So many fantastic books ! I loved The Hacienda so much ! One of my all time fav ghosty stories and I adored the romance. Our Share of Night was excellent to read along with and I still think about it. It might have been my fav book of last year the more I think about it.
I love haunted house movies, and after enjoying My Heart is a Chainsaw maybe this is the next style of horror I need to try. And now I have a lot of things to try when the mood strikes!
Really enjoyed your presentation style. I’ve read haunted house novels for decades. My recommendations are older books: The Uninvited (1942) by Irish author Dorothy Macardle, House of Many Shadows (early 1970s) by Barbara Michaels and The People from the Sea (later 1970s) by Velda Johnston. None of these books are horror. They are mysteries, where clues are provided in the form of a haunting; all three books have a great sense of time and place, great characters, and timeless writing. Happy reading to all.
I recently read my first haunted house book - a house with good bones by T. kingfisher (Samantha was a great character agreed!), and it worked for me way more than I thought, so this comes at the perfect time!!
I don't think I've read a haunted house story yet? Gotta fix that. What Moves the Dead sounds pretty interesting. The Hacienda could be cool, will look into it as well. "Build Your House Around My Body" is a great title, and I'm intrigued by your description, so hmmm. Our Share of Night is one I've been interested in for a while (since I first heard you talk about it, I think), but my best friend didn't really like it, so I'm procrastinating picking it up. So probably not happening this October. Maybe What Moves the Dead happens, though, as it's short and it sounds like a good first T. Kingfisher to me
🏚 loved these recommendations! I haven't read a haunted house book in a while (What Moves the Dead was my last one), and I'm planning on reading The Hacienda this month :)
yesssss I love a good haunted house story! I've got Sleep Tight, Incidents Around the House, and This Cursed House all on my radar for this month. I'm hoping to start the latter this weekend 😍
@LiteratureScienceAlliance I have a few! Most recently I read We Used to Live Here and that was great. I also really liked Just Like Home. And The Haunting of Hill House!
I really wanted to love Just Like Home, and I really did enjoy the flashback chapters, but sadly I was one of those people who ended up not liking it. That ending really did not work for me at all 😬

Ooooh yes, love me some good haunted house stories. Seriously can't wait to read Our Share of Night, idk how I have put it off for so long!
Great recs. I really love House of Leaves. It's a haunted house story but it's told so unconventionally that it has stuck in my mind.
I don’t know if I would ever have the patience for that one but never say never!
@@LiteratureScienceAlliance It's a headache but the best kind :-)

You might like The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Also, thanks for passing on my bird facts. 😅
