One short story I do recommend is One Day All This Will Be Yours - Adrain Tchaikovsky.I thought it was absolutely hilarious and light hearted for the most part and it had serious parts where they needed to be.
I saw your comment on another booktuber's video so I at least know it's on your radar, but I highly highly recommend A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. It's by far my favorite sci-fi book of all time, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! (Also I'm reading The Book of the New Sun now, I had it on my TBR forever but your recent video inspired me to start it now lol)
I have the final girls, I think from a previous recommendation. Ghost line sounds good. Tested too. Murderbot novellas are fun. Their internal dialogue about people and socializing is very much inline with mine. Someone who knows me read one and asked, you wrote this, didn’t you? (Tongue-in-cheek of course).
@@TheShadesofOrange Well, I was trying not to add too many. I lasted all day before I gave in. Final Girls I did have already, but have now added The Test, To Be Taught, The Ghost Line and Finna (I've heard you mention Finna a few times and each time I held off). Couldn't find An Unnatural Life at the libraries, otherwise that'd be downloaded too. I need to stay away from my computer just before bed. No willpower at all this time of night.
Great recommendations, love the video! I just subscribed and added The Ghost Line, Vigilance and Finna to my list :). I♥Becky Chambers and Martha Wells
I absolutely loved this video. I definitely want you to recommend more to me, if you want to read some interesting ones I recommend you pick up Nightflyers by George R.R Martin oh and Emergency Skin by N.K. Jemisin! That one I recommend you try the audiobook though because it's such an experience. It's also kind of like a haunted house in space. I definitely added Finna and The Ghost Line to my TBR. Love these scifi videos Rachel!!
Oh thank you for the recs! I loved Emergency Skin but I didn't even think of it for this video. Please let me know what you think of Finna & Ghost Line
"All Systems Red" has been waiting to be read on my Kindle. I think it's making its way up the list for a good weekend read. I never heard of "The Test" before. It's definitely a book I will be looking into. Thank you for all the recommendations.
I added almost all of the books you have mentioned in my TBR! My list is overflowing but these are shorties so I'm pretty excited to get to them. Thank you for the recommendations!
I have been wanting to get to the Test. I picked it up and it sounds SO good, and so many people compare it to Black Mirror and I absolutely love Black Mirror.
Every single one of these sound amazing! I have not read any Mira Grant yet but I really want to. The only one I may be iffy on is Vigilance because with so many shootings happening in real life it may hit too close to home. Might make me too sad! 😭
I love these videos! I'm always looking for scifi books but, sadly, I'm pretty picky about them. I will definitely read most of the novellas you mentioned! :)
I remember you discussing The Ghost Line and I really wanted to read it. I love that idea of a haunted space ship. A lot of these books look great. Is To Be Taught, If Fortunate a stand alone? I think that I need some Becky Chambers in my life right now.
Mira Grant is a profoundly talented author and has great editor(s). Her wordsmithing is always tight and precise. Michael Creighton is clearly an influence on her work (this is a good thing).
I just got a copy of Refraction in the mail for my TBR pile based on your recommendation (but I gotta finish spooky deep sea killer mermaid book first).
I just found this channel. I haven’t read anything you suggested yet accept for a sample of Foe. I enjoyed it so far and put most the books you recommended on my kindle sample list to check out. They better be good or I will never watch a channel again. Lol just kidding. I already subscribed and hit the bell. 😉 Thanks for sharing
Haha so much pressure! And I do the same thing with Kindle Samples! It's saved me from so many books that didn't "click for me". Thanks for subbing. I hope you enjoy my content
Want to try a couple hard core disturbing short stories. I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream - Ellison Spectator Sport - John D McDonald The first one is easy to find the second is damn near impossible to find.
All systems red was good but the next few books in the series are just to repetitive. All though the story line is good there’s is just too much hacking that takes up a lot of a small book, have no impact on the plot and make Murderbot too OP

The haunted ship idea keeps coming over and over again. Such a cool trope :)
Yeah it's such a classic trope, but I don't tire of it
Thank you for these recommendations. Added several to my TBR list.

Ahh yes I definitely want to try it out
I'm here for Murderbot! Great list, Rachel! 🥰🤓😍
Yay thanks!
Ooo, I love space thrillers, so The Ghost Line sounds fantastic!!
Oh yay. I hope you enjoy it
Thank you. I just love the way you speak about each book.
Thank you
Ooh Unnatural Life sounds so up my alley 🥰 I loved All Systems Red and To Be Taught if Fortunate.
Awesome! Hope you like it
Definitely going to check out Finna! I loved Horrorstor so I have a feeling that will give me some similar vibes
Oooh yes I think you will really enjoy Finna then

Haha... yes Murderbot can be rather relatable. Glad to add a few more to your tbr

I read the first Murderbot book yesterday, and is pretty good. I'm going for the entire series
I'm rereading All Systems Red right now
Great recommendations, love the video! I just subscribed and added The Ghost Line, Vigilance and Finna to my list :). I♥Becky Chambers and Martha Wells
Thank you! So glad you found some recommendations

Happy to put some more (short) books on your tbr!
I added almost all of the books you have mentioned in my TBR! My list is overflowing but these are shorties so I'm pretty excited to get to them. Thank you for the recommendations!
Oh wonderful... and yes short books feel a little less overwhelming to add to a tbr
I have been wanting to get to the Test. I picked it up and it sounds SO good, and so many people compare it to Black Mirror and I absolutely love Black Mirror.
Ah yes definitely give it a try if you love Black Mirror
Finna is already on my list and now I'll add The Test, An Unnatural Life and The Ghost Line. 😊
Glad to add to your list

Yeah very understandable with Vigilance... it's good, but a tough read.
Oooh, great video!! A lot of books I haven't heard of! Thanks!
Awesome. I tried to include a few lesser known ones
I love these videos! I'm always looking for scifi books but, sadly, I'm pretty picky about them. I will definitely read most of the novellas you mentioned! :)
I hope some of these novellas work for you! ( I feel like I'm also a picky sci fi reader too despite loving the genre)
I remember you discussing The Ghost Line and I really wanted to read it. I love that idea of a haunted space ship. A lot of these books look great. Is To Be Taught, If Fortunate a stand alone? I think that I need some Becky Chambers in my life right now.
Yes it's a standalone. Her 2021 novella is unrelated. And yes I think I've gushed about the Ghost Line a few times
It was Really Good! Please do another one once you can, I promise I'll read them all! =D
Oh thank you!
murder bot series is awesome you'll love it.
Mira Grant is a profoundly talented author and has great editor(s). Her wordsmithing is always tight and precise. Michael Creighton is clearly an influence on her work (this is a good thing).
Ahh yes I love when she writes under the Mira Grant Penname. And yes I definitely get Michael Crichton vibes in her books
I just got a copy of Refraction in the mail for my TBR pile based on your recommendation (but I gotta finish spooky deep sea killer mermaid book first).
All Systems Red sounds fun!
It is. Although I will admit that I don't love it as much as other Booktubers

@@FIT2BREAD aw you flatter. I'm currently catching up on your videos as I type this
@@FIT2BREAD I was meaning to say that we should find an excuse to get you in a livestream. Really appreciated you tuning in
By coincidence, Peter F. Hamilton & Gareth Powell's Light Chaser novella just came out.
Yes! I recently reviewed it. I'm sure it will make an appearance in a follow up video
@@TheShadesofOrange Oh, on Goodreads.
@@epiphoney and in a previous SFF wrap up video

Never heard of those
@@TheShadesofOrange definitely check them out.

Ooh, put An Unnatural Life on my to read pile. :)
Oh nice! Hope you get an opportunity to read it soon!
This is great!
Sci-fi Novellas are difficult to find, more recs are always good!
Sounds good! I'm currently working on a follow up video
Hey
All systems red was good but the next few books in the series are just to repetitive. All though the story line is good there’s is just too much hacking that takes up a lot of a small book, have no impact on the plot and make Murderbot too OP
Yeah I feel like the character of Murderbot was great but I always found the plot itself a little thin
