment... Steve was one of my inspirations when I was younger...great honor that people see some of that in me but no one will ever replace him. My goal is to bring animals to people in a way that he inspired...carrying on the torch is important for all of the animals and for the kids of the next generation :)
+Coyote Peterson r u thereal one

I love this channel! I could easily spend all day on here. Good job Brave wilderness! I learn a lot watching this show.
What a beautiful Garter snake. I need to get up to Santa Cruz again.
I love your videos so much
I used to catch Mountain Garter snakes all the time in my Grandma's backyard, they were super cool and loved to hang out in her bamboo garden along with all sorts of frogs and lizards.
Awesome video Coyote:) Thanks so much. The garter snake with the yellow strip down the middle was really pretty.
Edie Koller you bet Edie! Glad you enjoyed this one... we have a real fun one coming out tomorrow...stay tuned and thanks for checking this one out!
I've caught a juvenile gopher snake one time because it was just basking on the tarmac of a trail. They are pretty similar looking to rattlesnakes at a quick glance, so I don't recommend doing he or I did because it might actually be a rattlesnake. If you are 100% sure it's a gopher though, they are pretty docile if you can catch them.
Merry christmas Coyote! Glad that you loved to be around animals and show us what u do i love watching your videos and wanna do something involving animals when i grow up :D
the most beautyful snake to my opinion? i realy love the Redsided Garter Snakes and the African Bush Viper.
he should have a tv show
I regularly hike the trails along this coast and see these snakes all the time. I'm usually not a snake guy, but it's nice to know that I don't need to be concerned about them. I've seen some pretty huge ones in my hikes! Thanks for the info Coyote.
man i love your videos i learn alot from them, love your hat too.

I love your content! Nature is beautiful! I love snakes and I am interested in them! You deserve more subs! :D
Caught a beautiful gopher snake at a church in San Diego many years ago. It looked a lot like the one in this video but it had dark green spots and a brilliant yellow underbelly. I kept it as a pet for about 10 years, very tame and friendly snake. I miss him so much!
Best background music ive come to see
Good show.
I like the bug vacuum ad !!!
Wow, what a huge garter snake! Interesting that those don't bite, because one of the species we have will bite very often... It is also a 100% chance you will get musked!

amazing !!!!!!😆😃☺😊
the freeway snake is a beauty
awesome
You should do an episode on identifying dangerous from non dangerous snakes. You have inspired my already firey passion of catching animals, and that would be useful to educate others on this.
man I love and miss Santa Cruz. I'm in Georgia now
Geez - huge garter. Nice finds.
That thumbnail is on point
I like both snakes they both are so cool 😎
Thank you for giving me many excuses to stay inside 😂
Me and my sister Ava absolutely love snakes
Your so so good at catching anamials
I love
Is this guy fearless. I mean seriously, he dives for almost any animal
Omg so cool
I personally loved it when I was able to catch a California mountain king snake. It was only a baby, but so pretty!
I've also caught a couple types of garter snake, and the gopher snake. They're both super smooth. Then the really loud hissing rat skin (large and yellow) here in Colorado.
Coyote Peterson Hey coyote so alot of people like you that catch animals and all that end up dying from venom or a bite i just wanted to tell you to be careful because you really are an inspiration! : -) anyways keep up the goodbwork!
GLGBro2-Or Puss
GLGBro2 -Or Puss well thank you for such caring concern...I truly appreciate that :) I always do my best to stay safe...and while it can be dangerous at times...we take all precautions necessary and always have a safety team on location when working with potentially deadly animals.
this is such a wholesome part of the comment section
+Coyote Peterson i really hope that you don't die doing this life threatening job... because you are a huge inspiration and i no longer have archnaphobia because of you
goodbwork?
4:45 The Gopher Snake’s head movements remind me of the movements from a Woodcock!
Coyote, when i move to California, i want to do exactly that!
Gopher snakes hurt when they bite. Here is my story; we went to an abandoned hospital, there we found a Gopher snake. When we got home we put in in a cage and occasionally let it out. One time when we let it out it was hungry, my finger was sticking out of my blanket and I didn't know, one thing led to another it thought I was food. . . . It bit me.
+Samuel Cox i'd bite you too if you took me home and put me in a cage
+Samuel Cox Is it your pet now or did you let it go?
that is awesome🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐼🐊
Hahahaha! My best friend and I ran from a snake like that. I went up on the ridge above it to get a better look and I noticed that it didn't have a rattle, but it looked for all the world like a rattle snake and so we kept going up the trail and away from it, even though it was hot and we really wanted to sit in a little cave near the snake. On an even hotter day in a different set of hills, I actually sat under the shade of a tree with a baby rattle snake. There was nowhere else for me to go so I sat facing the snake in the shade with it.
I found my first gopher snake on my last hike ^^ It was a gorgeous animal. They move fast too! It got a little uncomfortable after I got closer to take pictures and it just started booking it across the trail and into the grass.
Coyote can you try to find certain beetles like the ultra rare stag beetle I have found one myself but the come out in mid may
Welcome to California Coyete! FYI though, the map in the beginning of this segment (at 0:29) says San Mateo, CA but marks the "X" in the general Santa Cruz, CA area. San Mateo is actually on the northern side of the Golden Gate bridge. Thanks for doing this entertaining, educational show! Keep up the great work.
I love snakes 🐍🐍🐍

Heads up garter snakes can actually be very nippy. They're harmless but you will get bit!
Can you please name the music used in your videos?
I love it. I'd really like to know the name of the song playing when you found the gopher snake.
Cool 😎
Coyote can you make a video on how to safely catch garden snakes

RiGi Red its called a garter not garden
living in Ca. most of my life i've caught garter and gopher snakes all over the state and rescued hundreds off of the roads they like to rest on where they go into their torpor (warm sleep). it's been the death of millions. in the early '50's i used to be able to catch over a dozen an hour in places like Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia, Lassen, the Mojave, and in the Santa Monica Mountains. beautiful animals, they should not be kept in cages by selfish people. they have a job to do and it keeps things in balance.
