Woolly mammoths' extinction has contributed to Arctic warming because their grazing behavior helped maintain open grasslands that reflected sunlight and kept the permafrost colder. Without mammoths, trees and shrubs have grown in abundance, insulating the ground and trapping heat, which accelerates permafrost thawing. If mammoths were reintroduced, they could knock down trees and restore the grassland ecosystem, potentially helping to cool the Arctic, and the planet in general.

🎵... but he was brought back to life to his surprise in the 21st century! So listen as Phil take us back to wonders of long ago and weaves the tale of Woolyville and an ice age boy named Cro! 🎵
They will only go extinct again because of trophy hunting, and ivory poachers, not to mention lack of habitation to accommodate them. What good would it do to bring them back, only to have them live a cruel life in a zoo?
So it’s not really a mammoth 🦣
We are so back guys
So it will be a crossed breed
I say go for it, I would love to see this happen.
Who here wants to see a mammoth in their lifetime, i know I do?
I remember years ago Japan was doinh similiar thing, going to bring back a dinasour and then they had a major major earthquake and tsunami, that stopped that. There are some things you are not supposed to do.
What? Terrible idea
Terrible idea? Have you lost your mind? Woolly mammoths can restore habitats by grazing on vegetation
And then next the T Rex.
It would probably be the raptor. I seen the scientists say that would be easier to do
Nope, DNA breaks down over time and it's been 66 million years since dinosaurs went extinct so no
Introducing new species to new habitats always leads to an invasive species…why would you put one of the largest mammals in history, and just shove them out into the world just because you wanted to. So many irresponsible humans these days.
I will believe it when I see it, but then I really hope we don't see it because I don't think they can understand the full potential of harm they could cause, not only for people, but other living things. This could have a very bad reaction on a lot of life.
The plant life has changed so much. All the plants used to be enormous.
That's what is needed to sustain the lives of all the massive creatures from the past. That's why they're not around anymore.
If they do this, the poor creatures will have to live out their lives in captivity.
They are not thinking of the well being of the animals.
If you bring back the woolly mammoth can you bring back all extinct animals
Slightly off topic here, but does anyone know what king of bird that is @ 1:44 ?
It's a galah. It lives in Australia.
Cure cancer instead
All the people saying this is just a prelude to bringing back dinosaurs are just silly. Dinosaurs have been extinct for over 65 million years. Mammoths a few thousand years.
Seriously, why bring a species back from extinction that nature wiped out 13,000 years ago due to the Younger Dryas???? Well they did kind of survive a little bit after that event, but not for very long due to the dramatic climate changes at the end of the last Ice Age.
We've been stuck with this mammoth resurrection myth for over twenty years now 😂😂😂 This feels like more of the same.
Why don’t we protect the wild animals we have right now from the 6th mass extinction being caused by humans instead of bringing back prehistoric animals……
Technically, mammoth is still a modern animal. It went extinct relatively recently.
the return of the mammoth has been 5 years away since the 2000's iirc
WE GOT MY BOY MANNY COMING BACK BEFORE GTA6!!!!!!!
Why is it a few years away and not now? Forget ethics if you were a scientist capable of bringing back the dead then wouldn't you just do it now. It's like a situation where it's better to ask for forgiveness then permission.
i already found a land whale , my dads twin brother calls it wife...ugh
So your aunt...
We having a hard time keeping animals from being extinct, what makes them think we can bring one back and have it thrive in today’s world? Oh wait, CRISPR?
“Some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions.” - Dr. Alan Grant Jurassic Park 3
today: genetic engineer elephants to be bigger stronger
tomorrow: MASTER CHIEF
Haven't they been saying this for decades😂
I suppose it can adapt to modern environment instead of relying on ancient plants for diet.
the woolly mammoth went extinct only a handfull millenia ago, which geologically, is the blink of an eye, they fed on grass and herbs, not some sort of ancient plant stuff
Colossal is a for profit business. They will patent these creations and sell them to the highest bidders.
"You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it! Well--"
So they’re not creating real mammoths, they’re just cloning elephant cells and creating a similar hairy elephant
It’s like they never watched Jurassic park. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
“God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God.”
They been saying that for decades.
This is gonna change the world. Crichton was right
After this is brought to life, then what? I’m concerned about the well being of this soon to be mammoth. If they are responsible for creating a sentient being they are also responsible for quality of life. They need to be asked how they will handle this and be held accountable.
McDonald's is exploring the idea of properly serving mammoth burgers.
.....yes, but for what purpose? We don't have anything to feed it.
