- When Severe Preeclampsia gets complicated it causes grand mal seizures, & may lead to eclampsia.
Mgso4 is the drug of choice it controls the seizures but not the blood pressure.
The 2 regimen for administration of Mgso4 is Pritchard & Zuspan Regimen.
Pritchard is IM & IV method
Zuspan is IV Method
Calcium gluconate is the drug to reduce magnesium toxicity.
Antihypertensive drugs to be given to control the blood pressure, these are-
- Labetalol
- Hydralazine
- Nifedipine
The definitive treatment is the delivery of the baby.
