" I traded my own wisdom for a jury of my peers". My Quiet Friend is some grown up shit, thank you Pedro the Lion
My favorite Dave moment was him telling an entire crowd at a San Francisco show to not feel superior to anyone else. He reminded everyone that they aren't there because they deserve it and that everything is luck. We weren't born with disabilities, into poverty, and that everyone has unearned advantages. Therefore, we shouldn't look down at the poor, homeless, and addicted all over the city. Such a powerful, impactful, sincere, and caring moment.
Eric Walters deserves an award for the guitar wizardy in the second verse of this song. So hauntingly beautiful!!!
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona in the 70's. I've never had the experience of a man capturing precisely my experience of torture in elementary and high school that lead to alcoholism until this album was published. Mercifully, I got sober at 24, but damn if this song didn't catapult me straight back to fifth grade. I was 8 when I got my bike that was stolen. It was green. So much gratitude to David for this work.
"Quietest Friend" debuted at #28 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
I never comment on youtube videos, but I have to say I cannot get enough of this song. Every time I listen it means something deeper and more personal to me.
I am the quiet friend. But I know ive hurt quieter friends. I love this song
The fact that Pedro The Lion is making a comeback makes me beyond happy. I discovered PTL in 2001 in high school and have never stopped listening to David (or TW for that matter). His work has helped me through some of the darkest parts of my life and touched me in a way no other music could. I've met David a couple times over the years at shows and each time he has been nothing but kind, polite and welcoming of everyone who wanted to meet him and share a few words. If anyone truly deserves to be successful in what they do its David. Pedro The Lion will ALWAYS have a place in my heart and my library.
@Bstyles85 Have a great day :)
@Bstyles85 Nothing passive aggressive whatsoever, I don't care to argue or sling insults at somebody i don't know.
@Bstyles85
@darthsob I don't know what side of the bed this other person woke up on but I like your story :) Decided some positive vibes could be added here :P
Dear Dark Lord of the Sniff...les, Darth Sob, I feel you. Menos El Oso is for me one of those autobiographical bodies of music that's less a catalog and more a calender of the halcyon days of the millenial inaugural decade. It summons the image of her dilapidated but dauntless azure SUV, the stenciled spray paint of the enormous lion she lovingly applied across the entire hood("It HAS to be Goldenrod!"), the spot on the lion's bottom that both Bazan and T-Dub Walsh graciously autographed, and the sublime smile that kept until long after the hours of driving home. So much of my musical taste sprouted from those years spent with that Singular Woman. They remain my happiest memories. I shall regret nothing more in my life than foolishly squandering what we shared, followed closely by never having the guts to tell you how much I loved you, Furfer.
The Red Hoodie Strikes Back
This is so good that I'm crying.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I cry every. Single. Time. I listen to this.
Best song from 2019 so far..
I agree, I think this one will still be in my Top 5 at the end of the year.
icelander?
Sweden!
This song is haunting. A genius way of capturing childhood emotions. However rated this band is, it’s UNDERRATED. Been a fan past 10 years
I just feel this song...all over and again....❤❤❤
Man I haven’t listened to them since control came out. This is good. I didn’t know tom segura could sing and play either
Awesome continuity with Yellow Bike! Love it.
I love Pedro the Lion, it's my all time favorite band... I know it's kinda cliché but, please come to Brazil. Hahahahahah
Sim
Siiiim
simmmmmm
Pronto, já tem 4 pessoas pra ir no show no Brasil hahaha
Tb vou.
I love this song. Reminds me of my friend who ended his life and his lack of love and outlets. Such deep moving beautiful tones
Incredible Track - touches anyone who's lived.
I’m glad the band is back together and making new music. I’ve been a fan since the “Winners Never Quit” album. I’m looking forward to the show at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC.
You don't have to tell me
How hard it must have been
For you to let me in
Nothing lasts forever
Now I understand
I hurt you again
My quietest friend
In 2001 I named my cat after this guy.
your cat's name is david? lol.
DB
This reminds me of really good old Five-Eight, which is about the highest compliment I think I can pay!
This man is the biggest influence on my music.
It's not out yet lol almost
Fun fact I hold this song very close to my heart.
This song threw me right back into grade school in the 90s. I want to give my old self a hug and tell him he doesn’t have to toughen up and become so jaded.
Staving off rejection, which always hurt like hell
I took the devil's bargain, made a stranger of myself
If anything was wrong, I couldn't tell
So I didn't see it coming but now it's pretty clear
I traded my own wisdom for a jury of my peers
I ignored you for thirty years
You don't have to tell me
How hard it must have been
For you to let me in
Nothing lasts forever
Now I understand
I hurt you again
My quietest friend
Fifth grade in the lunchroom, fickle friends were telling jokes
Making you the punchline of some random thing I wrote
They were looking to me to land the final blow
Just to be included, went straight up to my head
I thought the joke too stupid for it to matter what I said
I was wrong but I went along with it
You don't have to tell me
How hard it must have been
For you to let me in
Nothing lasts forever
Now I understand
I hurt you again
My quietest friend
We could write me some reminders
I'd memorize them
I could sing them to myself
And whoever's listening
I could put them on a record
About my hometown
Sitting here with pen and paper
I'm listening now
Wow! Really respect his work, but first time his music really grabbed me! Dope song!!
Listen to Control.
Yo this reminds me of Twin Peaks when Cooper is being chased by his doppelgänger
How did I not know Pedro The Lion released a new album? Achilles Heel is one of my all-time favs. What an awesome surprise!
Best song ever
This is the most beautiful song I've heard in a long time. Thanks.

pedro revisits the suburbs of our lives!
Wonderful rock'n'roll indie riffs and fantastic guitar and drum sound, wonderful choruses and harmonies. Quietest Friend, Clean Up and Yellow Bike are the pearls of a great production. Everything is right where it belongs and without haste. Greetings from good old Germany.

Great job man
The hallway and stage scenes were filmed at The Hotel Congress in Tucson, where on January 25, 1934 John Dillinger (along with some of his gang) was captured by the local police
"Goliath had tears in his eye."
(...so David slayed him with kindness to not destroy his all seeing eye. An eye that did not disclude.)

aka Goaleyeth
I just realized this song reminds me of one of the greatest unsung musicians ever playing shows while unv@xxed fans listen through the cracked front door.
not even 100k, underrated...
Dayum!!! 💓
Song still bangs. Hope we got some songs like this on Santa Cruz.
David e la sua anima
Someone that could explain the song? I'm not american, thanks!
Essentially as a boy he gave into peer pressure and joined in to the bullying and making fun of another person his age. This song is his confession to that and a public apology for his behavior as an adolescent.
I do believe that he’s talking about a relationship with the God of his childhood. He lost faith as a boy, turned away from God, and is now reflecting on the nature of this 30 year break in the relationship as he takes a moment to reconnect. “Phoenix”. Rebirth.
So, is that Hotel really haunted? Great Song, BTW
wow didn't even know this guy was still around...
It was the summer of 2003, I had just lost my dog and my woman. The sunsets didn’t seem the same anymore. Just kidding, none of that happened. I was just seeing who this band was opening up for death cab.
Banger!
Oh, you're so trendy! Try expanding your vocabulary a bit.
I didn't know tom segura had a band
Someone post the lyrics pls :) :(
sold out the plain black T for hoodies?

Anyone need 🔥 beats? I am a beat maker myself and used to work as a graphic designer as well.
@@GentleLentil127 Thank you I appreciate it 💯👍 KontactRecords.com
His voice sounds old.
I mean... people age. Weird, right?
@@kingcobrajfsofficial yeah but there are singers that sounds the same 20 years later. Weird right?
i dont hear old. i hear refined.
an aging voice is not a problem. leonard cohen is a good exemple
@@jeromeislegend0569 ...was there a point to literally anything you've posted thus far? Great, he sounds old. Astute observation. Yes, some other singers don't sound old. Stop the presses!
heartfelt song. love me some bazan. but sorry to say: lame video. im sure it was easy to shoot. but the concept doesnt go anywhere. you need a better director.
looks like funding issue
@@jamesjackson5569 its not the budget i have a problem with, or the production values. its the concept. it doesn't go anywhere.
Disagree. I freaking LOVE IT. Green hoodie protagonist Dave returns to his childhood apt building (I'm guessing that's the setting) and confronts his disowned feeling self/inner child, who runs from him. (The little boy on a bike doing circles around him is more literal, but also incredibly affecting.) It's that disowned (red hoodie) self who first picks up the guitar. In the end, they do come to face one another by the railroad tracks...my only complaint is that I probably would have had green hoodie Dave embrace red hoodie Dave...but that would have made me REALLY lose it (as if I hadn't already). In the end green hoodie Dave (having integrated the other) is singing about what the two of them are going to do together - write the Phoenix album. Did I say I FREAKING LOVE IT?
@@presentfuture7563 but that's just it. it doesn't GO anywhere. Nothing comes of the elements they set up. They don't embrace, or confront each other, or come to terms with each other or anything. NOTHING happens in the end. So the story elements I invested in as an audience member, are just signifiers with no journey. The director half baked a good idea. didn't follow through. This video director just didn't make or break any of the expectations set up in the story. in my books that's intellectually and aesthetically lazy. which is such a shame for this powerful song. PS I love this song. I love Bazan. I love this album.
@@michaelscholar Gotcha. Maybe it's enough that green finally gets a good long look at red. I'm big on the cathartic visual metaphors myself which is why I would have liked something more demonstrative, but what they did here doesn't really bother me, and maybe it's closer to the real experience. Healing doesn't usually happen dramatically and all at once.
nothing new here, move along....
That's the response we had about your comment, bucko.
You're going to get lambasted for this comment, but you're right. This is every PTL song and this album isn't breaking any new ground.
@@russelcow1793 I've earned my right to critique music
@@GentleLentil127 did you study music at a university level?
@@GentleLentil127 you do realize lyrics aren't music, right?
Damnnn i love this song
