Nice video, definitely the best Avelo video I’ve found so far. (And, pitch is the distance that each row is separated, measured by a point on each seat. Eg: cupholder-cupholder, armrest-armreast as a way to measure legroom.)
Tweed New Haven Regional Airport is a lot like Key West Airport in Florida, which also has two separate buildings for arrivals and departures. Though HVN is due to get a new terminal in the near future. Avelo is the only airline indeed, all the others serve Hartford about 50 miles north. But even with just one airline, HVN is busy. The Florida and Carolina flights are packed. They presently serve 14 destinations from New Haven, and is considered now by many to be Connecticut’s home airline. Much like the original PSA was to San Diego. As for good pizza in New Haven…pick any place on any street. The best ones are the little mom and pop restaurants. The city is big and there is alot to do there and within 30 miles surrounding.
Last year in 2022 when I went to fly down to North Carolina from New Haven, there was 135 passengers onboard. This year in 2023, Idk how many passengers there will be today. I'll update this later.
I take flights out of New Haven regularly. They are now going to 25 different destinations and the airport is close to approving a massive expansion. It's been wonderful having them as a affordable option.
Avelo started twice a week fights to and from New Haven to Lakeland Florida on June 13th.That's the first scheduled passenger flights in Lakeland that's between Orlando and Tampa in over a decade.
Theres a lot of airlines that operate out of the international terminals. If its still true, Frontier still flies out of Terminal E in Boston. When I was at O'Hare, Southwest flies out the international terminal. It helps because since international destinations happen more on a certain time of day, the gates are wide open for other airlines to use.
Frontier, Allegiant, Sun Country, and Hawaiian all use terminal E at Logan. Most airports assign gates in the domestic terminals to specific airlines for exclusive use, so airlines pay for the gate even when they're not using it, but use a shared gate model in the international terminal where you only pay for a gate while using it to accommodate the international carriers that only have one or two flights a day. So domestic carriers that only have one or two flights a day may find the international terminal a cheaper option.
Thanks for posting: it's interesting to see a US low-cost airline in action, and spot some of the differences from European equivalents. For example: Ryanair and others don't have reclining seats, or any sort of free on-board food or drink. However they do still have free use of the carry-on bag lockers, as long the bag is below a specified size. Another contrast: at a European airport, I wouldn't expect to have a long row of signs outside, to indicate the airline check-in desks; instead there are typically signs inside, listing all the airlines with the desk numbers that each is using.
I have sone pictures from when American used to fly there. They had to expand the terminal. The old bag claim area was in the rear of the terminal and was just an open chute. When they expanded (they didn’t have enough from for check in to accommodate the 737s, so check in is in the trailer and you bring your bag inside to drop off at TSA) they actually brought the old baggage belt from check in and made it the new baggage claim belt!
I think the reason that Avelo and Sun Country are at the international side is due to their infrequent flights and as such don't want to or need to have a single consistent check-in desk like international carriers who have 1 flight a day so as such just turn on the screens come check in time handle their business and leave.
can someone tell me if they are still i business.. i tried to log into their site from Munich for last 3 weeks to book a flight for vegas to sonoma and the site stopped workig. It would not allow me to login. it gives me a error page. I did not think they would last this long, but i really liked the airline
at 6:04 you were flying by me in North Haven. I see these planes come in everyday. Ever once in awhile, one will be off the flight pattern coming in and buzz my house on top of the mountain. at 6:05 you can see the knights of Columbus building in New Haven
Hi I am planning to take this airline from Fort Lauderdale to Raleigh. How would you rate this airline from one to ten? Did they lose your luggage. How was the customer service
I did not lose my luggage. Customer service was great but the web site was not. Honestly pretty average experience overall, nicer than Spirit or Frontier!
They are very much like Canada's Flair (also a former charter turned ULCC flying non-competitive routes i.e. Edmonton-Burbank) and I wish them the best. As much as airlines are polluting everyone regardless of economic status should have the opportunity to fly!
@@ClassyWhale Interesting consideration, though I think Avelo is concentrating on organically growing their operations at this point rather than buying out another carrier. Sun Country has survived well flying contract cargo, under the radar seasonal routes, and aircraft lease outs…making steady profits along the way. The route system would bridge the opening, but at this point does Avelo really need to do so? And does Sun Country want to put themselves on the radar by making themselves bigger? If anything, the JetBlue/Spirit merger will help these smaller carriers expand on their own as they can operate with lower costs. BUT…Avelo appears to have plans to grow to at least 55 aircraft by the end of next year. That could put them on the radar to be bought by a bigger carrier looking for an east coast north/south system. The New Haven hub is a gold mine…it’s own market plus ability to poach NYC…not to mention a new terminal coming. If anybody were to grab Avelo, it would be Alaska Airlines…they would get presence in the east coast, eliminate competition on the west coast, and connect the east coast routes easily to their own network. That and a common fleet of 737’s.
after the second time you said "Avelo" I was like "Mispronunciation running gag?" (which I enjoyed) and now I just wonder how the New Haven pizza joint footage got deleted in the process. But also, this inspired me to maybe take all of Avelo's routes...eventually. Jobs kinda make it hard!
@@AviationWithEli Actually there are a LOT of snow birds that have moved down from that area to the upstate of SC, and they often go back to visit their relatives, and the business aspect of things, since Wilmington DE is where a lot of banks are and that is where they incorporate out of.
What makes this airline special is that the only way I could check in and get a boarding pass online for my flight is by purchasing a seat. I complained at the podium and I was told that they won’t credit my money back. What a ripoff.
At 04:00, you had the same flight attendant I had when I recently flew Avelo HVN-MYR. Friendly enough, but the XJ FAs don't have to work too hard with in-flight service, that's for sure. Didn't see them at all after the safety briefing until we were on final approach and they were checking seats/seatbelts in the cabin. BTW, I think it is pronounced "Av-VELL-oh", with vell rhyming with bell. At least, that's how the Avelo staff said it for my flight.
as a Connecticut local yes for some reason New Haven burns the crust. idk. Mystic Pizza(yes like the movie) is the best pizza you will find in this state hands down. also thank for the tips ive never heard of this before and me and my Fiancée are heading to Florida this February so this seems like our best option.
Was it necessary to pronounce "Avelo" three different ways? You could have opened one of their videos and found out how to say it instead of acting all confused about it.
I won't stand for this New Haven pizza slander! The burnt crust is sublime!
Outrageous lies! He wouldn't know a pizza from a frisbee!

I miss stubby 737s, they're the true and pure essence of the Boeing's intention for the model. The more they stretch they just seem like baby 767s.
I like this airline, it looks nice, comfortable, very cool!

1:52, oh yeah Minnesota is secretly the 11th Canadian province. (shh don't tell anyone). In other news it appears California got returned to Mexico??
The airline code for New Haven is HVN not NHV. NHV is the train station.

What size of backpack you need as a personal item?
I don't know off the top of my head, but it's on the web site!
3:49 Pitch is the distance between the rows, bruh, the legroom. 😓 That’s very important to know when doing trip reports.
Other than that, good video.
What makes Avelo special? 4 wheelin' baby!!
Ive always wanted to see the cities that we fly over but can never get a signal. What carrier do you have that you can get the GPS signal in air.
Verizon
do you have to pay for carry ons?
Yes

I hope you took the bus to East Haven and went to the Shoreline Trolley museum.
I did this last year!

Maybe they take over a former hub, like Memphis, to connect the two halves?
I think they'll merge with Sun Country and make MSP their third hub

Be nice to see Avelo start up a GSP - ILG route!
Probably unlikely due to the lack of demand between the two. Maybe we could see GSP-MCO,TPA,FLL,SRQ, RSW, RDU, HVN…
