- Broadcast on BBC Northern Ireland on St Patrick's Day - 17th March 1974. It was the opening sketch on a St Patricks Day Special which was James Young's last ever TV Broadcast. He passed on 5th July the same year, a massive heart attack while driving.
I remember watching this programme at the time, on a Saturday night so it was. Never thought I'd be posting a clip on UA-cam 43 years later lol. But you know stranger things happen let me tell ye ... ☺
I gather that Emily Beattie was played by Jean Lundy - not comedy actress Leila Webster who I had earlier posted. Thanks guys.
My mother had an LP of him with all the classics; The Stranger, I Married a Papist...he could have you weeping real tears one minute '....within these four grey walls/ And where the Hell's the Shankhill ? And where the Hell's the Falls ?' and weeping with mirth the next...
Jim was a neighbour of mine growing up in Ava Park.....me in 34 and him across the street in 43...........we spoke on a daily basis long before he became a Comedian........I left for Canada in 1957 but I did manage to talk with him in Vancouver around 1970. I reminded him of his Dad's funeral with the hearse and the black horses and also his dog, Bonzo, whom I was nicknamed after because we both had very blonde hair. He told me he was writing a book and I had brought up some events that he had forgotten about and, he told me he was building a house in Ballyhalbert. We never spoke again and I learned later that James had passed on.

just about rember when a kid 70s,,!
Lila Webster played Emily Beattie once but she got too many laughs and she was never asked back. Having watched this I can believe it. He liked the limelight.
Lila Webster didn't play Emily Beattie and Jimmy worked with Jean Lundy for years! (She played Emily Beattie) They were great friends.
Magz Sara you are talking nonsense.
@@irishravr632 I'm repeating what Lila Webster said in an interview..
