Bass is the FISH pronunciation, not the guitar! Didn't you even pay attention to Mega Man 8's cutscenes and that commercial for Mega Man and Bass for the North American GBA?
Mega Man Battle Network. Garbage characters and storylines. Basically was made to capitalize on Pokemon's popularity. I watched that cartoon, and holy moly, it's much worse than the Ruby-Spears continuity (based on the main series), let alone a Jonny Quest or a Centurions.
My first play through when it dropped (was young) I sucked and gave up. Came back 2 years later, beats the game and loves it. Wish they made a second that added styles, souls or crosses.
Zero is criminally underused in Battle Network and should have stuck around longer. But you did overlook the fact that he can be saved and become a Navi.
I feel bad for ARIKA because they weren't used to this kind of game. It's staff was former capcom employees from the street fighter series ("ARIKA" is reversed from "Akira Nishitani", their founder and one of the creators of Street Fighter 2, the other one was also named Akira lol). They wanted more creative freedom and left to their own company, and duh they made more Street Fighter games. They def weren't used to making stuff like this.
Yeah, the gameplay was clunky. I know they wanted to Put The Battle Network series into the 2D roots line the classic series but I’m upset how instead of getting the 2D platformer that Japan got every other country on earth got this half baked 2D platformer on the GameCube.
You know there’s RPGs that exist where you don’t have to grind? Like play the Kingdom Hearts games on normal if you’re decent at them or easy if you just want to chill. Or any RPG that has easy settings like Persona games are perfect if you don’t want to grind just pick easy or very easy. Persona 5 even has a safety mode where you really can’t lose
i like the game. the maxed out damage charge buster is actually pretty godly. stuff like double jump and star arrow are cool because they can really change how you tackle stages. most bosses are deliberately designed to require some more thought than just damage trading like in classic megaman. its primary issue is the custom gauge and a few chips like popup that are way overtuned. fireman is a bit too tough for a starting boss, and maybe quickman should be a later boss too, but doing needleman into iceman into laser man into quick man gives you probably the best onboarding experience. It not requiring the player to collect every chip to 100% is actually a very nice change of pace, navi-completion really is all that ever should have been expected from the games. I'll probably replay it soon. also use chips. this isnt megaman, its BN.
@@StuffWePlay it really is, I wouldn't have given it a second look had it not been for your video on it. Due to its' similarities to NT, i initially dismissed it as just another garbage lol
WS really is the superior game. I've spent too much time with it. The chip system was way more palletable and I really like pixel art more than the cell shaded style.
Only megaman game I ever beat and I loved it. Not at first it was too hard, eventually got the hang of it and loved it…you didn’t mention about how you could do program advanced and i guess you didnt fight bass…that was the biggest accomplishment of the game crazy secret boss
Program advances were stupidly ridiculous to setup usually requiring you to waste your entire chip folder to finally get all the correct chips in the same “chip drop” (don’t know what else to call it, lol). I never found a situation that needed them.
wait people find this game hard? i thought it was ridiculously easy except the final stage but its not that hard either, still loved this game is a lot of fun
@@memberofchat2825 There is a HUGE difficulty spike not too far into the game with Bright Man and Quick Man. Bright Man is the first to have the stupid shield mechanic (that on a recent emulator replay I couldn't even remember how to bypass it). Quick Man has the insta kill lasers that almost require a very obscure chip from the ghost enemies from the area that used to be on fire to have a chance to get past them.
This game was a bold and creative mix between classic and Battle Network MegaMan. Aside from the overtuned difficulty at the start, it's plenty of fun. And I have to be the one to flat out deny the points presented at 7:40 as accurate. A fully upgraded MegaMan in this game doesn't even need cannon-like chips, the buster alone is enough, except when it comes to those Life Aura enemies.
Mixing rpgs with other genres isnt cooking, its baking - There is a very RIGHT and WRONG way to do things, and using the wrong types/amounts of ingredients will leave you with something inedible
Honestly, this was my favorite game in the series lol. I thought it did a good job of combining elements of the classic and BN games. I agree that the difficulty is badly balanced though, the early game is unforgiving and requires grinding to overcome the disadvantage
actually i loved this game, definitively a flaw it has is that it doesnt tell the player how to use the game mechanics properly, but if you persevere and learn them its a great game, fireman and gutsman once you learn their patterns they are actually fairly easy, there are harder bosses like brightman or quickman.
I personally loved this game when I got it back in the day as an mmbn fan. But I cannot deny the flaws this game has either. Like you said, fireman and gutsman are pretty strong bosses for the beginning of the game. Also an flaw in the battle against Zero.EXE is his charged undodgeable attack. He charges and does 2 slash attacks in succesion wich just fills the WHOLE screen. The only way to get no damage from it is by using an invincibility chip or somehting like that. And who knows, maybe I would not hold it in such a high regard if I had played the wonder swan version first or at all in my life.
I think the chip system is better in Network Transmission. Like you, I also found the front loaded difficulty insurmountable when I was younger but I recently played through Network Transmission again and I learned to really really love it. The secret was to start our farming Cannon chips and registering it so you always get it until you max out Power and Charge. Difficulty is definitely front loaded though and traversing the internet became a lot more fun once I had more than 2 or 3 uses of any given chip.
This game is like Mega Man X6. The game is complete garbage but the music is awesome. I was never a fan of the Mega Man Battle Network series. They are RPGs which is a genre I never liked.
Don't forget *Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.* Another awesome OST wasted on a garbage game. *Laura Branigan, Metal Shark Player* and *Shadow Man.EXE* deserve better. Never was a fan of most Super Mario OST's, so I'd say one of those Mario games would have been a better home for those songs.
I know people like to take a dump on this game, and the game kinda deserves it, but I personally like it. The music is obviously great but some of the boss fights i actually liked, like Pharaohman and Protoman. The Bass fight was to me too bothersome, and even fireman was just weird to fight, but the stage environments, for being a gba game being brough to "3D" from a series always known to be 2D side scrolling, it was neat. I'd call it a "cool loser" of a game.
I think it can be enjoyed without playing BN1 if you're only here for the gameplay. But if you're playing for the story, then I recommend going through at least a story summary of BN1. I haven't seen the anime, but I do believe it differs from the games enough to not be considered to be in the same canon.
No wonder why you barely if ever hear about this game. You'd expect this to be such a winning formula but just looking at the level design seen here just makes me feel sad. A bit shame this idea was such a terrible game. At least the music is rad.
Is as bad as Zelda 2, tried to be different and the difficulty curve is crazy. But after the struggle, you see that's not a bad game, is misunderstood... And the plot was sadly disposable, never to be mentioned again in the series
Well, it's MegaMan, not like we were expecting a work of Shakespeare. As for the gameplay, I hated it as a kid, and grown to like it as an adult. It's a pretty creative mix of BN and classic MegaMan, the difficulty is simply excessive for the first 4 or so bosses... But I think it just makes the game more unique, things get manageable once you progress a bit, and by the end of the game, a properly upgraded MegaMan feels like a powerhouse.
I think you may be a little too hard on the game. yes it has its issue but its just REALLY a genre change. If you cannot handle the platforming change just dont play the game.
Even people who love MM&Bass mostly agree that the GBA version sucks. The most positive thing I have heared about it was effectively "It's not too big of a deal, if you memorized some leveldesign". Not exactly high praise.
I like video games. I like your channel. Subscribed! Do I really wanna get this game, though? It looks the kind of game like I'll be throwing my controller at the wall out of frustration lol

It's insanely underrated is what it is.
We can definitely agree to disagree here haha
@Chaos Leviatho Agreed.
@Chaos Leviatho I loved it as well
Wish that capcom would release that damn Japanese exclusive version of the exact same game engine in the USA
@@dennismoose2152 ....Huh? What exclusive version?
As a fan of both the original series and the MMBN series, I actually liked Network Transmission a lot.
I've only played through the game once and I never even knew he could die 😅 This video is how I found out
I feel bad for ARIKA because they weren't used to this kind of game. Blame Capcom for being (mostly) hands OFF with this game.
Zero can be saved in this game, leading to a different ish ending.
I just wish I could hear Zero.exe scream "What am I fighting foooooooor!"
My mom brought this home when she saw me get really into megaman. It took me forever to beat, but it was so obscure.
Yeah, the gameplay was clunky. I know they wanted to Put The Battle Network series into the 2D roots line the classic series but I’m upset how instead of getting the 2D platformer that Japan got every other country on earth got this half baked 2D platformer on the GameCube.

It's incredible how much more competent the WS counterpart is compared to this
I hate to use the term, but the WS game really is a hidden gem

Arika is a good dev. I respect releases like Fighting EX layer and Tetris: The Grandmasters.
Network Transmission is yyyyyyyyyyyyyikes, though.
They designed this like the classic Megaman games. Yeah, I laughed when it looked like Lan was doing all of this from his room. LoL.

Not in videogames. That's not true.
1:38 is that Wilhelm scream In the game itself lmao
Nah I edited it in
14:35 That screen though! I imagine a backlit screen mod would be nice. Great video as always
The screen is definitely crungy!

They actively play this game in Japan…. hardcore too check em out
This brings me back so many hours spent loved it
never forgotten because of how hard it was
One of the best GameCube games and best Megaman games I ever played. Gosh I miss this one.
Nearing the end of the game. It was extremely hard but I enjoyed it
2003 was Capcom's dark age tbh.
More like after inafune left Capcom...
Interesting video. Oddly I never even heard of this game
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Maybe a Megaman rpg/platformer hybrid would work better if they tried it again with Star Force
I think I saw a Japanese fangame that attempted to do Starforce in an 8-bit platformer format a few years back. I wonder if anything came from it?
I know people like to take a dump on this game, and the game kinda deserves it, but I personally like it. What was that game at the end though?
One Step From Eden
is the english WS cart custom?
Yup!
Graphically it looks great background foreground everything looks fantastic for a 2.5D game which x7 and X8 should have went
Aw man, One Step is my jam!
Hell yeah
i only watchet the anime when i was a kid
without know NOTHING about the first game
can i play this one? or i really miss something very important?

How to play phantom network ?

Mega Man and Bass for the GBA was awesome!!!!! Don’t talk about Mega Man games you obviously don’t know ish.
I did a whole video on MM&B a year back and why I don't like it and played both versions multiple times in recording that and I still don't like it
