I’m a firm believer that a lot of Rolex ADs are selling the watches on the grey market so they can get more profit. Why else would their be hundreds of Daytonas or Rolexes in the grey market? There is no Rolex shortage, they are all in the grey market lol.
How do you explain the 132 Omega Silver Snoopy’s currently on Chrono24? Those watches are Omega Boutique exclusive watches only, they have only been out a couple of years (correction 3 years) and there are loads being flipped. Omega can directly control who gets to buy them via their boutiques. There’s no conspiracy, people that can make a quick profit sometimes do. It is possible that a couple of bad apple Rolex AD’s have sold a few watches out the back door? Yes it is. But the reality is that they get flipped by all brands where possible by people that can do it. It’s the general public flipping most of these.
Just to put some meat on the bones. There are 1800 or so Rolex ADs in the world. The outdoing Daytona has been out since 2016, there are 969 Daytona’s listed on chrono24. The Daytona was out for 7 years in two colours and is possibly the most sort after and flipable steel watch on the planet and there are 969 for sale. Where as the Omega Silver Snoopy sells from only 60 Omega Boutiques world wide and it is known to be limited supply but not a limited edition, it’s only been out 3 years and is highly likely to be made in much smaller numbers than the Daytona is. Rolex make way more watches per year than Omega do and the Snoopy is a low supply boutique only watch for Omega and yet they themselves can’t stop the watch being flipped from only 60 boutiques that they have way more control over.
Absolutely right. I learned this a year and a half ago when I walked into a watch shop (non Rolex AD) and they were fully stocked in all Rolex models, from Daytonas to GMTs… they had everything New/unworn at secondary market price of course. They were clearly being supplied, and still are, by several ADs.
Well it seems like they profit, and there's no punishment or even enforcement, so if you're a Rolex AD and you're not flipping new stock on the gray market you're basically saying no to free money right?
There's absolutely no doubt about it. The AD's are crooked, they're selling Rolex's out the back door and / or to celebrities. Your normal customer, or first time customer isn't getting one. I went into an AD and asked if I could buy a sub. I was laughed at and told: how I needed to "begin the Rolex journey with an OP" - imagine walking into a car dealership and being told "you can't buy a ford focus as your first car, you must buy a ford KA" - I walked out and went grey market. Looking back, I wish I bought Omega, because I now realised that I helped fund the grey market machine.
Exactly my question. This was more of a Rolex commercial than any kind serious comparison video. I’ve noticed this deceptive titling on a few videos from this channel so I think it’s time to black-list the channel for being a time-waister.
I went into Goldsmiths yesterday to add a Datejust 41 to my list as I thought I may stand a slightly better chance of getting one. Than the models I previously expressed an interest in. This watch purchase should get me a chance at getting a steel professional model I thought. I didn’t quite get a slap in the face, but the watch was added to my list and I was hurried out the shop as the assistant had someone coming in on an appointment. Apparently they don’t like you popping unannounced these days. Whatever next? Maybe a waitlist to be able to go into the AD to put your name down on the waitlist!
This is really bad now. So many places are like it. It’s a hang over from the lock downs IMO. They want you emailing the store to express an interest. They don’t want people visiting unless they have an appt. I’ve experienced the same in several ADs and several Holy Trinity boutiques in London. The tide is turning though, the prices are coming down and the buyers market is gradually coming back. Even “softer” brands in the after market have had it easy in recent years demand wise.
I can think of 67,000 plus reasons not to buy an AP too! 😂😂😂 Nice of that guy to try and spend MY money! I really appreciate it! The waiting list thing is the reason why I walked away from the Rolex AD and went into an Omega / Longines AD and purchased that day! If I want to play games, I’ll go back to nursery school. It’s telling time! You already charge retail prices thats too high for what you get…your competitors make watches as good or superior to yours. Oh well, no worries. I got what I needed, and still put 4K back in my pocket. 🎉
I missed that part too. This was more of a Rolex commercial than any kind serious comparison video. I’ve noticed this deceptive titling on a few videos from this channel so I think it’s time to black-list the channel for being a time-waister.
Omega makes watches; Rolex makes jewelry. The advantage that Rolex has over Omega is that not only does their watches look like jewelry in a good way (watches are the most broadly accepted jewelry for men) but they also make an amazing product that can compite head to head to Omega. Omega om the other hand has better pricing, availability and a brand identity that has not been tainted by flexers.
“took a fall from a motorbike on its owners wrist, ask me how I know” - ha ha ha ha, yeah, I had a Seiko that died in exactly the same way. Been there, done that.
Going to a Rolex dealer is figuratively just like the end of the video. By contrast, my wife and I recently went into an Omega dealer, were, at our request, shown the entire line of Speedmasters, and offered water, chocolates and espresso. They answered questions and most of all had inventory so we could actually purchase what we wanted at retail. The Rolex dealer wouldn’t even put me on their “list”.
I like the Apple Watch (I recently bought the Ultra 2). I use it to track health data and to quickly navigate through playlists while listening to music on the go. I’ve pretty much disabled all message and app notifications. I also wear it on the right wrist so I can wear my normal watches on my left wrist.
I stepped into an AD in Shanghai, China, this morning (02/10) and tried on a steel and gold, blue dial Submariner. I asked to be put on the waitlist and was told I might get the watch in a year. The saleman was very pleasant, allowed me and my missus to try on a variety of different models, including the GMT Master 2, Yachtmaster 2 in steel and for her, a ladies 28mm datejust, steel and gold, fluted bezel with chocolate dial and diamond markers. The take away, there is a wait list and I am on it. Quite a nice experience all round!
There isn't a wait list. There's a "preferred client list". I'll tell you what'll happen: If you keep visiting the store, within 6-12 months they'll magically get a ladies datejust. If you buy it, and then buy some other expensive crap in the store, they might....might give you a call for your GMT master within another 12-24 months (if you're lucky). I gave up on supporting the brand and will do business with companies who appreciate my custom.
I’ll die on the hill that my stainless steel apple watch with a croc leather black strap with a butterfly clasp using the world time face can be very formal
I use a smartwatch because I need to track basic things like heart rate and steps. But I have loved traditional clocks and watches since I was little. My solution to this dilemma is to wear a traditional watch on my left wrist, and the smartwatch on my right wrist. 🙂 Just discovered your channel, by the way. I like your style very much compared to other watch-oriented channels. I hate channels where the host has to show you tHeY hAvE pErSoNaLiTy, loud and clear, when you can just be yourself, share interesting facts with wit and humour, and let the audience realise how good your channel is when they get to the end of the videos. If I recall correctly he bought the Daytona at an overseas base PX. At least through the 80s you used to be able to get a Rolex through the military PX/BX system overseas for about 30% less than you could get one at a US AD. He then got another 10% off because most military wanted a Sub, GMT, or OP/Datejust/Presient. If they didn’t have one in stock at your local base you just ordered it through the mail and got it in a week or so…
Yup. There's another Antiques Roadshow episode where a guy stationed in Germany picked up a first-edition GMT Master for $134.00. Worth a bit more now.
Andrew you forgot to mention that nobody ever wanted the Daytona up until a few years ago when the newman sold at auction. Now people go crazy for them like thy are all the actual watch of newmans that sold.
Just so you know, dishwashes with a second job in the US cannot make $2700 take home😮 so you must be doing pretty good in England. You can’t even get a one bedroom apartment for 1500.
@@JustMeTalking it all makes sense now. The English reputation for weakness in the culinary arts is because of a general confusion as to which jar contains salt and which contains sugar.

Poor Rolex, they’re such a lovely company that value their customers above and beyond any other company, as they show by allowing them the supreme honour of buying one of their products - though I’m sure not even the big R have reached the level of offering a slap around the face as a free gift quite yet…

The compass trick rarely works well. Too many variables at play for universal rules across a hemisphere. You'd do better just knowing the time of year and where the sun should be in the sky for your latitude and which way its moving.

You should make a video about selling an Omega VS selling a Rolex as well....🤣...it is quite different too. Love both brands and own both as well.

I actually think Omega's are often prettier and nicer to wear.

(The clip is the spy watch one)
Love when you hit Tom…never gets old!
Cereal, milk? Farley's Rusks, babies?
Why would I want a Rolex? My brain hurts.
That was hilarious. Great video old son😂😂😂😂
Love the ending. That exactly how i feel when i walk into a rolex.
I agree, ADs have screwed ROLEX big time. The grey market are a side business for ADs. I hope ROLEX controls their watches moving forward.
Great Rolex ending!
I use a smartwatch because I need to track basic things like heart rate and steps. But I have loved traditional clocks and watches since I was little. My solution to this dilemma is to wear a traditional watch on my left wrist, and the smartwatch on my right wrist. 🙂

Are you unwell ?
If your not stop making excuses
I just don't think I'd take a Rolex into combat.
Now, a Garmin Instinct 2X Tactical is a very different story.
The short of buying Rolex vs Omega is funny and sadly true
Annoyingly the video didn’t do any sort of comparison between the two, as the title would lead you to believe. Rolex commercial.
Very enjoyable. As always. 👍👍👍
You’re the best, Andrew
I got force choked for asking to go on a waitlist! So accurate!!
"This is the SAS Explorer II".... shows standard Explorer II with engraving done by a local sports store, and an aftermarket caseback made in China.
