This visual is so stunning, my computer couldn't handle it during the premier 😉 (it crashed - I should really fix that)
Anyway, love the choice in posing (floor time is best time) and the lighting (sunlight struggling to get into a darkened room? be still my symbolism-loving heart). I wasn't sure at first why you'd included the microphone in this one, but then you started whispering to it like a confession and I went 'oh - that's why 😢😢😢' Your body language in this one is so fascinating and (in my opinion) really captures the nuance of your vocal. The slow seated rock feels so fragile and unsure, paired with the breakthroughs of strength in the belts that quickly pull back into uncertainty - it's just mesmerizing. Love the focus on your hand as well (reaching for light? happiness? the 'off' switch on the Corvyx Signature Wind Tunnel? (joking - I love the wind tunnel))
On a more personal note, Lithium has always resonated with me - due to an absolute cocktail of factors that I won't get too into here, I've struggled with depression and isolation and feeling Different But In A Bad Way for a very long time (on top of that, I was 13 when The Open Door came out - ouch). Sadness and loneliness wove themselves into my identity as an artist, to the point that I actively resisted feeling better because I thought that, because I was creating from a place of loneliness, feeling happy would make me less of an artist. This visual combined with your vocal, even moreso than your previous version, captures this feeling so perfectly for me. You made Young Saran feel very seen this morning - so, thank you 💜
By the way, if anyone reading this wall of text feels or has felt that way: it's not true. Our experiences make us who we are, but your pain is not what makes your art beautiful; you do. Your art will not suffer if you choose to try to heal; it will grow and strengthen. Your art deserves your happiness and love, and so do you.
