These kinds of responses shows a lack of understanding of free markets. If people do lose their jobs and go broke as you say, they would lose all their buying power and the whole economy would grind to a halt, who would Apple sell all those expensive iPads to?
Everyone is always so incredibly shortsighted that they don't realize that the general population has incredible power as a group. It's in no businesses best interest that they lose their revenue streams.
The bottom line is that you can't stop progress, I'm sure plenty of peasants cried about the introduction of mechanization to agriculture, nobody cares, the world will evolve and adapt. You aren't owed a job, you are a human being with a brain, X is right, figure it out.

youd have to use the UBI to generate more money through a business that provides a solution or service to others (because that's never going away) or probably by investing into the tech centers that power the AI that took your job and you get more money as they make higher profits because of said investment.

"Low skill jobs" aren't going to be as fucked by AI as traditionally "high skill jobs".
Look at the software engineering job market. This will continue to get wors, and effect more traditionally "high skill jobs".
They do, they just don't have access to an economy where these jobs are viable. Even living in the suburbs is a disadvantage in America to getting a high paying job, I couldn't image how much worse it would be in literally anywhere else. some of them for sure, but definitely not all.
Programming is a good example of this. Most people think that its just about "writing some code", but in fact its about solving business problems, and code is just one way of doing so. Yes, junior programmers will be replaced in the next ~5-10 years, but anything more complex (precise, what weak AI mostly cannot do rn, only strong AI (AGI) can) is not in any danger. At least until AGI isn't created, but in this case it doesn't matter anymore.
In later stage, as it harder to script such jobs. Work force will be first to go, since it's simple and it is already happening, next will be entertaiment and service (restaurants etc.).

Where are the 420 million jobs that those people can now do instead? Let's even say they do get a new job, but that one gets automated too and now those 420 million + whatever amount of workers were ALREADY in that job, all need to find new work. What kind of jobs are you left with if everything that isn't too complex for AI gets automated away?
This is why there would need to be unprecedented government aid, unless we just let a huge portion of the population die because they can't financially support themselves. If general AI does get developed, I think we need to move away from money entirely or generate some kind of universal income that's probably going to be funded with increasing taxes on companies that use AI.

However, his point was that it would be beneficial in the long term if humans could focus their efforts towards more important goals. Theoretically, it would positively change the world in the long run if more humans could work on important issues like cancer or other illnesses that kill millions. Also I would argue that most people would find it safer to have a robot or ai that can perfectly perform a surgery rather than human that could make a mistake. And of course that means humans aren’t going to be able to keep jobs indefinitely. I think that just means we will need to change how we receive and require currency.

It depends on the situation. Generally technology doesn't destroy jobs at the same rate as it creates them. Computers created a ton of new jobs and infrastructure. AI isn't creating enough jobs is the issue. Not jobs that the average person can do anyway. The job destruction to creation ratio is skewed too much. It's instead gonna result in mass unemployment and drag down the economy further. The replaced employees have always been the collateral. This time won't be different. But this time it'll be wayyy harder to find someplace to go. They're mostly gonna end up dead.

When we get to that point, the world will look completely different to how it looks today so I can't prophesize how everything will work but after time progresses everything humans need or want will essentially be free.

The majority of jobs that automation will be replacing are low skill labor/minimum wage job. This will reduce costs for the consumer. In most cases it isn’t as if the jobs being replaced were from people who worked their whole lives learning a craft/trade. Anyone can bag groceries or be a cashier. The phasing out of low skilled labor will be slow enough so they can tell ahead of time they’ll need to pursue a new career. It doesn’t happen overnight. Most minimum wage jobs are held by people under 25. Again affirming that they haven’t invested a lifetime into a trade/craft meaning the loss of a job won’t be as difficult as would be for someone who invested time, money and energy into pursing. Low skilled labor requires energy, not time or money. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be sympathetic to people who are losing their job. It’s never easy. We shouldn’t however stifle innovation to preserve jobs that will ultimately be replaced by more fulfilling, higher earning jobs.
Sometimes people work not for the sake of working, they work beacause they enjoy their jobs. You dont need to replace that. Working can be boring sometimes but not having to work is also boring. That is life.

Something in his frontal lobe is damaged. Without these brain dead jobs, people with lower level skills, will not qualify for these high end jobs. If college and education wasn’t such business for money, then it’d probably make sense. Just go to school and get an education and apply it somewhere. However this isn’t this case. People literally work these jobs so they can survive, not prosper.

There are some professions that are going to be harder to replace than others.
For example: laborers, people who do maintenance / repairs on utilities in other peoples homes/businesses, things like that.
When robotics gets to the point that those jobs are replacable (and its cost effective to just buy robots), we really probably wont need anybody to work at all.

What will you say once AI learns how to fully code, once it can improve and monitor itself and put even you - the maker out of a job? We try to humanize AI to what point? That it actually becomes aware like some fkn Ultron from Marvels, starts launching nukes on our own planet as it rides off into the galaxy we dreamed to explore because it can thanks to us ''giving it life'' ? I am reaching here, perhaps, or am I ?
Where exactly do we as humans draw the line and say ''yea that's too far'', and once we do, will it really even matter, will our voices be heard anymore? Moreover, would we at all be heard if we went out on the streets right now and all as one started to riot against further AI development/integration into our society/jobs? I doubt it.
Unlike X, I'm at least self aware enough to admit that full AI intergration into humanity is probably the inevitable future - but I'm also smart enough to acknowledge the fact that this will be end of all humanity which isn't good.
There will be more people doing labor work and tough work some people can’t handle, I work construction and I’d imagine there would be way less people working because there’s no easier job for them, I doubt any ai will replace shelf stockers for a long time so this argument falls flat

other way around at 05:00. what we need is to automate the human made jobs like he said with data entry, ordering/sales jobs, and people could start growing crops again across the country, community based jobs like local entertainment, local enforcement, local clubs and tons of random other shit u can think of like make things like mining easier and safer with modern structural tech capabilities or development into power types and varieties / other ways for people to be more self sufficient and therefore get a tax break or even paid by the gov for such a lifestyle since wages from work will be reduced from the machination of those jobs

Technology and automation are supposed to make processes more efficient and CHEAPER. The prices of things have never gone down though. That's why AI will be a bad thing.
His fundamental point is correct. I don't see people complaining that they aren't forced to do subsistence farming just to survive because we have tractors and combines that can do the work for us. I don't see people complaining that they can't go into the mines with pickaxes and a shovel all day because now we have massive earth moving excavators to do the work for us. He is saying that economies adapt when massive productivity boosts eliminate a field of work, and throughout history they always have. Only if all or near all possible labor is automated is a UBI necessary, because then there truly won't be any work for people to move to. It blows my mind that this guy xqc is talking to and half of chat doesn't have the basic competence to understand that.
Really dumb takes. Yeah technology should replace shit jobs, but the thing thats scary is how fast this is going to happen. When someone is fluent in 4-5 languages. Their whole career is translating and a technology comes that can do it in real time without delays perfectly you start to get scared of your job (and it happens in half a decade). Pretty obvious to everyone who worked a real job and didnt get a 100 million dollar contract for being entertaining and good at videogames.
Or people working in tech support, call centers, cashiers, artists, potentially diagnosticians, lawyers, teachers etc.
And the reason why its scary is because most people are utterly fucked even if they're without a job for a month.

well then again those stories were made dystopian to be entertaining, nobody would watch a show where everything is a utopia and going well so you cant really describe it as foreshadowing the future
@@dddddd1577 Only unlike most stories, these ones in some form will probably actually land. There's plenty movies about zombies, could that have been a thing? If we put just as much effort into creating a zombie virus as we do into creating AI that replaces us - I'd say yeah, some the walking dead could've also been a crazy foreshadow. And who knows, maybe it will be? Since C-19 someone out there has now solid knowledge on how to create an airborne virus that can infect the entire globe rapidly. Now figure out how to combine C-19 rapid airborne spreading abilities with Rabies and we got ourselves the walking dead irl.
I think their argument is overly simplistic, so let me break it down. Imagine you're a labor worker making coffee for a living. Once an AI robot replaces you, the only "wage" it needs from the employer is energy. This means the cost of making coffee would drop to just the price of coffee beans. Then, after a short time, the coffee bean market also becomes automated by AI, reducing the cost of coffee from $5, made by a human barista, to just 20 cents.
Next, creative people, who no longer need to do labor jobs and are free to think and innovate, discover new energy sources for transporting the beans. As a result, the cost of coffee drops to $0 because no energy is required to make it. Of course, this process will take time, which is part of the cycle XQC was talking about.
I kind of agree with xQc. If AI takes over some jobs, then the next generation will (for example) have more electricians, mechanics, engineers and plumbers. Which are all very important jobs for society and we always need more people in those work forces. New technology taking over jobs has been happening ever since the industrial era. Factories were once packed with workers doing simple repetitive tasks, then machines replaced them, and a lot of people lost their jobs. This is not new, and has happened many times before.
