Gates McFadden (Star Trek, Labyrinth) joins us this week to share her decades worth of experience with Star Trek - from her true feelings about certain storylines, to her bond with the Next Generation cast, to her favorite reveals in Picard. After some ‘inside baseball’ talk about our shared passion for podcasting, Gates shares terrifying stories of coming face-to-face with her stocker multiple times… before there were safeguards or laws that protected women from predatory men. We also talk about her love for David Bowie, her forgotten kiss with Bill Murray, and her time working alongside muppet master Jim Henson.

GATES MCFADDEN Shares Her Opinion on the Newest Season of STAR TREK: PICARD #insideofyou #gatesmcfadden #startrek #picard
Dude stop cutting her off! Let her speak!!
He's channeling Jimmy Kimmel.
He' is absolutely abysmal as a host. He must have friends or money because there's no other way I can understand how he gets guests.
You’re absolutely right, this guy like so many other bad interviewers loves the sound of his own voice.
@@maxiegrobner9018 I never quite said that. How can someone in the 21st century be so out of his depth & unfamiliar with such a well - known popular cultural institution unless they were *RAISED BY WOLVES ?* That's the question.
Loved Picard and Bev. My ship
Might have been helpful if anyone on staff had watched the series.
They must live like Ted Kaczinsky, the Unabomber. Or been RAISED BY WOLVES !
You gotta admire a podcaster who does zero research before having a guest on. It takes massive courage to be so blatantly lazy. Top tier.
But he makes up for it by interrupting constantly.
They both did it too each other it’s an unscripted conversation
@@r3v001 It's an interview. The interviewer shouldn't be interrupting constantly.
@@11C1P they were both interrupting it’s a conversational interview that’s not rehearsed sometimes people talk over each other when asking and answering questions, it’s not that big a deal…🤷🏽♂️
@@r3v001 I'm sure to a kid like you who doesn't know what a good interview sounds/looks like, it seems fine, but it's not.
I really appreciate the honesty of Gates McFadden throughout this interview. I definitely agree that Dr. Crusher felt so superfluous in the TNG films (and wasn't well utilized at many moments throughout the series), but I think she was also underutilized in Picard, too - there are some issues where her role is mostly confined to just being a mother once again (with little other facet to her character), but even that is oddly played because her direct relationship with Jack takes a backseat to Picard's relationship with Jack and we see fewer and fewer scenes of mother and son getting to be mother and son together. I blame some of that on a large, rather unwieldy cast (bringing back all of TNG's main crew except Yar and Pulaski, plus a couple returning characters from previous seasons of Picard and a few new ones) but also that general focus on Picard as the main character (it makes sense, the show is named after him, though it was similar for TNG and especially true for the movies, too). I think the format of the show (length of the season, very serialized storytelling) also contributed to this - another few episodes would've allowed more breathing room and opportunity to further delve into the character and how she's changed since TNG.
"STAR WARS EPISODE B, YOU HAVE TO BE SO EXCITED! WHAT CAN YOU TELL US?".
"What's the biggest reveal? What can you tell us?"... "dude it's been out for ages. It's over" ...😅 Good research there.
The prep work was not strong on this interview. 😂
bush league
@@superherofan1701 Even Jimmy Kimmel wouldn't be that slapdash in research.
@@superherofan1701 Yep. A missed opportunity to hear her perspective on the ending of the TNG era.
I really like this podcast because your questions are insightful, but I hope this is the last time you have a guest on without having watched their show. I found it embarrassing and disrespectful that you didnt even know the show was out, and if you had watched the series youd realize how absurd the question about reveals is because this season was a farewell song to TNG crew, so they went all out with surprises. But besides that, without watching the series what a lost opportunity to get really insightful questions across about a season that redefined the Star Trek franchise because of its twists and surprises. As a side note, of all shows you chose to do this with Star Trek, a show that has fans that know every milimiter of that universe, so this is particularly annoying to us. For us, is like having the cast of Avengers without having watched Endgsme. I hope you dont take this is an attack. As i said ive loved this podcast because of its depth but this was completely contrary to that.
I would expect someone who's worked in the comic book / sci - fi movie & tv industry to at least have SOME WORKING KNOWLEDGE of other franchises, even if they haven't WORKED in them. The Superman lore that Smallville was part of is as much a part of the pop culture fabric as Star Trek. Michael wasn't bringing his A - Game. A rare miss. Would he have been as sans clue about Babylon 5, THE EXPANSE, BSG ?
Mmmmm, I’d like to think that the people he has on are people he enjoys hanging out with. In that case I know for myself that my true friends don’t care if I know everything they’ve been up too, we are just enjoying the fact that for the time we are together we are having fun and some of the fun is finding out what they’ve been up too.
I think the ones that get offended are those that have big egos, in that case who cares. Those kinds of people are never happy.
@@richvail7551 There's a big difference between a group of friends "hanging out" and a podcast with thousands of listeners, Gates cleared some of her time to participate in this show, the minimum that is expected from the host is to watch the show he ask her questions about, it's just common professional etiquette, he made himself look unprofessional and by doing so he also embarrassed her, that's just not nice, it got nothing to do with ego.
I love that Picard and Crusher have son Jack. It was amazing that she was in front center. Love it.
Are we gonna get John delancy next or Michael dorm or Patrick Stewart
Sure did your homework on this one 🤨
Man, he really cr--ped the bed on this one. One would think that he had at least watched some Trek. What's next ? Invite Benedict Cumberbatch on & ask him about HOGWART'S ? Sheesh.
The biggest reveal was the Enterprise-D
the enterprisde-d coming for landing in in dr. crushers landing bay?
I love these interviews but I turned off 20 seconds in, dude, that was embarrassing
All these people saying do research and he gets the season correct right out of the gate but doesn’t know everything about her life and career… sheesh chill out a touch…🥴 how bout having guests on and asking questions to learn more about them…?👍🏽
Wait you don’t even have to watch the thing. You just say words. You don’t even care it’s hilarious. Why ask the questions
I had a few kids I didn't know about. It's pretty great really because I can turn up out of the blue and ask them for money.
Does anybody understand why this man is famous? Was he in a Geico commercial or something?
Internet says he was on Smallville. No idea why this podcast is famous, judging by this clip. 😐
I hate the Jack reveal as Picard's son. There's no way that what Beverly did could be okay. Picard lost his entire family in a fire, is it really a surprise that the man would be a little family shy?
And also he has an English accent... why? Just because he's Picard's (who's supposed to be French, btw) son? I really don't think that's how accents are transmitted lol.
@@john.premose Makes you wonder what else they are tinkering with when people use the transporter doesn't it.
"Okay chaps, let's make everyone a jolly good Englishman!"
Met her at a con a few years back....she was very unlikable! Figured she was having a bad day or what-not, but after going to other cons where she was at, kind of heard the same thing from other people.
I met her at a con just a couple of months ago, and she seemed lovely. She was kind, friendly, and funny.
Season 3 , is the best . Totally Fan based and focused on STAR TREK CHARACTERS & * not political agenda ; example, Kathleen Kennedy
Wow, she aged a lot. I still have the picture of the Enterprise crew from decades ago in my head. And Picard still looks the same.
Loved Enterprise.
Lol he does not look the same, he's an old man!
@@oldusernamewasbadlol He looks exactly the same. He looked like an "old man" decades ago.🤣
@@mirabella2154 yeah but he had about 50 less lines on his face then
She's aged gracefully. Whatever they did on the show, lighting or makeup, it made her look very different. She looks much more natural here.
It's been 30 years, dude. Do you look the same as you did 30 years ago?
new Star Trek is unoriginal garbage filled with great actors and easter eggs
