    i’m taking java 2 never seen that way of declaring classes before, in terms of having the public static void main inside of main class and then saying public static void in the monkey class instead of on the same line you declared the monkey class on. i’ll have to ask my professor about this.

  • @DivinityinLove
    @DivinityinLove 2 роки тому +1

    What I don't understand about objects and arrays is why do we need the obj[] THEN the name of the array? So it starts off obj[] myobjectarray/// or Monkey [] monkeys, why do we need the FIRST Monkey[]? What does that represent?

    • @darragh36
      @darragh36 7 місяців тому

      It represents the data type of the variable.
      Java is a statically typed language, which means you first need to explicitly specify the data type of a variable when declaring it (this is done so that the variable types are known at compile time rather than runtime).
      In this case, the type of the variable "monkeys" is an array containing Monkey objects, which is denoted by the typing the type of the objects (Monkey), followed by an opening and closing square bracket.
      Alternatively, you can type the brackets after the variable name, so it would be:
      "Monkey monkeys[] = {m1, m2, m3}"

      Overview of data and a better abstraction of the real world.
      For example a school is made out of rooms, teachers and studends. Rooms, Teachers and Studends could be arrays.
      int i = 0;
      for(Studends s : studentlist){
      if s.name = Thomas { i++ }
      }
      Sys.out(i);
      Result: See how many students you have with the first name "Thomas"

    But wouldnt it be better for the sake of simplicity to use an ArrayList? That way you wouldnt need to add every monkey manually to the array (If I remember correctly)

    • @hushinterlocutor7021

      One way is you could create a static ArrayList of monkeys in the monkey class and then in the Monkey constructor you do arrayList.add(this); so everytime a new Monkey is created, it automatically gets added to that arrayList and then when you want to access this arrayList you could just do Monkey.arrayList. But I find this more complicated and I dont even think its a good idea to use it like this.
