Obviously a Villa fan & my personal opinion is we *”SHOULD”* abolish it, with the semi automated offsides next season that’s all we need along with hawk eye, but scrap the VAR because almost all the decisions are subjective anyway.
100% Luke, we caught a lot of teams offside with our high line like by far the most time this season in the league. No way im gonna trust random linos to make 3mm offside calls 😂
Interestingly, Olympiacos had 2 goals the linseman ruled offside, that VAR then overturned and gave as goals. Plus without VAR linesmen will go back to giving defenders the benefit of the doubt and flagging more.
Var has been great for us this season... how many times has it saved us quite rightly ... also have to say massive thank you to luke and Justin etc on UTV podcast ... best villa podcast imo been great seeing what's happening at the villa as I don't get to go many games it's been a vital service for me Thank You UTV
VAR should be for stuff that's black and white not subjective. Offside is on or off, no opinions so no issues (just speed it up). Limit VAR to reviewing red cards, penalties, goals and nothing else. Get rid of the monitors and have the refs ask specifically to check something, eg "I'm giving a goal but did the striker push the defender, yes or no?"
I'm not sure I agree with you Luke, apparently we would be 7pts better off this season if there was no VAR. I understand what your saying but its killing the enjoyment of celebrating a goal especially inside the ground
@UTVPODCAST I read we would of had another 7 pts without var lol, but I do agree playing that high line we are probably better off having it. Its these stupid lines that you can't even see daylight that they are checking for 5mins + that ruins it. Its needs overhauling in my book, imagine Martinez suffering a serious injury cos the linesman keeps his flag down even though its a blatant offside but play has to carry on....martinez thinks he needs to pull of a world class save, gets injured, then the linesman just raises his flag for offside after the passage of play has beeb completed....it doesn't make sense to me
I'm a villa fan and i want it scrapped and never to return. It has ruined the enjoyment of football. Will refs make mistakes? Yes, they're human. Will they go against us? Yes, but it was way more fun. The soul of football is slowly dying, look at 90% of football teams, all robotic no one really stands out like they use to VAR is still run by humans, still based on opinion when decisions are made. Players are abusing it beyond belief every single little issue and they're harassing the ref for VAR checks Scrap it all
Two main points ignored by this simplistic analysis: Emery has the intelligence to exploit any system, and the offside rule is changing next season. FFS, improve drastically or get rid.
Bar is no good but it can work out if they get it right like rugby cricket put people in X footballers or ex referees it will work but why is he is now Tom Dick and Harry doing Var so if they get professional people in to do it, it will work out like they do in cricket and rugby. The wall ex-players referees.

The linos can’t even blow up for the most obvious 5 yarders, so I completely agree. We need this!!! Linos far too incompetent.

I don’t understand how in 2024 they don’t have the technology to graph out the pitch and know definitively offside or not UTV
