Unfortunately, yes you can smell the gas. It is advised to ventilate the rooms regularly in the product manual as well.

Hey! According to the label on the gas heater it works with G30, G31 and their mixtures. Thus butane, propane and their mixtures. As I understand LPG is a mixture of these gases so should work.

Always remember that flames use oxygen to work. And give off gasses that can kill.
