MLD Dornier Wal 1926 1942

The Dornier Wal flying boat was in service with the Dutch Fleet Air Arm(MLD) from 1926 till 1942. Mainly operating in the vast archipelago of the former Dutch East Indies, First five aircraft were built in Italy. Another 41 aircraft were built by Aviolanda in Papendrecht in The Netherlands. Registration numbers were D1 to D46. The aircraft were of extreme service to the Marineluchtvaartdienst abroad. My wife's uncle Jan Weber was a first day pilot and carried out the first mail ferry flight between Soerabaya and Sabang in a relay flight with four Dornier Wal flying boats. (1100 miles vv)
