The gopher snakes is my favourite. I've fallen in love with every one I've caught. So photogenic and so much character. Nearly all the gopher snakes I've caught were just as calm and docile as that one. Great video!

Really? Every one I came across gets pissed off quickly and will rattle their tails and hiss loudly.

Will they bite if you try to handle them? I see em all the time in morgan hill

    • @calebbomske5170

@@tonym8619 Sometimes they behave a bit grouchy but, handled carefully and gently, I've never been bitten. Most of the time they seem quite indifferent. Although, I've noticed that, in some regions, they can be slightly more aggressive. Seems like the more northern populations are more docile and most of the ones I've handled were in Canada or around the Columbia River Gorge (Washington/Oregon).

@@watwudscoobydoo1770 Here in Kansas, I've seen them do some tail rattling, hissing, and bluff strikes when startled, but they become very docile if they are picked up gently.

    Another great show brother!
I myself have handled snakes, both venomous and harmless.
Being no herpetologist, but if I find a dangerous snake, I have been known to just place it into a pillow case, and remove it to a new habitat children don't play in.
I hate to move them, as this is a disturbance, but in the end it's best for both human, and reptile. I wish all of us chould just live in peace with our animal neighbors.

    • @CoyotePeterson
      @CoyotePeterson 9 років тому +3

mrscary3105 thanks so much for watching... and i think your work relocating snakes to an area where kids are not playing is a pretty good play...i agree that its not ideal for the snake...but better a snake be moved than a human bitten and then the snake destroyed! Be careful but keep up the good work!!

I've caught a juvenile gopher snake one time because it was just basking on the tarmac of a trail. They are pretty similar looking to rattlesnakes at a quick glance, so I don't recommend doing he or I did because it might actually be a rattlesnake. If you are 100% sure it's a gopher though, they are pretty docile if you can catch them.

Gopher snakes hurt when they bite. Here is my story; we went to an abandoned hospital, there we found a Gopher snake. When we got home we put in in a cage and occasionally let it out. One time when we let it out it was hungry, my finger was sticking out of my blanket and I didn't know, one thing led to another it thought I was food. . . . It bit me.

Hahahaha! My best friend and I ran from a snake like that. I went up on the ridge above it to get a better look and I noticed that it didn't have a rattle, but it looked for all the world like a rattle snake and so we kept going up the trail and away from it, even though it was hot and we really wanted to sit in a little cave near the snake. On an even hotter day in a different set of hills, I actually sat under the shade of a tree with a baby rattle snake. There was nowhere else for me to go so I sat facing the snake in the shade with it.

Thanks for making these awesome videos . I've always wanted a pet snake but there so expensive and I can't just go out and find one because I live in the nowhere that is Michigan so the best thing I would find is a 1 inch garter snake but I hope to get one one day

Heads up garter snakes can actually be very nippy. They're harmless but you will get bit!

Can you please name the music used in your videos?
I love it. I'd really like to know the name of the song playing when you found the gopher snake.

living in Ca. most of my life i've caught garter and gopher snakes all over the state and rescued hundreds off of the roads they like to rest on where they go into their torpor (warm sleep). it's been the death of millions. in the early '50's i used to be able to catch over a dozen an hour in places like Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia, Lassen, the Mojave, and in the Santa Monica Mountains. beautiful animals, they should not be kept in cages by selfish people. they have a job to do and it keeps things in balance.
